September 2018 Boyxcharm Beauty Tutorial

This month’s Boxycharm "Wildflower" theme is the cutest ever! A wildflower can be something like a free spirit, bravely growing wild and free. So let's not be afraid to step outside the box this month. Get out, do something new and different. Now that we've revealed our theme let's get started.

Here are the contents of this months box:

As always I start off with a fresh and clean face. I always use a moisturizer before adding any makeup to my face.

This pretty cage shaped Palette gives us 12 beautiful shades with a mixture of matte, shimmer and pearl finishes. These colors are really versatile, making it pretty easy to go from a day to night time look. I can not wait to jump right into this eye look so we can see how well they blend. I wanted to do a natural look with a bit of shimmer. Something that can be worn day or night.

I will also be using The Ojitos Brush Trio by Alamar Cosmetics. Ojito is Spanish for "eye.". I love how this brand digs deep into its roots. These brushes are made with 100% synthetic fibers and are extremely soft. This gorgeous lime green/burnt orange set includes a flat painter brush, a fluffy blender brush, and one flat tight liner brush. All the tools we need for an everyday eyeshadow look, so let's jump in.

Using the Ojitos Brush Trio by Alamar Cosmetics, I started with the flat brush and chose Hide and Seek for my transition shade. Immediately I notice how pigmented and creamy these shadows are so I recommend using a light hand when using this palette.

Here is how the transition shade looks alone. When choosing my transition shade, I choose a shade that is close to my own skin tone and run it back and forth onto my crease. A transition shade is usually Matte and helps to merge colors together. It also helps to give some depth to your eyeshadow look.

Since there are several deep earth-toned shadows I found it a bit challenging to find a pop of color. So for my crease shade, I used the fluffy blender brush to swipe the color Silver Spoon. It's a  pretty pale blue/silver tone. I used windshield wiper motions directly into my crease. This motion helps to pack the color deep into your crease while blending it out as well.

Here are those two shades together.

Next, I reached for the shade Clutch and put this directly into the center of my eye using my finger. By using my finger I can pinpoint exactly where I want this shade to stand out.

Here is how it looks with the center color. As you can see here, some of the colors have more fallout than others.

After cleaning my fluffy brush I used it to soften and blend out any harsh lines and edges.

I continued with the same brush and added the color All Nighter onto both my outer corners in short circular motions.

After cleaning up my fallout and as you can see there was quite a bit, I filled in my brows and went in for my final color in this pallet. Using our third brush in the trio, I used the shade Pillow Fight to highlight under my brow bone. I used the tip of the flat tight liner brush to do this.  All in all the shades blended seamlessly and the brushes were very soft and easy to hold. I can definitely see myself reaching for this pallet for my everyday makeup looks.

Here is a head-on face picture of all the colors together.

To really complete the eye look, let's pull out the next product. This Stroke of Wow Roll On Liner is from Butter London and it's unlike anything I've ever seen in an eyeliner product. What makes it unique is its wheel applicator. This helps deliver an ultra-precise line in one stroke. Now I must admit that I'm not the best when it comes to being precise at well..... anything. (LOL) However, I think this will help me keep control. I wanted to try a tight line along my lash line, just to give my eyes a more sultry look. I found it very lightweight and pretty easy to control without using too much pressure. The color is a very intense black and dries down almost instantly! The only issue I had was getting the product inside my eye due to its runny fluid. So please be very careful when using this product on your lower lash line. Other than that, it's pretty comfortable to wear and easy to use.

Here is how it looks. As I said, it dries down really quickly and you don't need much to get the job done.

After applying my foundation and setting powder I reached for our next product. This month we have the Laura Geller New York Baked Blush-n-Brighten. This is a marble swirl blush that's supposed to give you a gorgeous flush no matter the season. I received the color Tropic Hues. This long-wearing formula is Paraben-free and has many antioxidants along with White Tea Extracts. I don't wear blush too often but I'm always willing to give something new a try. I used a blush brush for this product and surprisingly, I like the way it looks. It gives me a nice hue to the cheeks without standing out too much. I also decided to take advantage of its awesome marbled pattern, and used a smaller brush to dip into the lighter swirls of the blush and used that as my highlighter! I added it to the tip of my nose and the highs of my cheekbones. Can you see it?

My final product is from Lorac Cosmetics. Surprisingly, I don't own much from this makeup line but I'm very familiar with its name. This is their Pro Matte Lip Color and it's said to have a very smooth texture with colors that are high in pigment. It's supposed to be lightweight, creamy and long-lasting. There are over eight shades between nudes and vibrant colors all with a comfortable matte finish. I love a good bold matte lip and how it compliments my makeup. I received the shade Orchid which is a deep purple vibrant hue. First I love how soft and weightless this feels on my lips! I'm sure it's due to the Acai Berry, Pomegranate and Grape Seed Extract it's infused with. I usually need a lip liner with most of my lip products, but this one looks great without it. It's also very buildable, just in case you only want a hint of color. I decided to layer on a few coats because this color is so stunning and I want to show it off. I  really think this color helps complete my makeup look, what do you think?

Verdict: I really enjoyed using everything in this month's box, but my absolute favorite was the lip product! I just love the element of surprise you get with Boxycharm. They are great at sending both unique and practical items. I hope you enjoyed this month's makeup tutorial and remember to be a wildflower!

I am addicted to subscription boxes for so many reasons. For one I simply love the element of surprise that each month brings, whether its beauty, skin care or anything else. I love the opportunity of trying out new products every month without having to commit to the full purchase. My favorite boxes are Boxycharm, Popsugar, and any Mommy and baby boxes. I am a brand new mother and I love trying out new things for my baby and I love how they always have something special for mommy!

I loved your tutorial! I received all of the same products with the exception of the lipstick, I received the Hank & Henry matte liquid lipstick in Petal Pusher (a great rose color). I can’t wait to try out my products and will be following your exact eye look – I never know how to use the right brushes & what colors in the palettes go well together, and you did such a fantastic job! Thank you!

Does any know if the waitress is lifted for this month? Really want those brushes

I received the butter London glaze liquid eyeliner, Laura Gellar blush, and hank and Henry lippie for my variations. The hank and Henry is a pretty color but bleeds like crazy no matter how little product I use. The eyeliner is fantastic though!

Dezi

Bleeds like crazy huh? That’s not good. Glad you like the eyeliner. I was curious about that one.

Been meaning to say this for a while, but Revlon came out with liquid eyeliners with this kind of applicator last year, I have the raisin and teal ones at home.

Great look, I love that lip color! I also noticed a bit of fallout, but nothing major.

Thanks for the tutorial and tips. You look great. I received the same box except with the Magenta shade which I haven’t tried yet. Your shade looks awesome on you!

Dezi

Thank you and it’s probably one of the most comfortable lip products I’ve tried. I really like it, I’m always getting stuck with nude shades for some reason lol

This is a beautiful look for you! You definitely should continue to wear blush. It wears very well on you!

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

You think so? Ive never had good experience with blush so I guess thats why I always shy away from it. But thanks.

Jodi

While I don’t subscribe to boxy right now, I love your tutorial and reviews. The makeup looks great on you 💕

I just got my box! It’s pretty much the same except my Lorac matte is in ‘Violet’ – which is a very bright light purple. I love purples but this one is just too bright for me, I’ll probably gift it. But I finally got a Nightingale palette of my own, and I love it! I’m not sure I will use the three darkest shades much, but the ones I played with were very easy to apply and blend and the overall look was flattering. I was even able to use a matte brown as a brow fill.

The brushes were pretty nice too, and I like the color of the blush.

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

That’s a good idea, use it as a brow fill.

Great tutorial! That lip color looks great on you.

denantexas

Agree completely – you did a great job of making everything look great and doable. Like you, I usually get nude shades and was so impressed with how polished the bright Lorac lipstick was for your finished look. I will be looking for more of your reviews.

Thank you!

LOVE the tutorials. I never know if I do eye makeup correctly and this really helps! More tutorials please. Also you look great!

Thank you so much

Rachel

That lip looks so much prettier on you then me! Great tutorial thank you.

Dezi

How many coats did you use?

I love that you took advantage of the different shades in the swirled blush! It looks great!

I got the Girlactik Glow Duo, Angel Eyes eyeshadow primer and the Grande semi-matte liquid lipstick in Red Delicious. I love them all!

(If anyone is looking for a great eyeshadow primer that covers veins or discoloration, you have to try this! It’s thick but not super sticky and you barely need anything to cover both eyes. It blends very easily and also doesn’t clump together.)

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Wow Christine , Looks like you got everything I wanted lol . I was hoping to get the Girlactic Duo and the eyeshadow primer. The way you describe that primer makes me want to run out and buy it!

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

I was hoping for the primer, but got the eyeliner. I’ll probably pass it on since I rarely wear liner and never black. (I sometimes use shadow as liners though, the palette has quite a few nice shades for that.)

Reply ButtonReply

Nikkim

I think I’m the only one that didn’t get a liquid lip. I got a matte lip pencil stick in lilac lol

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Did you like the color on you?

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

That’s what I got, too. It’s too bright for me – a darker more subdued purple might have been fine, but not sure what to do with this one! I’ll probably gift it.

Reply ButtonReply

Loba

Thanks for the review! The tutorial was really helpful.

Also… That lip color is so stunning on you – gorgeous!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Thanks Loba

Abby

Great job with that very interesting eyeliner. I keep seeing brands coming out with the wheel applicator, and it is a little intimidating!

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

I thought so too but the wheel is really tiny so dont let it scare you too much Abby lol

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Wow, you’re look is great! I’m excited for the palette and hoping I get a lip color that coordinates well. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Thanks, still waiting on your box?

Reply ButtonReply

Jody

I think your look is just right. I love the idea to take a another brush in the blush for high lighting. I love the Orchid lip on you. I received a boring nude color.

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Funny you said that Jody, cause I was just telling another person how surprised I was to get another color besides nude. I always get stuck with nudes. I have a makeup drawer with nothing but nude lip colors. no joke.

Reply ButtonReply

Alex

I got the exact same box and I love the blush. Thank you for this tutorial, you are gorgeous!!!!

Dezi

Thanks Alex

I always love your reviews! You look flawless as usual, great use of the makeup. Can I ask which foundation and setting powder you use? I have no idea what color setting powder I need for my brown skin.

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Yes, I have a few favorites I go back & forth with. But because I have such oily skin lately I’ve been using No7 Stay Perfect Foundation ( in the shade Ebony). I like it cause it makes your skin look natural and i set it with my RCMA No-Color setting powder. It’s such a great and affordable product. I love it!
