Modcloth Stylish Surprise Box

ModCloth Stylish Surprise

A few times a year, ModCloth announces their “Stylish Surprise”, where they sell select mystery items you at a deep discount. We're talking typically pricier pieces for around $10-$20!  You choose the category and select the size, but otherwise, you don't know what you will receive until it arrives in the mail; hence the surprise! It can be a bit of a gamble because you can get anything from their wide range of styles and aesthetics, but that is the fun of it all!

Modcloth Stylish Surprise info

FYI - no boxes are currently available for purchase. Stylish Surprises sell out incredibly fast! The great thing about Stylish Surprise, though, is there always seems to be another one right around the corner.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes)

Modcloth Styllish Surprise Info

As with normal ModCloth orders, the box comes with an invoice.

Modcloth Stylish Surprise I Donut Care Aparmtnet

Modcloth Stylish Surprise I donut care apartment 2

"I Donut Care" Desk Plaque - Estimated Value $29

My value is estimated off of similar desk plaques because I couldn't find this exact one on their website. This is my Decor surprise. The Apartment/Decor category is usually the first to sell out and I've never seen it in stock when I've ordered. I know these Modcloth Stylish Surprises are fundamentally random and notoriously hit or miss. I've heard of people getting everything from a plastic wall hook to a pricey Bluetooth speaker! I got a punny desk plaque. It's well-made and would be cute for the right person, but it's unfortunately just not my style.

Modcloth Stylish Surprise Lip balm and scrub

Modcloth Stylish Surprise Lip scrub

Shining Smiles Lip Scrub and Balm Set in Rose - Retail Value $25

I guess this is my Accessories surprise. There's no Stylish Surprise category for beauty or body that this would fit in better. It's definitely not an accessory, though. That being said, the products are nice - the scent is sweet and flowery, and the scrub has a good grit to it and comes with a little spatula to dig out of the pot. I'm pretty disappointed I didn't get an actual accessory though.

Modcloth Stylish Surprise top

Collectif Regularly Scheduled Sass Button-Up Top - Retail Value $45

This is my Top surprise. The design of the top itself is actually great - it fits like a glove and is really quite flattering, although just a little short on my torso. I just don't know what to do with this print. In my head, I'm really thinking, "do I dislike the print more than I like the cut of the top?" The flamingos just aren't me - they might be more so, if they were less realistic-looking if that makes sense? I want to love this top so badly, but I'm just not sure if I'll actually wear it anywhere.

Modcloth Stylish Surprise outerwear

Verified Visionary Coat - Retail Value $199

This coat is my Outerwear surprise! It's quite a nice coat - the quality is obvious. The fabric is a completely embroidered textile. The construction is solid, too, and it has pockets! I'm really happy with how it fits me. It's definitely not something I'd pick out for myself and I didn't love it when I first pulled it out of the box, but it has grown on me! I think the print is pretty, although not something I normally wear. I think I want to give it a shot, and style and wear it, but that'll have to wait until Fall and cooler weather. I have to say, though, that I have had great success with outerwear from Modcloth! I've ordered it two or three times and the items I've received have been chic and high-value.

Verdict: This Stylish Surprise was interesting! I was happy to grab a decor surprise for the first time in years, even though it didn't end up being something I love. Both the top and the coat fit me really well and are flattering, which is a win! The prints for both are just outside of my comfort zone, but the quality and designs are lovely.

I paid $55 plus $5.99 shipping for the $15 Top, $20 Outerwear, $10 Accessories and $10 Decor surprises. I received $298 worth of items!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, Stylish Surprise is over, but it happens a few times a year so one might be right around the corner!

I’m obsessed with ModCloth. Is so cool!

the flamingos are so ugly that I almost love the shirt. It’s defjnitely something I would consider buying from a thrift store. But then, I had a grandpa shirt back in high school by some brand called “ugly shirt”.

I hope you change your mind about it because it is so stupid and quirky. It’s like the Hawaiian shirt’s cousin.

OH that coat is *really* pretty! I’ve only done Stylish Surprise once and it was a mess, so never again for me. But I love seeing what everyone gets.

My box of Stylish Ripoff came today. OMG. Last time they cancelled my order for being “over sold” on outerwear. I couldn’t snag outerwear this time. 7 items, all garbage.

My favorite is getting an accessory that at full RV cost less than the surprise price. Yeah, eff you too, Modcloth.

I ordered SS for the first time this year….I got one apartment, one top and one bottom (because I love MC skirts). I too got a worthless name plate which ticked me off! My top was a polka dot top with a peter pan color which wasn’t too bad except I think I am just too old for the collar. The bottoms were a pair of teal pants that look like scrubs….they are very comfy but a bit big on me and I just don’t think I’ll wear them. The thing that most made me mad about the pants is that I paid $20 for them but they were on clearance for $16! So it was a total loss…..boo…. I would have gone for the outerwear but it sold out before I had a chance. What a waste of $55……so mad at myself

Alex

You look great in the top and the jacket. I love them!

I think the coat is unique I’m not much into wearing 🦌 on my clothing but that embroidery work is fab and the style of the coat is fab so why not embrace the lil deer giving each other endeering deer stares!! 😂 I guarantee u if u do embrace the deer u more than likely will get endeering stares! 🤣
Now that flamingo top really is cute and is flattering even for being a tad to short but honestly I think it’s super cute and like before with the deer I’m not much for wearing any animals on my clothing but theres just something that’s chic about it, maybe the black with the bright pink of course I think flamingos are pretty cool even on a top!! And I think a long black under tank top would suffice to help it “blend” better. And if I received beauty items as my accessory item I think I’d have to call them about that!
Kind of funny that most of ur mystery items are animal based! Lol

I actually had them cancel my apartment surprise five minutes after I ordered it. A part of me wishes I just changed it to outerwear. There were some really cute jackets going around. Although with my luck I would have gotten a too tight denim vest.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

You are lucky they cancelled it! Rainbow 🌈 tape is going around like PS inflatable swans!

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

I wish that I had not gotten home decor and accessories (total waste of money) and another outerwear instead. My outerwear is a nice burgundy velvet blazer which is a bit tight but wearable.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

Every time I get disappointed by my Stylish Surprise purchase, I say “never again”, but next time I see the announcement of another one, I race to the site to give them money again. I think a lot of us bought the home decor one only to get a useless desk plate. No one to blame but myself.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

I got TWO tape despensers, identical with rainbow tape. Not only did I get something lame, they thought I’d appreciate duplicates.

Reply ButtonReply

Jb

I just saw a pic on Reddit of this same duplicate. If it wasn’t you, then someone else got 2 rainbow tape dispensers which would be hilarious.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Wasn’t me!! Bahaha! There are more poor suckers with extra rainbow tape

Haley Faye

Beth, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about getting duplicates when they order more than one of the same category. Definitely a bummer. =/

That coat is everything.

Just here for the swans. (I saw your Instastory) – LOL!! It happens!!!!

Haley Faye

🤦🏼‍♀️🙄 haha!

Haley,
The black flamingo top is cute and tropical prints are always on trend in the summer. You look great in it!

To make it more wearable, the chiffon underlayer camis which are longer length are often available for a 3 day sales period on the site Jane.com. I have a black one and an ivory one because I’m tall, too, and don’t want to wear short tops with leggings.

The top part is not chiffon, it’s cottony feeling, but the bottom which is slightly ruffled, is a poly chiffon.
Amazon might have them as well, as almost everything is on there. 😉

Haley Faye

That’s awesome! Thanks, Mandy!

Christina

If you don’t want that flamingo top you need to send it to me. Seriously. I am in love with it and it’s adorable on you

Reply ButtonReply

Kate N.

The coat saved it all…really nice! And very flattering on you! Think of the rest as a bonus…two gifts you don’t have to buy!

Reply ButtonReply

Holly

Love the coat!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Cyndi

This was an incredible deal for you and that coat…it’s really cute and looks great on you!

Reply ButtonReply

Haley Faye

Thanks, Cyndi!!

Reply ButtonReply

Chelsea

The coat looks amazing on you…rock it. It is gorgeous.

Reply ButtonReply

Haley Faye

Thanks, Chelsea! I’m excited to play with it this fall!

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I would wear a flamingo print. Bolder than that, even.

But, I would not wear a top that was that short on my torso.

Reply ButtonReply

DawnS

Swans hehehehehe. Anywho both clothing items look great on you. And I love the flamingos and deer prints, so charming, so ModCloth.
I also got the plaque but with the phrase “Cat Hair Don’t Care” I gave it to a friend who ended up finding humor in it. The value I felt was more of the $4.99 range for it thought lol.
Bummer no real accessory but I guess that is the roll of the dice.
Overall I would say 50/50 with the 2 most expensive items being wins is pretty good for stylish surprise.

Reply ButtonReply

Haley Faye

The reason my brain was thinking swans was because I was looking at a swan print top to look for similar pricing xD

Reply ButtonReply

DawnS

hehehehehe, totally figured! Still think its cute. As for the length of the top….perhaps adding a second peplum layer of black fabric underneath or a black cami or even high waisted jeans?

Ragan

“Cat Hair Don’t Care” probably needs to go in my kitchen. (We don’t invite people over to eat…)

Reply ButtonReply

DawnS

lol 🙂 that is how my friend is! But I always manage to get over cause in reality no one cares as long as they aren’t allergic !

Haley Faye

Oh, man – I meant Flamingos xD Brain derp.

Reply ButtonReply

Amber P

The pattern of the flamingo shirt is cute, but I’m a sucker for flamingos.

Some people really knock it out of the park with these boxes, but I can’t say I’m super envious of any of these pieces. I’m definitely not fashion adventurous enough to give it a try!

Reply ButtonReply

Leslie

The buffalo print on the coat is so cute! Just teasing you. Not about the fit of the coat, you do look awesome in it! And the swan top is cute too.

Reply ButtonReply

Haley Faye

Haha yes – my brain was confused because I found swan top prints while looking for this one for retail value! Derp. We’ll fix that! Sorry!

Reply ButtonReply

Leslie

Don’t be sorry. We can all tell you are an intelligent strong woman and loving mother.
The swan comment was actually adorable. Don’t fix it. We all have our moments. Just go with it!

DawnS

Buffalo!! Love it!!! 🙂

Amy

That jacket is fabulous! 😍

“The swans just aren’t me” – they look like flamingos 🙂
The coat looks pretty awesome, but I never get the idea of having short (cut half) sleeves on coats. Why? if this is a coat and meant to be wear in cool weather, why would I leave half of my arms exposed? It does not make any sense.
Haley, you look great in this coat!

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

I agree on the your logic. That being said, I have several vintage coats with half sleeves that look wonderful in a 50’s mod kind of way when worn with long black sleeves. Even long gloves solve the problem, and who doesn’t like an excuse to wear opera gloves?

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

…those are flamingos. You look very cute in both things, but the prints are definitely unique. Odd that they sent you makeup in the accessories category!
