Cricket Crate September 2018 Review

Cricket Crate September 2018 - magazine Cricket Crate September 2018 - magazine 2 Cricket Crate September 2018 - magazine 3

Each month you will receive a Wonder magazine. This goes over what the main theme of the month is and how that ties back to the project. This month is all about teaching empathy and learning about "Doctor Visits". There are sections that go over understanding others and how to focus on feelings.

Next, I received this little information card that goes over everything in the box and how each activity works.

Pretend Checkup Board

This little checkup board is incredible! It is very sturdy with thick construction paper and little pieces of wood in areas that also slide. The front is a doctor checklist that your little one can use while they play doctor with their new doctor bag set. I think this is also helpful to go over with your child everything that will happen when they visit the doctor. My son's 2 and a half year checkup is coming up in the next two weeks, one that I am dreading now that he understands so much more, but this really helped us have a full conversation about what will happen at that visit. The top portion also brings in feelings and understanding empathy, this has been so much fun to go over with my son who is very aware of emotions. The back of the board goes over body parts as well.

Medical Kit

To continue with the "doctor visit" theme, we have this amazing medical kit. Each of the parts of the bag is made from wood and have some beautiful details. The felt bag also comes with stickers that your little one can use to decorate their bag. How cute are the band-aides?! They have velcro on the bottom so you can put them on. My son loved putting these around his superheroes arms. This is the perfect kit that you can bring with you or use for pretend play at home! Plus, it is a great way to introduce your little one to the tools that they might see when they visit the doctor.

Olive To The Rescue - Listed Value $6.95

This month's theme continues through with the board book! Olive shows us empathy by helping her friends when they are in need. It is so important to show your little one why it is important to help their friends, but most importantly, to help them understand how we can know when to help our friends.

Verdict: I loved this month's Cricket Crate because it came at the perfect time with our 2 and a half year doctor checkup fast approaching! I will say that this month did feel a bit light compared to previous months, but the items that we did receive were beautifully crafted. My son has already used the doctor bag and board so much with his superheroes or stuffed animals. While this box can be tricky to put a value on, it really is subjective to what works for your little one, I always find the boxes to be perfectly curated for my son. Plus, at $19.95, I am getting two activities that are already planned for me, a book, and a monthly magazine that I usually end up keeping to read through again for new and fun ideas!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As of publication, the September box is still available. From KiwiCo:

Crates are assigned each month based on availability and your crate history - not all subscribers receive the same theme each month.

Their newborn pack (three boxes!) is still on sale for $24.95 so I will probably be ordering another one of those for my baby on the way. I got one as a baby shower gift already – it’s a great deal at the discount price (blanket, a number of toys that can be put together as a mobile as well, a large baby tummy time mirror, three books, and Cricket plush.)

Last time my sister’s kids were over I got out one of their monthly boxes – the body themed one, and they had a lot of fun ‘sewing’ up organs, playing with the giant body map, making a stethoscope, etc. While I don’t really need a long-term monthly sub like this, having a few boxes on hand for special activities is really nice. My daughter loves the Cricket books and I have another box to give her on her birthday (she was a bit too young for the cooking box when it came when she was just over two, but now she is into play cooking so I think she will have a blast with it.)
