Go Native! August 2018 Review

Lauoho Theme and featured brand

The front of the info card this month teaches us the Hawaiian word "lauoho" which means "hair on the head" and happens to be the theme this month. They also talk about Kamaile Puaoi, from one of the featured brands: Noho Designs, who made the included sustainable headband.

List of items included

On the flipside, you'll find a list of the items and a short description of each.

Mamalani Dry Shampoo back of Mamalani Dry Shampoo

Mamalani Olu Olu Dry Shampoo, 1 oz. - Estimated Retail Value $4.00 (Buy 3 oz. for $12.00)

THIS. SMELLS. HEAVENLY. I mean, it's in the Go Native! box, so that is kind of a given. I love the way the rosemary, peppermint, and sage essential oils make this organic arrowroot, kaolin clay, and baking soda powder mix smell super fresh while they absorb excess oils in my thin hair on days I don't want to wash it. I have so many different sprays that never end up lasting, but this one is all natural and travels way easier as well! Mamalani powders are always great and I'm excited to add this one to my collection.

Auau Hawaii Lemongrass Lime Conditioner Directions for Auau Hawaii Lemongrass Lime Conditioner Ingredients for Auau Hawaii Lemongrass Lime Conditioner

Auau Hawaii Lemongrass Lime Conditioner - Estimated Retail Value $10.00 (Buy a set of shampoo + conditioner for $20.00)

Continuing the haircare theme is this conditioner made with Hawaiian raw honey, rosemary extract, Hawaiian macadamia nut oil, plus lemongrass and lime essential oils. Again, some of my most favorite scents in one! This smells so wonderful that it's taking all of my self-control to not drink this. I cannot wait to use this during my next shower to see how it makes my hair feel after a good shampooing. I do wish that shampoo was also included, but I will cherish this one on its own.

Even the business card they sent is beautiful.

Aim Hi Everyday Leave In Hair Mist Aim Hi Everyday Leave In Hair Mist with cap off back of Aim Hi Everyday Leave In Hair Mist

Aim Hi Everyday Leave In Hair Mist, 2 oz. - Retail Value $18.00

Give me everything in glass bottles, especially with a pump. This "after beach leave-in hair mist" includes peppermint, rosemary, and geranium along with assorted oils like jojoba and sweet almond to create this light spray that can also be used as a moisturizer for the skin. Thank goodness, because I already started spraying it all over me. The sun is out which means the windows of my car are down and my hair is getting tangled and messy. This mist will help restore damage with the vitamins A, E, & B that are included in the ingredients. It will also tame frizz. Perfect for summer tresses!

Noho Designs Pink Palaka Headband Noho Designs Pink Palaka Headband laying flat Noho Designs Pink Palaka Headband on model

Noho Designs Pink Palaka Headband

While this headband is a little on the tight side for my already small head, I ended up appreciating how snug it was when it kept my hair tightly back. I use a headband every night to keep my hair out of my face while I do my evening skin routine and this pink one with a front knot happens to be a lot cuter. The print is called "palaka" and is iconic in Hawaii. This was designed and handsewn by Hawaiian native, Kamaile Puaoi.

Manuhealii Green Scrunchie Manuhealii Green Scrunchie on model

Manuheali'i Scrunchie

I'm going to say it: I don't own any scrunchies but there is something refreshing about this one made from a vibrant green patterned fabric. It looks so lush and healthy! This can help keep my hair back in tandem with the headband since my hair tends to swing to the front as soon as I bend down to splash my face with water. I thought it'd be too large for my fine hair, but it actually doesn't look too overwhelming at all.

Verdict: I was tickled pink to receive so many hair items in this month's  Go Native! box. All three hair care products smell DIVINE and both the scrunchie and headband are super useful for my daily routine.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but their cutoff date is the 15th to receive the following month so order today to receive September as your first month.

Value Breakdown: At $37.00 a month + $4.60 shipping for this box, you're paying $8.32 for each of the five items.

Ack! So sorry. That should say “September”.
We do normally post spoilers (although looks like we missed August), so be on the lookout to see what is in upcoming boxes since unfortunately, their shipping timing doesn’t allow that you get the current box.

According to Cratejoy via the link above, we would have had to order by July 15. Anyhoo, that’s too bad…I want this box…! 🙂

That sucks,me too. I wish a lot of the reviews were earlier for boxes like that. I’d definitely order more then.
