Enchanted Crystal: Crystal of the Month September 2018 Review

First, you'll see a greeting from Adam of Enchanted Crystal.

Next, there's an info sheet all about the featured Crystal of the Month: Namibian Black Tourmaline.

Namibian Black Tourmaline

Look at this gorgeous specimen! I love how dark and ominous this crystal comes across with its sturdy girth and rising top. It looks like a fierce mountain in a fantasy movie. It actually reminds me a lot of Devil's Tower (as made famous in Close Encounters). Let me tell you, I saw that national treasure up close and it is truly awesome. Back to the Black Tourmaline though- the info sheet tells me that this makes up 95% of the world tourmaline which makes it the most common. This one hails from Nambia which produces more unique specimens though. The cool thing is that it has the ability to produce a small temporary voltage when heated or cooled due to its pyroelectricity properties and also has a naturally occurring electric field around it. How can you act like that isn't special and magical? I will keep this baby close to harness its obvious powers.

On to the bonus mini crystals!

Jade

How beautiful is this green color? Isn't it wild to think that this is just naturally occurring in the world? The gem room at the Carnegie Museum of Natural history is a favorite place of many Pittsburghers I know and it always blows my mind to see the array of colors that are created in nature. I love looking at the small details in this stone that makes it look like marble.

Red Adventurine

Another beautiful color on the opposite side of the color wheel is this really milky reddish tan colored Adventurine. So soothing especially when polished, this also feels really nice in my hand and I can see it being used as a meditation stone. Metaphysically speaking, this should help with emotional healing and will help you be productive.

Black Kyanite

Not totally unlike the featured crystal of the month, these black kyanite shards are also splintered and look like medieval tools or weapons. Very Game of Thrones vibes here for me. This crystal can heal any chakras that need it and it can be used for grounding and meditation. Very cool looking, indeed.

Verdict: Enchanted Crystal chose some dark and beautiful crystals this month as well as some soothing and colorful ones for a good balance. It was really cool to learn about the unreal natural properties of Black Tourmaline and I love the feeling I get when I gaze upon it.

I never get the same things you do and really would like this black tourmaline…sigh…I subbed for six months and am not sure if I will renew since I keep getting repeats in my “bonus” crystal bag. I like it, but I can find a lot of these same items on etsy at a similar price point and at mineral/rock/gem shows much cheaper.

I really like this box and subscribed to the Crystal Variety Box. I got my first box this month and loved it. Any chance MSA can do a one time review of the Crystal Variety Box?

How big are these crystals?

Hey Gretchen-

The Black Tourmaline is about an inch and a half tall and the Jade and Red Adventurine are smaller, about an inch across. The Black Kynalite are small shards an various sizes not longer than an inch. The main crystal each month varies in size quite a lot. Feel free to check out my past reviews to get an idea.

I always enjoy reading your reviews of this subscription and the various characteristics/properties of the crystals. I just might have to subscribe, as this would be a fun sub to share with my 6 year old son who enjoys collecting rocks, fossils and crystals. Thank you for the great review!

I was thinking the same thing, this box would be great for kids, my daughter loves collecting rocks.

Might be a wrong place to ask but are the crystals collected ethically?

Hi Ks- that is a really great question but unfortunately I don’t know the answer. It looks like Adam from Enchanted Crystal gets these at various crystal shows so it would just depend on where they all come from. You may want to reach out to him to get a better idea on how they’re sourced in general! Thanks for bringing it up!
