Stay With Me: A Novel by Ayobami Adebayo - Retail Value $16 (found on sale here for $12.80)
This book has received numerous accolades and for good reason—it is amazing! This isn't an easy, happy-go-lucky parable about innocent love. It is heartbreaking and crushing and compelling, showing all of the truths we are forced to see when we commit to love another person. This book is incredibly thought-provoking (as is the norm from the books selected by the folks over at the DRC), and I really enjoyed being able to experience Nigerian culture in a way that I was previously unaware of—even when some of the aspects were far outside what I normally would consider. Deep Readers Club always selects the best candles, and this is month is no exception. The combination of sea salt and orchids is such a lovely, refreshing scent that brightens up the room when I burn it. I love candles, and it really adds to my reading ambiance when I get to have a candle burning.
Typologie Paper Co. “Love” Definition Print, 5” x 7” – Estimated Value $8
We get a different definition every month, and my opinion hasn’t really changed. I’ll be honest and admit that it’s not my favorite thing about this subscription, but I don’t think anyone is subscribing to this box specifically for the print. This isn’t a big-ticket item, so, to me, it is just something to neatly pile on my desk because I don’t want to throw it away but I also don’t have a use for it.
Harney & Sons Tagalong Tea Tin in African Autumn, 5 tea sachets - Retail Value $4 (found on sale here for $3.20)
We got a tin of tea from Harney & Sons last month and I was happy to see them again this month, though in a different blend. African Autumn was chosen as a nod to the book setting, and the blend of rooibos with hibiscus and orange peel made for a fruity aroma that was quite pleasant. I love the way this tea is presented, as I can easily pop the tin in my purse to have a fresh brew whenever I so need it!
Cognitive Surplus Anatomy of the Heart and Arteries Tote - Retail Value $18 (found on sale here for $14.95)
I am in love with the unique twist of including an anatomical heart tote in the box, considering the theme is love! This is a sturdy tote, and the print is an early medical illustration of the heart and arteries. This would be a great tote to take to the farmers market for all of my produce and other finds, but I am also torn because I think this would make a great gift for my sister who is a doctor!
The Verdict: Deep Readers Club is such a lovely subscription to receive! I really look forward to a new book, tea, and candle every month, and I find the other bookish items included to be great for the box as well. This box doesn’t make any promises on reaching a certain value threshold, but I calculated a value of $54.50, which I think is more than fair for a box that costs $47.24 ($35.25 a month plus $11.99 shipping) and includes high-quality artisan goods.
