Whiskerbox July 2018 Review

One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else! Let’s see what was in store this month:

There was an information card in the box listing the items. It also had my cats’ names!

Please note: Whiskerbox recently changed their information cards a bit. There are some box variations and everything you could possibly receive is listed, though you won’t necessarily get every item on the card. (You will still receive, in the case of the “Meow” version, 4-6 items, including apparel, for a total value of $76 or greater. For what it’s worth, I think the $76 is Canadian; I am pretty sure Whiskerbox is based out of Canada somewhere, although I can’t find an address to confirm this.)

Personalized Cat Apparel from Cat Couture – Listed Value $45

I can’t find any of the items in the box this month online. At any rate, the cat costumes are never available for purchase elsewhere so I have to take the values given on the information card. Please be aware, they may be in Canadian dollars, it is not clear to me, but that would mean the US value was a little lower due to the exchange rate.

Anyway, I am not sure what to call this. Bunny overalls? It doesn’t matter, though. What matters is how funny the cats look wearing it, and you can see some examples of that below. I got all three of my “old men” (Mr. Kitty who is almost 14, Monkey who is 12 or 13, and Madison who is 11) into this.

All for Paws Modern Cat Feather Snake Toy – Listed Value $10

I see this brand in cat subscription boxes often, but they must be wholesale-only. At any rate, this hits all the high points for my crew: feathers, different textures, stringy things, and catnip, of course.

Cat IQ Salmon Kicker Toy – Listed Value $12

This is a medium-sized kicker. My cats were more interested in licking it (especially Monkey) and rubbing their chins on it. I think the texture of the material it is made from is interesting and that is probably what attracted Monkey. It doesn’t feel like fish scales, but it does feel like something a little nicer/high quality than most mass-market cat toy brands.

Cat IQ Rabbit Fur Teaser Wand Toy – Listed Value $12

This is just a bit of real rabbit fur glued to a plastic stick, but sometimes simple is better. My cats were fascinated with the fur (as they usually are with real fur) and didn’t manage to detach it from the stick, so this was a win. (You will sometimes get real rabbit fur items with this subscription.)

Biting rabbit fur is a thing at my house, I guess.

Angus also likes feathers.

Madison rubs his chin on the fish.

I actually got Madison in the costume this month. I may have offered him tuna paste to lure him out from under the bed, then locked him in the bathroom for the photo session…

I love Monkey’s reactions to costumes, and also how all his belly fur sticks out.

Sneaky likes rabbit fur, though she’s disappointed there was no food.

Mr. Kitty did not want to put the costume on, but I knew that going in. So I left the e-collar around his neck while I buttoned him in. He was trying SO HARD to bite me through the plastic. Then I put the e-collar back on while I took the costume off. I feel a little bad about that.

He liked the rabbit fur, though.

And here, I pose him with some of the other toys. He seemed interested in the feathers as well.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $79 for the July 2018 Whiskerbox. None of the items this month were available for sale on the web so I had to use the information card values, but I had a ball with the costume and my cats liked the toys. I have never received any of these items in another cat subscription box (some cat boxes get repetitive, so the novelty is worth something, in my opinion).
