RescueBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). They are associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more), and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

RescueBox "Hello Summer" July 2018 Review

This box is pretty reliably holiday-themed in months where there is a major holiday occurring, but they opted for a non-holiday theme this month:

Rescue Box July 2018 Booklet Front Rescue Box July 2018 Booklet Back

This month, we were back to having a physical information card. It always shows a story of an animal helped by Rescue Box charity efforts on one side and gives a list of items in the box on the other side.

Rescue Box July 2018 Towel 1 Rescue Box July 2018 Towel 2

Cool Pup Cooling Towel – Retail Value $8.75 (found here for $4.75, currently out of stock)

A few years ago, a lot of these were going around in dog subscription boxes, but I haven’t seen one for a while. At any rate, Nyx is a big, black dog who doesn’t like the heat. We don’t walk far due to some ligament issues in her knees (she’s fine as long as she doesn’t overuse her legs) but the heat still gets to her. It is in the 90s almost every day here! This thing is really weird, it even felt cool to the touch right after I took it out of the bag. So I guess I would say it works, and we will use it after walks on hot days.

Rescue Box July 2018 Bacon Treats

Bacon’d Strips by Pet ‘n Shape (6 oz) – Estimated Value $8 (buy 2 bags here for $14.79)

These are free of wheat, corn, and soy, and the only preservatives are natural (i.e., vitamin E, rosemary extract). They are made in the USA, too. They are soft(ish) and can be broken into smaller chunks for smaller dogs, but a treat this size is suitable for a large breed dog (and safe, as they are a composite material rather than being a jerky- or hide-style chew).

Rescue Box July 2018 Bacon Toy

Bacon Toy by Cash and Coop – Listed Value $12.99

This is a plush-style toy with crinkle material inside and no squeaker. It is still a little bit loud because of the crinkles (Nyx was really going after it, trying to find a squeaker, because that’s what she does). It seems pretty sturdy. I don’t know if it’s because “Cash and Coop” is a name with common words or because this brand doesn’t have an online presence, but I had to use the value from the information card because I can’t find this online anywhere.

Rescue Box July 2018 Watermelon 1 Rescue Box July 2018 Watermelon 2

Watermelon Toy by Cash and Coop – Listed Value $12.99

Here is another toy from the same brand. I am cool with getting two toys from the same brand if they are durable, which these seem to be, especially for plushes. This is also a crinkle toy with no squeaker. I think the little seed in the pocket is particularly cute, although I did remove this before giving to Nyx, as she would just eat it.

Rescue Box July 2018 Venison

Rescue Box Venison Mini Sticks – Retail Value $7

We have received this treat once before in Rescue Box, but it was a long time ago. I don’t even mind getting it again because it doesn’t seem to aggravate Nyx’s IBD in small quantities (it does have some rice flour in it). She was very excited to get one of these, as you can see below.

Here are some pictures of Nyx with the watermelon toy, and a bonus of her anticipating one of the venison sticks.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $49.73 for July’s Rescue Box; I had to use a few values from the information card, but not many. At any rate, that is about $20 over the cost of the box, which is pretty good, especially when there is a treat Nyx can have. The toys seemed durable, too.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would be August.

LIMITED TIME DEAL: Use coupon code GREATDEAL to save 15% off any length subscription! Or, use coupon code FREEISGOOD to get a FREE Deluxe Mystery Box with your first RescueBox when you sign up for a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription! (Regularly $29.95 per month)

Value Breakdown: At a box price of $29.95, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Towel: $5.27
  • Bacon Treats: $4.82
  • Bacon Toy: $7.82
  • Watermelon Toy: $7.82
  • Venison Treats: $4.22

Just FYI, I think the $1 box is not going to have the same contents as the monthly subscription box, it is more of a promotional offer.
