Facet Jewelry Stringing August 2018 Box

Facet Jewelry Box is a new subscription box from the editors at Facet Jewelry and Bead & Button magazine. They offer two versions: the “Quick and Easy Stringing” box and the “Bead Stitching” box, so you can choose a subscription based on your skill level and interests, as well as the amount of time you want to invest in the projects.

Facet Jewelry Box Quick and Easy Stringing August 2018 Review

This is still a fairly new subscription so I really didn’t know what was in store:

The first thing you see when you open the box is this full-color booklet. I haven’t shown you all of the pages inside because part of the subscription fee is for the projects that are included.

This is a really nice booklet, honestly, but I’d expect nothing less from the folks at Bead & Button (I’ve been a subscriber for a while now). There are also links to online resources if you need a little help with a technique.

This month, we had to make a lot of plain loops. This is a nice change of pace from the very large number of wrapped loops from past months. Actually, the loop that connects to the earring finding here was supposed to be wrapped, but my first attempt looked awful (I think I do better wrapping with thinner/softer wires) so I cut it off and made a plain loop.

More importantly, these were simple to make and I finished quickly, but I still think they look nice. You may see something along similar lines in future reviews from other bead boxes.

More loops! Actually, I did this project first because it looked like it would take longer. This was also really easy and I think it turned out nice, and you will probably also see something similar to this in reviews of future bead boxes because it really wasn’t a lot of effort but I thought the results were good. I was a little worried that the chain was too fine for the headpins, but when I went to work on this, I didn’t actually have any problems. (It might have saved a bit of time/effort if shorter headpins had been provided, as I had to cut every single one of them.)

Materials that were useful this month: round nose pliers and wire cutters. A second pair of pliers for opening and closing jump rings and/or holding the project at various points of time was also useful; I used a pair of bent chain-nose pliers for that out of habit, but several styles would work.

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for Facet Jewelry Box. I feel like the projects definitely fit the “quick and easy” description. I thought the instructional booklet was excellent (and well-edited; I didn’t notice any errors). I like the overall finished look of both projects, as well.

I was not frustrated by either project this month; actually, the instructions were very simple and clear for both. I think that, in general, the people who will enjoy this version of the box the most are (1) people new to beading or (2) people who like to bead but don’t have a ton of time.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You will receive the September box. Boxes go out after the 20th and people who sign up before the 15th will get that month’s box. If you sign up after the 15th, you may still be able to get that month’s box but this is not guaranteed.

LIMITED TIME DEAL: Use code SAVE50 for 50% off your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.95 per box, you are paying about $12.48 per project.
