Our Unboxing & Review

Ecocentric Mom July 2018 Review

Ecocentric Mom customizes some of the products they send to you based on your due date or child's birthday. With a focus on eco-friendly or green products, they'll send you items from a variety of different categories: usually, we see some wellness products, healthy snacks, eco-friendly alternatives to products you may already use, and kids toys/accessories from green brands.

Welcome Card

This month, they've switched away from adding tiny cards for each item and instruct you to go to this page for more info. I love that this creates less trash! Plus, I wasn't getting cards for all of the items in my box anyway, so this feels like an improvement.

The July 2017 Unboxing page also lets you see what other subscribers are getting for other age ranges– so if you've got a younger child than me, or if you're interested in the pregnancy box, you can get an idea of what other types of items could have been in your box!

Sheet Mask

Masker Aide Beauty Rest'ore Mask – Retail Value $5.37 (based on current exchange rates. $7 CAD)

It's actually been a good while since I've done a sheet mask! And now that I'm in my third trimester and chasing around a three-year-old, I need all the self-care time I can get.

Sheet Mask

I feel like I've seen this brand at Target in the past, but I don't think I've ever picked this one up. The actual mask was cut a little oddly in that I felt like the eye holes were too small, so I had a hard time relaxing while I waited for this to do its thing.

In the end, though, I thought this was pleasantly moisturizing, with plenty of delivery of the actual product. I felt cool and refreshed before heading off to bed.

EIR Body Oil

Eir NYC Sunset Oil, 1 oz  – Retail Value $7 (Buy 8 oz for $35 here)

I've been really enjoying body oils this summer, and this one is no exception.

EIR Body Oil

This has a pleasantly warm scent and absorbs readily. Meant as an after-sun treatment, I've been using it on hands and belly after showering, and I'm loving every minute of it. It's been a nice change of pace from the floral oils that are part of my regular routine and definitely leaves my skin with a nice glow. Made in the US, too, which I always love to see for natural beauty brands.

Lavender Baby Shampoo and Body Wash

Marama Chamomile & Lavender Baby Shampoo & Wash, 8 fl oz – Retail Value $14.99 (Available here for $10.99)

Alright, I was totally going to keep this for baby #2, but I've been getting kind of annoyed at the soap scum that our Dr. Bronner's Baby Wash has been leaving in the tub. And I'm so glad I used this on my son because it smells SO GOOD.

Lavender Baby Shampoo and Body Wash

Seriously. All children should smell like lavender, it really works wonders to help ME calm down when he's having a tantrum. 😉

This soap lathers well and smells amazing, and I appreciate that it's a clear formula that is free of unnecessary dyes. You can also use it as a bubble bath!

Boom Chicka Pop Kettlecorn

Boom Chicka Pop Kettle Corn, 1 oz – Estimated Value $1.50? (Buy a 7 oz. bag for $4.49)

It occurred to me when I saw this that my son has maybe never had popcorn before, so I saved this to share with him.

Boom Chicka Pop Kettlecorn

Typical of all three-year-olds: he hated it and refused to put it in his mouth, then a few minutes later returned to the bowl and just started eating handfuls of it.

Boom Chicka Pop Kettlecorn

For my part, I also don't eat a lot of popcorn, but I definitely thought this was some of the tastiest bagged kettled corn I've ever had. It was very crunchy and just the right blend of sweet and salt. And of course, it has no more ingredients than it really needs!

Set of 3 Sprout Plates

Set of 3 Sprout Ware Plates - Retail Value $9.99 (Available here for $4.99)

(This is one of those items where the value seems to vary widely from one retailer to the next.)

I was so excited to see these because the Sprout Ware Snack Cups we received from this subscription are some of our favorites! This material is great and I love that it's plant-based and free of PVC and BPAs.

I noticed a negative review that says they are not dishwasher safe, but we've always put our Sprout Ware products in the dishwasher and I've personally never had an issue.

Set of 3 Sprout Plates

As it turns out, we haven't really used these much because they're pretty small– like a teacup saucer. We're in the middle of a growth spurt right now, so my son is eating larger meals than usual, and these just seem so tiny for his current appetite.

That said, I think they'll be perfect for when our second child arrives and eventually starts exploring the wide world of solid food, so we are hanging onto these for now.

Cactus Print Reusable Shopping Tote

Blu Bag Reusable Shopping Tote – Retail Value $9.95

I'm still totally not over the "cactus trend" and I LOVE this bag! Looks like subscribers could have received one of four variations, so I'm so thrilled to have gotten this one. It's perfect.

Cactus Print Reusable Shopping Tote

Reusable shoppers are something everyone should own. My biggest pet peeve in life is when I'm not paying attention and the cashier puts every single item into its own separate plastic bag. 😭 So much waste! It's so easy to bring your own bags to the store, and some places give you a small discount, too.

Cactus Print Reusable Shopping Tote

This bag is a little smaller than my favorite brand, Baggu, but it still comfortably holds quite a bit. In addition to the zipper pouch (which you can stuff the bag into), you can also roll the bag up and use that blue elastic loop to hold it in place!

The elastic loop is also a convenient place to hook your zipper pouch, so you have a little pocket for your keys and wallet.

I also love that this brand supports other causes with their charitable giving program.

Verdict: My July Ecocentric Mom Box had an overall value of $48.80 and was another home run for me in terms of what we received! Everything will be useful in our home and I love the quality and variety of the products, and of course the fact that they are all more eco-friendly and healthier alternatives to products we may already use.

To Wrap Up:

Is this box still available if I subscribe today? No. If you sign up now, your first box will be the August box.

I really love their Mom products only box, it always includes good stuff. I like the ability to skip their boxes too but so wish other boxes would add that feature too.

This looks like a good box you received and I’ve had one of their reusable bags for several years and I still use it and it’s held together fantastically.

That’s a really good point about the lavender baby wash! It calms everybody down, lol. I did think my daughter seemed to enjoy it more than my grandson.

They sell giant bags of that popcorn at Costco! Which can be a bit dangerous, but you can eat a lot for not many calories. I love that bag!
