Sparkle Hustle Grow June 2018 Review

The theme for the July box is “Video Marketing” and the box contained 6 items + a video training centered around video for modern entrepreneurs. I know nothing about video marketing, so I was excited to learn a bit more!

Also included was a $5 coupon for their “Boutique for Boss Ladies” online store.

YouTube Starter Toolkit by Jessica Stransberry

YouTube Starter Toolkit by Jessica Stransberry  – Retail Value $99.00

The perfect toolkit that will show you how to set up your YouTube channel on the right food based on YOUR goals with video and the platform!

This training is provided by Jessica Stansberry, a Video Marketing Strategist with a very successful channel. This kit includes the following and is backed by a 30-day money back guarantee:

  • Instructions on how to use the toolkit.
  • Video run-through of getting your channel setup the right way.
  • 4 checklists to help you have a consistent product every time you create a video.
  • Filming
  • Editing
  • Uploading + Instructional VIDEO
  • Optimizing + Instructional VIDEO
  • Equipment + Systems Checklist
  • Channel setup checklist

I didn’t complete all of the training, and I’m sure this is really helpful for some people. I’m a bit critical through, and I thought that the intro video alone was pretty choppy and instantly felt like $99 was pretty steep for this type of canned advice.

Now – onto the physical items included in the box!

VLOG Like a Boss: How to Kill It Online with Video Blogging by Amy Schmittauer – Retail Value $14.99

So, again I’ve never been into video blogging but thought this was a pretty interesting read. I liked hearing her talk about some of her trials, lessons learned, and how she became the authority in this area. I thought the advice was sound, and the tone was fun. It was a pretty quick read, and I’ll keep it on my bookshelf as a handy reference! From Amazon:

Vlog Like a Boss is the complete guide to video blogging. Amy Schmittauer is the Vlog Boss. As a new media triple threat -- YouTuber, keynote speaker, and author -- she coaches people to go after what they want in life and leverage online video to make it happen. Creator of the popular YouTube series Savvy Sexy Social, her channel boasts a global community and millions of views. Now, in her first book, she will show you how to Vlog Like a Boss and get the attention you deserve. A collection of strategies and tactics from years of experience in online video, Schmittauer shares time-tested, proven methods for creating brand awareness with vlogging that will build a loyal community for years to come. This complete guide will show you how to: - overcome the 3 major fears that hold many people back from making videos - create your most engaging vlog every time with the Authority Video Formula - achieve your on-camera talent (and no, you don't need to be a natural!) - leverage the "secret" to video success that creates fans for life - and much more!

Video Planner Notepad – Listed Value $5.00

This is a helpful little item to help get you started. It contains about 20 pages, all the same, where you can identify your video objectives and plan out some of the main factors (timing, main points) and includes a handy checklist to make sure that you’ve done things like tested your audio, turned off your computer notifications, and silenced your phone.

Cell Phone Tripod Kit

Cell Phone Tripod Kit – Listed Value $20.00

This is such a handy little device! I couldn’t find this model online, nor really anything quite comparable, but there are plenty of different versions available to purchase. However, this one seems perfect for the casual or starter VLOGer. I loved the case (it says “I’m ready for my closeup”), the Teal/Black ombre color scheme, and the fact that it’s universal and can be used with almost any phone. Neat!

Boss Lady Earbuds – Listed Value $12.00

These are cute earbuds and feature an phone (pick up/hang up) button as well as volume controls. I love the "Boss Lady" saying on the bud itself and actually used these today while on a plane. The sound quality is what you’d expect from off-brand buds, certainly not BOSE quality but decent enough to use for casual purposes!

Earbuds Case

Earbuds Case – Listed Value $4.00

This is the perfect case to keep your cord untangled! It is black with a pink zipper, and as you can see from the pics that it’s the perfect size to keep these clean, tidy, and will slip easily into almost any bag!

Chocolate Chunk Cookies Go-Pak by Goodie Girl Cookies, 1 oz. – Listed Value $1 (Buy a 36-pack for $35.95)

Yum! These crunchy chocolate chip cookies are gluten free with no artificial anything! Each serving contains less than 1/3 of the sugar as one cup of a regular low fat (leading brand) yogurt! I really liked the texture, flavor, and frankly was annoyed I had to share them with my son.

The Verdict: This is my first box from Sparkle Hustle Grow and I thought that it was well thought out and very fun. I am not currently starting a business of my own, but I do work full time in the business world and appreciate learning some of these tips and tricks! I am a strong woman, and I love learning what other women are doing – thinking – and how they’re finding success. While I liked the theme, video blogging is a bit specific and I'd be more interested in seeing a more general, business-themed box in the future.

It’s a bit hard to gauge value because of the online portion of this box, and the fact that most of the items are exclusive to this company. Using listed retail values, you receive $155.99 worth of products (not counting the online community) for $45.99 ($39.99 + $6.00 shipping). That’s a savings of around 70%.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the August box.

Coupon - Use code MSA5 to save $5 off your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $45.99 for the box ($39.99 + $6.00 shipping), using listed retail values it’s like paying:

  • Online Course - $29.19
  • VLOG Book - $4.42
  • Notepad - $1.47
  • Tripod Kit - $5.90
  • Earbuds - $3.54
  • Earbud Case - $1.18
  • Cookies - $0.29

This really feels like a box geared for MLM sellers, not true female entrepreneurs. Given that the business model is already predatory, I’m not really surprised to see a subscription box aimed at that market.

Ugh. I am not a big fan of this whole “boss lady” “boss babe” “mom boss” trend. Would a man call himself a “boss man” or “dad boss”? I find the whole thing infantalizing and insulting.

Thank you!! I thought I was the only one so I’ve kept quiet about it but it grates on me like nothing else. We are not doing ourselves any favors. If you’re the boss, refer to yourself as such without modification.
