Bookroo is a subscription service that sends books for children every month. They have a board book plan (for ages 0-2.5), a picture book plan (for ages 2.5-6) and a chapter book plan (for ages 7-10). They offer the option to alternate between picture and board books each month which is great if you have children in different age groups like I do.

This review is of the Board Book, $19.95 a month, box.

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Bookroo September 2018 Review

Here is a closer look at this month's fun wrapping paper! It's so bright and colorful!

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of each book.

My Backpack! A Lift the Flap Book by Scholastic - Retail Value $7.34

I love the Skip Hop animal line and my kids actually have these backpacks so this was a cute book to receive!

I love that each page is dedicated to a different animal and shows what they have inside their backpack. The items inside are the types of foods these animals would actually eat which is really fun and has a bit of an educational aspect to it. This was a simple, colorful book with lots of characters for kids to enjoy.

Peekaboo! On the Farm by Cocoretto - Retail Value $7.83 (5.99 GBP)

Books about farm animals are always a hit with my kiddos, and fortunately, this one was unique enough for me to enjoy as well.

Each page featured a different animal playing peekaboo and when you opened the flap it would show the animal and give a description of the picture. I think this book had some great vocabulary for a picture book, for example, the world galloping that is seen here. Plus it's a fun, interactive concept with the animals playing peekaboo and the flaps to lift.

Arf! Buzz! Cluck! A Rather Noisy Alphabet by Eric Seltzer - Retail Value $7.99

This book was a cute alphabet style book that focused on the sounds instead of the letters. It makes it just a bit more unique!

The illustrations were cute, very detailed and featured lots of different animals as they made their sounds throughout the pages. The rhyming words and the way they incorporated the alphabet into the text was really fun and interesting.

Verdict: I really enjoyed the books in our Bookroo board book box this month. You really can never go wrong with animal books and these were all filled with cute illustrations that kids will love. I like that two of the books had flaps to life which is great for children who need that tactile experience. Peekaboo will be great for younger babies and the backpack flaps are great for little toddler fingers!

The retail value of the books was $23.16 which is just under the $24.95 cost of the box ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping). I wasn't able to find any of the books on sale, which makes me feel a bit better about the value, and also since I am on the alternating plan, I think that this balances out with the months that I receive picture books since those are usually higher than the cost of the box. Now, if you are on the board book only plan, this might not feel like such a great value to you.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
