Snack Crate June 2018 Review
This box always greets you with a colorful card, and talks you through every snack to be found in the subscription! This month’s box is New Zealand, and I can’t wait to learn more about the area and its snacks.
There’s also an awesome bonus in each box: stickers! They’re always usually really funny; I’m partial to this month’s kiwi bird. So cute!
ETA Munchos Spicy Tomato
The first snack was a savory one! This corn snack had a nice acidic edge to its flavor from the tomato, and the texture had a nice puff to it. I didn’t necessarily taste tomato, but I thought the herbs were nice in this.
Whittakers Slab Peanut
I’m not a big chocolate person, and surprisingly, I like my desserts rich but not necessarily all that sweet. This bar was perfection - no-nonsense, no caramel, or nougat in the way - just chocolate-covered peanuts! It’s beautiful in its simplicity and the chocolate tastes high-quality. They don’t skimp on the nuts, either!
Wonka Fabulicious Sherbet Fizz
These raspberry candies were good, but boy, were they sweet! I enjoyed the flavor of the licorice, and normally licorice is not my thing. The filling was interesting - it’s described as a “yummy fizzy sherbet,” and while it wasn’t fizzy to me, it was creamy and maybe frothy? It definitely had that whole sugar-as-fruit thing going on, but sometimes there’s nothing wrong with a nice sweet fruit candy!
Cadbury Moro
This poor thing got a little gooey in transit! It was pretty good - the nougat was soft and the caramel was nice and sticky. I wasn’t totally crazy about the chocolate; maybe my American palette doesn’t work well with Cadbury? Haha! I liked it, but man, after having that chocolatey peanut heaven in the Whittakers bar, this definitely paled in comparison.
Pascall Milkshakes
I was really happy to see a vanilla candy this month! I really liked the texture of these; they were soft and rich, and they’re apparently made with real milk. They reminded me a little bit of vanilla Tootsie rolls, but not as sweet and not as strong. They were really satisfying for just a small bite of something sweet!
ETA Ripple Cut Chicken
Not veggie-friendly, these chips! Made from potatoes grown in New Zealand, these are beautifully savory, and really taste like chicken! They don’t taste like ramen, but they remind me of how that dust can definitely taste like meat even though there isn’t any protein in sight. I had absolutely no expectations with these chips, and they ended up being my favorite item in the box.
Verdict: I loved tasting New Zealand this month! I thought I received a really nice variety of snacks, and while they were familiar flavors, they were utilized in interesting ways. I adored the peanut bar, aka the perfect dessert, I really liked the milkshake candies, and friends - those chicken chips! I liked all the textures and all the snacks were something I know I’ll enjoy again. This box was just plain fun!
