Rutz Naturals In Your Face Mist, 2 0z. — Retail Value $29.00
As I'm sure many of us have, I've encountered many facial spritzes in my day that are meant simply to refresh and rejuvenate. That's a lovely concept, but so far it hasn't been a strong enough argument for me to add that extra step into my rather simple skincare routine in the morning. The more I consider what it means to have a fulfilled daily life, though, the more I wonder if maybe the moment of quiet that comes along with waiting for the spritz to dry on one's face is a nice, innocuous way to pause for a moment and invite gratitude in. Additionally, this Rutz spray claims to have many more benefits than just a self-loving gesture.
I couldn't help but include images of all four sides of this product's box so you could see all that's included in this product. The only thing that concerned me was the sun warning under the directions. My skin is pretty sensitive to the sun, to begin with, so I'm rather hesitant to use a product containing AHA, which could increase my risk of a negative dermatological effect.
As far as the mist itself goes, it smells lovely, like lavender and geranium. I agree that it's a very spa-like scent and experience. I'm a little bummed about the AHA since this is such a nice product, but I have plenty of friends for whom sun exposure doesn't pose such an issue, and I'm sure one of them would love to use this mist!
YOUTH Exfoliating Botanical Mask, 2 0z. - Retail Value $19.99
Similarly to my experience with facial spritzes, I haven't traditionally been one to include masks in my regular skincare routine. Again (and even more so in the case of a mask than a spritz), it has struck me as time-consuming—a few minutes when I could be doing something else. And, again the argument can be made that taking time to do "nothing" is maybe more beneficial than I had previously thought. In that spirit, I gave this mask—which has a neutral, earthy scent—a go with an open mind.
Some masks I've tried for other subscription boxes just require dipping your fingers in and spreading it on your face. This one comes in powder form into which you have to mix water, so I prepared it in a ramekin first. As promised on both the site and jar, it turns a really pretty berry color when the water is added! You mix until a paste is formed and leave on your face for 5-15 minutes. I stuck closer to 5 minutes and felt a really nice clay-like cooling sensation the whole time. When I rinsed it off was when I felt the gentle exfoliation. I must admit my skin feels very smooth and refreshed! I like that this mask uses natural ingredients and that its hibiscus flower powder is meant to stimulate collagen production. I think this is my favorite face mask I've tried so far—maybe I'll make it a bi-weekly or monthly routine!
The Innate Life Rose Hair Elixir, 0.34 fl. oz. - Retail Value $15.00
Last summer I stayed in an Airbnb and the hostess said to help myself to anything in her medicine cabinet, and in it was a rose-scented perfume that turned my eyes into hearts and made me smell amazing all weekend. I've been chasing rose scents ever since and was really pleased to find that this hair elixir has that same naturally rosy aroma. I don't tend to have problems with frizz—I have rather fine hair, so I welcome anything even remotely resembling volume—but I can see it coming in handy in the wintertime when static and hats and dryness are in the mix. The consistency is thick and oily (it is indeed an oil), so it sat a little heavy on the ends of my hair, but I imagine those with thicker hair would like this product a lot!
Ivy Creek Ocean Breeze Soy Candle, 4 oz. - Retail Value $4.49
Now, here's a summery scent for ya! I don't know exactly what Ocean Breeze means, nor are scent ingredients listed anywhere on this tin, but I will say that the smell is refreshing and delightful. I don't have many candles with a wooden wick, but I love the look of them. It's amazing how something so small and simple as a wick can be such a joyful thing! It's promised to crackle a bit while burning, which I'm pretty pumped about.
Manna Kadar Brow Boss Brow Pencil - Retail Value $21.00
I just bought an eyebrow pencil for the first time about a month ago! As I mentioned above, I have a pretty simple morning/beauty routine and opt for a natural look most of the time, so most days I'm not filling my brows in. But, I'm into the whole thick, dark (within reason) brow thing, so I figured I'd give them a gentle boost for special occasions. This pencil was a bit too dark for my hair and skin tone, and its highlighter end is just a little too advanced for my pretty amateur makeup level, so I think I'll be passing this one along to a friend. It's nice quality, though!
The Happy Shoppe Good Vibes Magic Travel Pouch - Retail Value $15.99
This is a TheraBox exclusive travel pouch. To be honest, I had a hard time figuring it out—turns out I was making it more complicated than it needed to be! Basically, you just lay its circular shape out flat on your table, toss what you need in the center, cinch the sides, and close the flap over top. I have a more traditional toiletry bag that works just fine for me, so I think I'll be moving this one along.
Tru Beauty Choose Joy Tangle Ease Brush - Retail Value $12.69
This brush is designed with an ergonomic handle and soft plastic bristles to gently detangle your hair. My light & fine hair doesn't get too tangled, and usually, a simple comb does the trick when it does, but my husband has long curly hair that basically turns into dreadlocks if left to its own devices. Because of his curls, he's not doing any dry hair-brushing, and typically uses a wide-tooth comb to work through it with conditioner while in the shower. I'm not sure how open he'd be to using a brush, but I'm going to pitch it to him! I also know that scalp stimulation can help with hair growth, so maybe I'll work use of this brush into my day-to-day as well!
The Happy Shoppe Spread Good Vibes Kit - Retail Value $7.99
TheraBox always impresses me with their creative ways of boosting joy and positivity, and this Spread Good Vibes set is a great example of that. This postcard set equips you with 4 different ways of sending a little lovin' along—first to your past self, then to a loved one, someone who inspires you, and a stranger. I think this is a brilliant idea and will set myself a deadline of end-of-summer to have these 4 postcards filled out.
Verdict: June's TheraBox offered a nice variety of self-love products! Most were spa-themed and/or beauty-related, but true to form, they also included some items that would make great gifts and/or can be used in a shared space with others. I love that this box supports small businesses who use mostly natural ingredients. Value-wise, this month totals $126.15. Considering that the box costs $34.99 for subscription + $4.99 shipping, there is no questioning that this box is a great value.
