Lillypost is a monthly children’s book subscription! They offer three subscription options: The Picture Book Box that includes 3 books for ages 4-7, The Board Book Box that includes 3 books for ages 0-3, or the Mixed Book Box that includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages. From Lillypost:

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book box for $19.99 a month. This option includes both board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Lillypost August 2018 Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their new coloring contests. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is Ancient Egypt and I love that they included some fun facts too!

My First Book of Things to Learn by Tiger Tales - Retail Value $8.99

The board book we received is a great one for helping to build baby's vocabulary. The book features a lot of images and nice little tabs that open to each section.

The book goes through various categories and has a lot of text and fun pictures that babies and young children will find interesting. I love how bright everything is and that there is so much to point out and learn about.

Chicken Lily by Lori Mortensen - Retail Value $16.99

Lily is a very shy, timid chicken who doesn't like to try new things or take chances. She feels much more comfortable playing it safe and is scared when she learns about an upcoming poetry jam where she might have to read her own poem aloud.

Lily comes up with a list of excuses for why she can't participate, but her teacher isn't fooled and she ends up having to be brave for once. This was such a cute story and a great one for shy kids who haven't quite broken out of their own shells yet. This definitely doesn't pertain to my wild children at the moment, but it's a great story about being brave in everyday situations!

Herman's Vacation by Tom Percival - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $13.80)

This is a story about two animal friends who are planning their vacation and end up going camping because it's the most affordable option. While Herman seems to be enjoying everything, Henry is not having quite as much fun, until Herman plans a special surprise to make it just a bit more fun for him.

This book is unique in the fact that it has regular paper pages, but has various little cardboard flaps to lift throughout the book. In the above picture, you can see inside of the backpack. Such a cute idea for the story! The surprise of these flaps makes this such a fun book to read and is more interactive than most pictures books. Plus the story itself is incredibly cute!

Verdict: I enjoyed the selections we received in our Lillypost box this month! The board book will be great for teaching vocabulary, and just fun for kids to point out all of the bright images. The picture books were really cute as well and I love that the bear book was interactive and so unique with the flaps throughout.

The total retail value of the books came to $43.97 (less with sale prices), and the cost of the box was $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) which is a great value for the books that we received this month!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the September box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  •  My First Book of Things to Learn: $5.09
  • Chicken Lily: $9.62
  • Herman's Vacation: $10.19

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
