The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Vegan Cuts Beauty, $22.95 a month, box.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box July 2018 Review

The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box usually contains a variety of haircare, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month. Sometimes there is advertising or promotional material, as well.

Zatik Naturals Gratitude Face Serum (1 fl oz)

Zatik Naturals Gratitude Face Serum (1 fl oz) – Retail Value $32

This has a decidedly natural scent to it, maybe from the seaweed and algae ingredients (it has gardenia fragrance oil but that was just not coming through for me). It is an opaque serum that absorbs into the skin quickly (so quickly, you have to use rather a lot of it, but the bottle is full size so there is definitely enough to see if you like the product). I like that it has a ton of antioxidants from the algae, green tea, wild cherry, and other extracts. You can’t always see the results of antioxidants right away, but used over time they should help fight free radical damage and keep the skin looking youthful.

Balanced Guru Calm Aromatherapy Spray (0.27 fl oz) – Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $5)

Two scents were possible here; I received the “calm” one. This has lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, frankincense, and clary sage. I am not really smelling the frankincense but that is OK, frankincense is weird on its own (like something you would use to clear the sinuses). I mostly notice the sandalwood, which is fine by me as that is one of my favorite scents. I’m not really one of those people who just sprays things to change my mood, so I don’t know if I’ll remember to use this consistently, but I did find the scent pleasant, at least.

My Magic Mud Toothpaste (1 oz

My Magic Mud Toothpaste (1 oz) – Estimated Value $4 (buy four tubes for $16, found here for $14)

You’ll receive toothpaste from Vegan Cuts every now and then. I’m going to be passing this on to someone else for two reasons. First off, I have Invisalign right now and there are these things called “attachments” stuck to my teeth, that are not teeth, and they make my teeth not smooth, and I don’t want any charcoal to stick to them, and I don’t have any in the back to test how it would work and see if it would even be a problem – they are all front and center. (I also don’t want to whiten around them and then have my teeth be unevenly colored when I get the attachments taken off.) Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, this does not have fluoride, and that is a deal-breaker for me with toothpaste. I will only use toothpaste with fluoride.

Sade Baron Rhein Body Cream (1 fl oz)

Sade Baron Rhein Body Cream (1 fl oz) – Estimated Value $5 (buy 2 oz for $10)

We have received products from this brand in Vegan Cuts in the past and they have always seemed luxurious to me. I am not sure this pump bottle is the best method for dispensing the product; I see the full-size product comes in a jar. This is scented with ylang ylang and peppermint, which I find to be an odd combination (I think I am just not a huge fan of ylang ylang), but I didn’t think the scent stuck around too long after use, either, so I will finish this off by using it on my legs.

Crazy Rumors Ruby Red Grapefruit Lip Balm (0.15 oz) – Retail Value $3.49

This is at least the third tube of lip balm from this company I’ve received from Vegan Cuts in the past year. Various flavors were possible but I got a ruby red grapefruit one that I actually do like. I will never finish one off if they keep sending new ones, but I do have to say it is a quality product that can compete in terms of performance with well-known brands. It lasts reasonably long once applied and doesn’t get all gritty the way some natural lip balms can.

Sappo Hill Bamboo Charcoal Glycerin Crème Soap

Sappo Hill Bamboo Charcoal Glycerin Crème Soap – Retail Value $3

This is advertised as being for hair or body but I am staying far away from hair use. (It is recommended for oily hair and scalps and my hair is dry as a bone – I have to apply oils externally to avoid disappearing into a halo of frizz.) However, I do like it for the body. It is fragrance-free so it doesn’t irritate my skin at all, and the ingredients list is quite simple. It lathers well and I am definitely a fan of charcoal in skincare and bath/body products as I think they help draw gunk out of my pores.

Yes To Triple Masking Kit – Retail Value $3.99

Clay masks are Vegan Cuts Beauty Box mainstays. The idea here is you can use different products on different parts of your skin (one in the t-zone, one on the cheeks, etc.) for their different benefits. I, personally, didn’t want to have multiple open foil sample containers that were all partially used, so I just used the charcoal one first as a test. The pores on my nose looked a lot better afterward. I’ll save the others for appropriate times (for example, the vitamin C one after I’ve been in the sun, and the cucumber one when my skin is irritated). (It looks like some Yes To masks are available in individual tubes, which seems like a slightly better packaging idea to me, so you could easily reclose packages and/or buy them at different rates if you use them at different rates. But this is still good as a way to try different products to see if you like them.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $66.47 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That is pretty close to the usual value for this subscription and is almost three times the month-to-month subscription price. I did generally like the contents of the box, even if the items were more along the lines of basic essentials (body lotion, lip balm, soap, etc.) as opposed to anything new or groundbreaking. It is good to see what’s out there in the world of day-to-day personal care items, anyway, in case there is something I might like better than a product I am currently using!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you would receive the August box. They don't have a standard cut-off date, but boxes ship until their next month's spoilers launch (typically between the 26th and 29th of each month). If you are interested in trying some of the items, though, watch the Vegan Cuts shop for sales – they offer large bundles of past items fairly regularly.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Serum $11.04
  • Aromatherapy spray $5.18
  • Toothpaste $1.38
  • Body cream $1.73
  • Lip balm $1.20
  • Soap $1.04
  • Mask kit $1.38

yes! fluoride for life! i have also read some studies that have shown activated charcoal to be excessively abrasive to tooth enamel, causing microfissures that ultimately lead to enamel loss.

I was just coming to write the same thing…I do already have some thinning of the enamel and when I asked my dentist what I can really do to help she suggested two things — always use a toothpaste with fluoride and never use an overly abrasive toothpaste. She specifically said most “natural” or “whitening” toothpastes becoming more popular these days don’t check either of those boxes….

I made the mistake of asking my hygienist her opinion on natural toothpastes (since I keep getting them in boxes), and whooo boy… let’s just say that question really got her going 😀 (but essentially, she had the exact same response as your dentist)

I am currently using a whitening toothpaste, but only because I need one for sensitive teeth that doesn’t have sodium lauryl sulfate (a foaming agent that gives me canker sores, but which is fine for most people), and I could only find Sensodyne Extra Whitening at Target that fit those categories. I don’t think I have enamel problems, or at least I’ve never been told that, though? I’ve been told a lot of other things by dentists (that I grind my teeth, that I had receding gums on the bottom that needed grafts, that I had a tongue thrust causing my front teeth to move apart) so I think they are paying attention. I am not organized enough to order basics like toothpaste online, that is always a last-minute grab for me.
