Busy Bee Stationery is a monthly subscription box that offers stationery items that are themed. This month, I did not receive the card insert that introduced the August theme, however, it reminds me of last months theme, Succulent Love.

Busy Bee Stationery September 2018 Review

My initial thought when I opened this box was that it was cute and definitely seemed to fit into the theme. Let's take a look at the magical, galactic items we got.

busy bee information card

I was really happy that I got a card in my box this month introducing the theme but disappointment hit once more when I tried to access the blog. It was down, still. It was also down in July. I am not sure when it went offline but hope they get it going again! And if not, then they should remove it from the card since its an invitation of sorts.

busy bee notebook

Kawaii Unicorn Notebook by Tokidoki – Estimated Value - $10.00 (Similar item found here)

The first item in this month’s box is this notebook with different, bright, designed unicorns all over it. It measures at 9 inches high by 6 inches wide.

It has 95 lined pages and features a little unicorn illustration in the corners of all the pages.

busy bee stickers

Emoti Sticker Store Sticker Book – Retail Value $12.70

The next item I received was this super emoji-filled sticker and postcard book.

This book is filled with every emoji imaginable and more. Hearts, stars, unicorns, food, cats, dogs, lips – I mean everything you can think of!

busy bee cards

It also contains 12 pages of postcards with 2 per page.

The postcards are perforated and easy to remove from the notebook (I suggest removing the entire page first before removing the card). There were several different designs for the postcards: thank you cards, Happy Birthday cards and – you guessed it---plenty of emoji cards.

busy bee markers

Galaxy Markers – Retail Value $13.67

The next item in my box was definitely my favorite. I got a set of 5 in green, red, white, blue and pink.

busy bee markers

I decided to try them out on brown cardboard, mainly because I was out of black construction paper. As soon as I wrote with them, I fell in love. They wrote like markers but looked like paint pens. While I love them all, my favorites were blue because it was so pretty and electric, as was the white on the cardboard. I was a little disappointed that the pink wasn’t brighter, but on a black canvas, it just might be. These markers are definitely out of this world!

Pink with Silver Stars Pen – Retail Value Unavailable

While I was super impressed with my cool markers, I was super disappointed with this next item. This .05 mm black ballpoint pen reminds me of one that you can grab by the cash register at Claire’s. It feels really small in comparison to other pens and is really light in weight.

While I was unimpressed with the way the pen felt, it wrote pretty smooth and easy. I guess its cute with the notebook.

Galaxy Correction Tape – Retail Value $1.77 (found on sale here for $1.49)

The fourth item in Busy Bee’s September box was this set of white out tapes. These things are itty bitty, measuring at 5.5 cm by 2.3 cm.

Each package has 4 and each one has a different galaxy color and design. Now, I normally love correction tape because I primarily use pens and occasionally make mistakes, so I was excited to get these…until I used them:

When I used it, it was yellow tinged instead of white!

Here it is close up; you can see that it the bottom one is like a burnt yellow. I thought maybe it was just the one, but then I tested the others:

And they all had a bit of discoloration. I wouldn’t use this for a document for work but I am sure the kids will find some use for them.

Glitter Washi Tape Set of 10 – Retail Value $10.50 (found on sale here for $8.40)

The fifth and final item in my box was this super assortment of washi tape – in 10 different colors!

The colors are all very pretty and very shimmery. They didn’t stick very well at the ends but did stick better when rubbed down. When I did this though, my finger tips did turn colors, like red or blue. Either way, it was a pretty cool inclusion in my box.

Verdict: While I liked this box, I really felt it was geared for a tweenager or younger. My oldest daughter, who is 8, loved this box and was genuinely excited for all the items. Now, I am almost 30, and the only item that really appealed to me were the markers. I really feel like Busy Bee was geared at the 20+ crowd, so that did disappoint me.  All the items totaled $44.55, so this box did exceed its purchase value, which is great!

I ordered 50 rolls of that same washi tape on Amazon for $10.49 and it isn’t great. The Dollar Tree washi is better by far. This all seems adorable but past the 4 gel pens (not counting the pink), it seems too high priced.
