RescueBox "Relaxation" June 2018 Review

This box is pretty reliably holiday-themed in months where there is a major holiday occurring, but they opted for a non-holiday theme this month:

There was no booklet this month, but we did get an email with an image of what the booklet would’ve shown.

Rescue Box June 2018 Ad 1 Rescue Box June 2018 Ad 2

There was an ad for Embrace pet health insurance. I’m pretty sure this company would take a look at my houseful of animals with preexisting conditions and run screaming in the other direction (or refuse to answer my phone calls at least).

Rescue Box June 2018 Bone

Don’t 4Get About Me Peanut Butter and Banana Crunch with Flaxseed, 3 oz – Listed Value $6.99

This is from a really small company near Branson, MO. They don’t have an online store, but if you really like something they sell, they take phone orders. (Or they have a retail store if you are in the area.) This is made in the USA and free of corn and soy (unfortunately, there is wheat). The email from RescueBox said “mystery treat” but I don’t know if that means people could’ve received different items or if they just didn’t find out what they would be getting until the last minute.

Rescue Box June 2018 Fish

Icelandic Plus Capelin Pure Fish Treats for Dogs, 2.5 oz – Retail Value $12.99

Gross, gross, gross, these are WHOLE FISH. These are air-dried and contain a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids, which definitely will help your dog’s skin and coat. These are capelin fish, which I’ve never heard of, but they don’t appear to be closely related to any of the common fish found in pet foods (whitefish, salmon, etc.). So these might work as a novel protein for Nyx. I had just given her some treats from another box when I received this, and she definitely cannot handle two new treats in the same 3-4 day period, so I am holding off on opening these for now, but I think I will let her try at least a piece of one. I am certain she will eat it because she will eat just about anything since she is on prednisone.

Rescue Box June 2018 Plush

Aromadog Fleece Flattie – Retail Value $14.99

This is a stuffing-free plush. What is supposed to happen is calming smells released when your dog chews on the squeaker. I didn’t notice any scent but I guess Nyx has a better nose than I do. Anyway, she seems to like it and she hasn’t destroyed it yet (she is almost six, perhaps she is mellowing out as she gets older?).

Rescue Box June 2018 Square

Heavenly Hounds Relaxation Square – Listed Value $5.99 (buy a 3-pack for $17.99)

I also received one of these in Pet Treater this month. These have some calming herbs that you might find in herbal teas for people that are supposed to be calming (e.g., passion flower, valerian). Unfortunately, they contain both wheat and barley, though they are free of meat-based proteins. I do think this is a good idea for a box that comes right before the 4th of July, as that is a stressful time for a lot of dogs. Luckily, there are several dogs up and down my street who will be able to appreciate this (and it can be broken up into smaller pieces for smaller dogs).

Rescue Box June 2018 Toy

Caitec Amazing Squeaker Ball – Retail Value $7.98

Anything squeaky is great for Nyx. This actually makes different sounds depending on how it is squeezed so she is fascinated. I do think the material it is made from is a little soft and may not last forever, but so far it is all in one piece.

Rescue Box June 2018 Nyx 1 Rescue Box June 2018 Nyx 2 Rescue Box June 2018 Nyx 3 Rescue Box June 2018 Nyx 4 Rescue Box June 2018 Nyx 5

Here are some pictures of Nyx with the plush toy.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $48.94 for June’s Rescue Box; I had to use a few values from the information card, but not many. At any rate, that is more than $10 over the cost of the box for all-new items that are still in production. I also thought the box contents did a pretty good job of sticking to the theme of reducing anxiety (although I don’t know, that ball probably induced some anxiety in me as I had to hear it squeaking non-stop – but Nyx had a good time) and I think that is a great theme as we head into a holiday week where there will be lots of loud sounds.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would be July.

LIMITED TIME DEAL: Use coupon code GREATDEAL to save 15% off any length subscription! Or, use coupon code FREEISGOOD to get a FREE Deluxe Mystery Box with your first RescueBox when you sign up for a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription! (Regularly $29.95 per month)

Value Breakdown: At a box price of $29.95, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Peanut Butter Cookie: $4.28
  • Fish Treats: $7.95
  • Fleece Toy: $9.17
  • Relaxation Square: $3.67
  • Squeaky Ball Toy: $4.88
