We have a new spoiler for the September 2018 California Found box!

The September 2018 box includes:

Crunchy Beauty The Underarm Clay Mask and Liquid Deodorant

Each box will contain Crunchy Beauty's The Underarm Clay Mask (MSRP $15.00). This unique mask is designed to be blended with apple cider vinegar and is formulated to help thoroughly cleanse the underarm area so that anyone can start using natural deodorant effectively. September subscribers will also receive Crunchy Beauty’s Liquid Deodorant in their signature Geranium/Lemongrass scent (MSRP $15.00). Unique in that it is baking soda free, has a magnesium base, and uses organic essential oils, the deodorant will not stain your clothes or clog your pores - and it smells like nature, not like chemicals.

In case you missed the previous spoilers:

K. Leone Designs  "LYNZIE" necklace in Pearl/Silver

Every September California Found collection includes the K. Leone Designs  "LYNZIE" necklace in Pearl/Silver (shown),  Lapis/Silver or Black Spinel/Silver (MSRP $40.00). So sweet and dainty on its own and lovely to layer, this piece is the perfect gift, but we bet you'll want to keep it for yourself!  Kristine Leone produces each gorgeous piece individually in her Los Angeles studio. Yours will be one of a kind, made with love and the utmost attention to craftsmanship.

Every September California Found box includes a "I Need Vitamin Sea" or "Sunshine and Saltwater" custom "surf shack" style wall hanging from The Salty Life Co. We love this as an endless summer reminder for your office, kid's room, dorm room, family room or bath. Each piece is hand selected, cut, sanded, stained and hand-painted, thus no two are exactly alike and there may be wood grain variations and knots in your piece! So surfy and cool! Approximately 5.5" x 5.5", Grey wood stain with white, yellow and turquoise paint. (MSRP $18.00)

I really loved everything in this box! I thought the sterling and pearl necklace was lovely and dainty. Not too small for me! The hand painted sign was adorable and went into my bathroom immediately! The reusable makeup/toner rounds were innovative and a way to be more conscious regarding the items I use on a daily basis. I thought the “Shrub Syrup” will be fun to use in cocktails and drinks, especially during the holidays. And, personally, I love the deodorant and underarm mask. I only use natural deodorant so I can always use more. The addition of the mask is, honestly, nothing I have ever had but I understand why it is useful especially since so many people need to detox from aluminum based products. I believe the box is thoughtfully curated, high quality and the items are unique and from independent California based creators. Not the same recycled things you see in almost all the the subs out there. Also this is focused on “California” for the folks who mentioned “crunchy” well Cali is kinda crunchy (I live here so I know!)! I signed up because I want to get items that are meaningful to my way of life. Which is eco conscious and natural. Hence I really love this box.

I cancelled my subscription because of this box. The overall style of the wall hanging, (design, colors, clash between the paint colors and the wood color) seems like a tacky decoration you would see at a tanning salon. The inclusion of the deodorant and mask mystify me. Who thinks that underarm products are a charming or classy item to include in a box? Useful, maybe. Fun in a box? No way! This is especially disappointing to me because I am local, and I think of all the wonderful artisan products that can be found in the area and reflect the awesome personalities of the various neighborhoods we frequent… Venice, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Pasadena, Ojai… and then I think… deodorant?!? Really??? I was considering sending boxes as gifts to east coast and midwest relatives this holiday season, and now I know *no way*. Can you imagine unwittingly sending someone a clay underarm mask? Cringeworthy.

I received my box today, and it was even worse than expected. Literally everything except the necklace went into the trash can, and the necklace was saved only for my six year old, as it is tiny. Depressing to know that I paid $50 to add to a landfill. I have gotten many subscription boxes across the past several years and have never felt this way about an entire box. Shameful.

I personally loved the box. I”m a full grown woman and the necklace fit me just fine. I wore it tonight. I loved the underarm set as it is useful and reflects California’s eco, natural and conscious vibe. I thought the little wall art (I got the vitamin sea one) was really cute and obviously hand done. It was in no way what you would see in a “tanning salon”. I think that is a mean spirited comment as most of what you are describing is cheap TJ Maxx/Ross/Target level quality. The washable cotton rounds and the “shrub syrup” were both useful to me. I like this box a lot as it is a mix of useful and beautiful things that are a surprise and a delight. And it is all done by independent individuals. I like to shop small. But I guess if you like cheap, mass produced crap this box won’t be for you.

Overall I like this box but I’m sure I won’t use the underarm mask and natural deodorant. The wood things are not my style either. I think it’s hard to put decorative items in a box because everyone has such different tastes/style.

This is why box companies shouldn’t comment on posts lol

I signed up for this box because of the necklace and expected that it would include some duds… and it looks like I was right.. i’ll be giving away the hippy dippy deodorant and the wood wall hangings..

Hi Delia!
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll admit ‘duds’ was a winceable moment for me, but I understand not every item is perfect for everybody… and “hippy dippy” made me grin, a) because, well, it’s a funny phrase, and b) because Miriam Mabrey, the Maker behind Crunchy Beauty could not be further from ‘hippy dippy’. She’s a former science teacher who took that knowledge and applied it to ingredients that result in effective face and body products that don’t include the bad stuff. Hopefully, you love the K. Leone Designs necklace – it’s even lovelier in person – and the additional items we haven’t spoiled yet will hit the mark for you too. Ideas for makers you’d like to see in future boxes? We’re all ears!
