Lillypost is a monthly children’s book subscription! They offer three subscription options: The Picture Book Box that includes 3 books for ages 4-7, The Board Book Box that includes 3 books for ages 0-3, or the Mixed Book Box that includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages. From Lillypost:

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book box for $19.99 a month. This option includes both board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

Lillypost June 2018 Wrapped Books

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Lillypost June 2018 Review

Lillypost June 2018 Insert Lillypost June 2018 Contest

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their new coloring contests. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is On the Farm and I love that they included some fun facts too!

A Day at the Beach: A 123s Book by Sterling Children's Books

Lillypost June 2018 Beach Back

A Day at the Beach: A 123s Book by Sterling Children's Books - Retail Value $6.95

I love that we received this book just in time to take it on our beach trip next month! This will be great for teaching counting skills to my 2-year-old (who I just realized today already knows how to count to 10) and for reinforcing counting skills for my 3.5-year-old since it goes all the way to 20, which she has some trouble with.

I love the bright colors and the beach theme is really fun with lots of different objects for them to count.

Lillypost June 2018 Dog Front A Dog Wearing Shoes by Sangmi Ko

A Dog Wearing Shoes by Sangmi Ko - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $13.56)

This book is about a girl who finds a little dog wearing shoes. She takes him home and takes care of him until she realizes that he must be missing his family. The story itself is cute and easy for a child to relate to- who wouldn't want to take home a cute pup, especially one wearing shoes?

While the story was fairly simple, what I really loved about this book were the illustrations. It is entirely in gray-scale with just a few pops of bright colors, but the detail in these illustrations is amazing! The hatching and shading make it so interesting and it is such a different style of artwork for a children's book.

Duncan the Story Dragon by Amanda Driscoll

Lillypost June 2018 Dragon Back

Duncan the Story Dragon by Amanda Driscoll - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $6.39)

Isn't this just the cutest, little sad dragon that you've ever seen? This was a sweet story about a dragon who loved to read books but could never finish a book because in his excitement he would burn the book up with his own fire-breathing. He tries to cool himself down, but when that doesn't work, he sets off in search of a friend who can read to him instead. He doesn't have much luck until he meets a little mouse with whom he embarks on many literary adventures.

The illustrations are incredibly cute and I love how much you could see the emotion of each character, like the dragon's sadness and the possum's fear. This was a great story that my 2 and 3-year-olds really enjoyed reading!

Verdict: I thought this Lillypost box was a great mix of books. My kids both really enjoyed reading them and the characters and subject matter were appealing to them. I really enjoyed the illustrations in both picture books, even though they were completely different from one another. I also loved the board book that we got and how perfect it is for an educational summer read for young children!

The total retail value of the books came to $40.93 (less with sale prices), and the cost of the box was $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping). That's a great value for the books we received this month!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
