Coastal Co. Fall 2018 Review
When you first go to sign up for Coastal Co., you'll be met with a short survey to let them know your sizing and physical features so they can send the perfect items for you. They also take your location/climate into account when selecting items.
Complexion, face shape, top size, bra (cup) size, waist size, ring size, and shoe size will all go into your profile.
When you receive your box you'll see an info card right on top that has a lovely beachy photo on one side and a short intro with the items and their prices on the other side.
Pirette Fragrance Sample
A free sample of this beachy fragrance kicks off the Fall box. The card describes it as fresh green coconut, surf wax, and sunscreen. I have to say that I like it quite a bit and it totally reminds me of being near the ocean. The coconut really stands out.
Nixon Facet Watch in Silver - Retail Value $200.00
The big-ticket item in this box is this super nice watch from Nixon. Every subscriber received this beautifully well-made stunner and I have to say it's one of the nicest watches I now own. It must get its name from the glass faceted face of the watch that creates a really classy look that actually reminds me of a mirror I've wanted for several years with a similar cut. It has a really nice weight to it which makes sense seeing as though it's made completely of stainless steel with a linked band that can be adjusted to fit. It comes with a little pouch housing extra links but you can, of course, get some taken out (like I'll have to do as you can tell from the photo above). The face doesn't have any numbers, but rather just silver bars that denote the time with minute dots all along the outside edge. I'm surprised to receive such a classy, nice watch worth so much from a beach-themed subscription box, but I'm not disappointed at all.
S'well Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle, 17 oz. - Retail Value $35.00 (similar linked)
The next item is familiar to me since I've seen S'well water bottles all over. They've included the medium 17-ounce size which is really roomy and holds a lot of any liquid you desire, hot or cold. The first thing that comes to mind is for water on a hot summer day and this bad boy will keep it cold for a whole 24 hours. Wild, right? Now that days are getting colder here in PA, this can also house some hot cocoa or coffee for a camping trip and keep it piping hot for 12 hours. Super impressive. The bottle itself is solid white except for a delicate palm tree design on front in grey with the S'well logo at the bottom. The bottle is handwash only though, so keep it clear of the dishwasher. This fits comfortably in a car cup holder so it's perfect for road trips.
Richard Podgurski Jr Print - Listed Retail Value $25.00
What's a Coastal Co. box without a nod to the beach? This print is from photographer Richard Podgurski Jr and has a really pretty sunny beach scene from a bird's eye view. Crystal clear blue water is to the left, a sandy beach in the center, and some green trees peek out of the bottom right corner. It comes in a white mat that you can leave as is, or pop it in a frame for more polished wall art. With winter coming, this would make a nice addition to a grim dark office at 5 pm.
Lira Clothing Twin Palms Thermal - Listed Retail Value $45.00
One of the cool things about this subscription is that even though it's beach-vibes forward if you live in a colder climate (like Pittsburgh), they'll cater the apparel to your location for the season. Since this is their Fall box, they've included a super soft navy thermal shirt from Lira Clothing. Tops can be a tough fit for me since the size completely depends on the style of the shirt. This medium is a bit on the tight side for me, but it will make a great layering piece or I can wear this to bed once my house becomes freezing at night. It's more lightweight so it's not too thick that it will have me sweating. There's a small embroidered double palm tree detail on the chest in white that lends a little flair.
Formulary Bath Fizzy Sparkling Bath Tablet in Sea Salt & Lavender - Retail Value $6.00
I thought this was soap at first but upon further inspection saw that it was a "bath fizzy". I am a huge fan of anything I can soak in the tub with and this sea salt & lavender scent is just the ticket on a crisp Fall evening. Although a little crumbly, this cube of fizziness is 2-inches squared and will surely fill my whole second floor with wonderful smelling aromas. I also really love the packaging which makes it feel like a luxury item purchased in a boutique.
Knotty Tropical Lapel Pin - Retail value $9.00
The last piece this season is a cute little enamel pin of a green palm leaf. It certainly fits the palm tree theme that ran throughout the box and just like the palm trees on the thermal will add a bit a flair to a jean jacket.
Verdict: I didn't love this season's Coastal Co. box as much as the first, but the value is certainly great for totaling $320.00 retail for the $103.95 cost. I appreciate the change in the items received due to the season and think the watch is a super wonderful item. I'll get the most use out of the water bottle and bath fizzy while the thermal will probably come in handy to wear under a short sleeve shirt in cooler weather. Interested to see what the Winter box will have in store!
