I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Thank you for sharing this!! I moved back to the U.S. a little over 3 years ago and at the time, got PSMH, Birchbox and Ipsy (I’ve since, ahem, tried literally dozens since…) PSMH evidently doesn’t ship to APOs right now, but if you read the FAQ section, looks like they have old copy on there because it states they will bring it back and also that they don’t guarantee expedited shipping to APOs and post office boxes. Hrmm.

For those interested in how APO mail works, here’s a short primer:

I always got packages almost exactly 6 weeks to the day after they were mailed. That’s because they’d take ~ 1 week to cross the country and arrive at a hub (usually New York for AE, or “Army in Europe,” which is also the abbreviation used for Kuwait, Africa and SW Asia) via FedEx SmartMail/USPS. Once the mail arrives at a hub, it goes on a ship and it doesn’t move until it’s full of cargo. Once it’s on the ship, it’s not trackable, but as soon as it arrives in the region it’s going to, it’s trackable again because the military assumes (at least partial) responsibility for the mail and scans it in. For Germany, that’s typically in Bremerhaven, a port city, and it gets scanned after it gets on a truck going south. (If I remember correctly, things to deployed locations are not really trackable at all after leaving the U.S., for obvious reasons). Nothing goes air across the Atlantic or Pacific unless it’s Priority or Express, and then it took 8ish days to arrive at the destination. Then it usually takes another day or so once it’s in the mailroom to be manually sorted and placed in a p.o. box (non-deployed locales) or via whatever sorting method is used.

So needless to say, with all my deployments “etc.,” I got very patient when it came to mail! The ONLY thing I hated about it was MANY places won’t ship to APOs–and random things like some toothbrush heads (!) cannot be shipped overseas, either. Definitely many electronics cannot (but that has more to do with importation fees/taxes and that’s another story). Twice my Ipsy was randomly confiscated by the Zoll (German customs) and I had to leave work early to go downtown, wait in line, and open it in front of the customs worker–who’d just wave it off when they realized what it was and I was free to leave without paying Duty. It was always a bit nerve-wracking, though I speak German! 🙂
