Dia & Co. is a monthly plus size clothing subscription box that is personally curated for you by a Dia stylist. Upon enrolling with Dia, I filled out an extensive survey asking me about my clothing size/weight/height, price range, and also my style likes and dislikes. Every month my stylist selects five pieces that could be clothes or accessories to try out. If I like them, I have the option of buying them. There is a $20 per month service fee, but the fee can be applied to any purchases I opt to make. A 20% discount is applied if I choose to keep all five pieces too!

The items in my box are chosen personally for me dependent and reflective of my style and price preference, so the package you receive from Dia & Co. may be entirely different than mine!

Dia & Co. June 2018 Review

Here is that fashionable Dia & Co envelope I look forward to seeing every month!

Also enclosed in this precious envelope is a note from my stylist, Natalie, telling me why she selected the pieces she did for me along with some helpful styling tips.

The other form is an invoice that has a detailed list of the brand, name, color, size, and price of each item she selected for me along with the grand total after the styling fee and 25% off ( if I opt to keep all five items) is applied. The savings would be $106.75 if I did decide to keep everything! That isn’t too shabby! That would be like getting the East Adeline top and Morgan and Walker skirt almost for free!

Malia Short Sleeve Ruffle Peplum Tee by East Adeline Size 2x

Malia Short Sleeve Ruffle Peplum Tee by East Adeline, Size 2x—Retail Value $55

I generally love items by the East Adeline brand, but this top was very blah to me. I know I have complained about it in previous reviews, but I don’t understand the unnecessary ruffles trend. Sure, I like ruffles at instances, but I truly don’t understand the strange placement of theme on this particular shirt. I have them on the front and back and then a dang peplum ruffle? The fabric has some stretch to it, but the ruffles are made of a gauze-like fabric. This top felt boxy on me, especially styled with the skirt my stylist, Natalie, also selected for me.

Since I disliked the top paired with the skirt, I opted to show it as well with a more fitted bottom. The black leggings made this top far more tolerable for me, but not to the point that I would add it to my closet. Just because this wasn’t my bag, doesn’t mean it can’t be yours! I would suggest wearing these with a fitted bottom if you are more hourglass or boxy shaped like me. Pair with some summer platforms to elongate the legs and to amp the sass as well!

Samana Embroidered Denim Skirt by Morgan and Walker, Size 22

Samana Embroidered Denim Skirt by Morgan and Walker, Size 22—Retail Value $59

Dia & Co has sent me a lot of embroidered denim pieces the last few months, especially back in March. Yet, here we are, with another embroidered denim piece. This skirt is simply not my style. I prefer a darker rinse and I just feel that the embroidered portion makes this look a tad dated. However, the fabric has great stretch and the skirt itself fits great. This skirt would look great with strappy black chunky heels and a black ¾ length sleeve boat neck style top. Add silver accessories and over-sized sunglasses to complement the blues in the skirt.

Karina Flutter Sleeve Jacket by B.Curvy, Size 2x—Retail Value $85

“Why?” is what I said out loud when I saw this jacket. I am not sure why my stylist felt this was something that fit in with my style profile. I am still flabbergasted weeks later. I try to be open to every piece I receive because I have been surprised and purchased pieces I would never have envisioned for myself. This piece is not one of them. I prefer fitted, body-hugging jackets and this one is rather baggy and loose. The fabric is rather soft, though, and lightweight for cooler summer nights. I just was out in the Bay Area and one could easily wear this in San Francisco in the daytime, but not here in my swelteringly hot city. I can see why she included the jacket because it does pair well with the Daniel Rainn blouse and Warp + Weft jeans, but I don’t think she had me in mind when styling. This jacket just wasn’t meant for me.

Riri Pleated Front Woven Blouse by Daniel Rainn, Size 2x

Riri Pleated Front Woven Blouse by Daniel Rainn, Size 2x—Retail Value $69

This top along with the jeans are my favorite items sent in my June box. That being said, I still felt the color palette was far too muted for my tastes. The pattern is sort of like a geometric southwest style. The top is a bit long in length on my frame, so I prefer it being tucked in. The fabric is light, so this can easily be worn in our humid, muggy weather. This piece will look great with a tan mini skirt, black tights, booties, and a black cardigan in the fall months.

Orchard Skinny Jean by Warp + Weft, Size 22—Retail Value $79

I have received several pairs of Warp + Weft jeans over the last year in subscription boxes and I am always impressed with their fit. This pair fit fantastically and had just the right amount of stretch. I also like the darker blue wash on these. I wasn’t keen on the distressed details and the hole in the knee, though. My work has a dress code that allows jeans, but they can’t have rips and tears in them. I would not be able to get enough wear of these pants to justify keeping them, ultimately.

Verdict: Sad to say, but after having such an amazing Dia & Co Box last month, June’s box fell short and was a bit disappointing. The pieces were high quality and generally fit well, but most of this box felt as though it was selected with another person in mind. I truly felt this month would be on the upswing after such a fantastic box last month, but there were only two pieces I liked—but not enough to keep. I appreciate my stylist listening to me regarding my size profile adjustments, but otherwise, I didn’t feel heard and definitely provided honest feedback upon returning these selections. I hope next month feels more personalized to my wild and retro style preferences. Fingers crossed!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Dia & Co curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box has a $20 styling fee and includes free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $347. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep at least 5 items, I get a 25% discount. The $20.00 styling fee for the box would also be applied to the purchase, meaning I’d end up spending $240.25 for the whole box. Ultimately, that is roughly a 30% discount.

Hi Nicole! I am looking to have just one plus size clothing sub, currently I’m using Stitch Fix- can you please tell me how you think Stitch Fix Plus and Dia & Co compare? I would really appreciate more info on how you think their styling, sizing, selection and overall value stack up. Thanks!!

Pretty sure I had a pair of denim shorts with the same embroidery and wash as that skirt back in the 90s! Very dated.

Ali, yeah, I felt like when I worked at Torrid in the early 2000s we had lots of pieces like that! Everything comes back, I guess.

Love your clothing reviews! you look good in everything! Have you been hitting the gym?

Mariek

Meant to say it as, you’re looking smaller and great!

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Mariek! Nah! No gym. Though I wanna hit it so I can get stronger!

I also really liked the jacket on you! For the first top, I’ve tried shirts with similar ruffle placement, and I think they’re just not meant for anyone with boobs (I’m a 34D)–it just ends up looking strange. The ones on the back remind me a bit of wings!

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Jill! Yeah, I mean I don’t hate ruffles, but that was an excess of ruffles in weird spots. I just wasn’t feeling it. I would like less ruffles next month. I am ruffled out. Haha

I LOVE the jacket on you!!! I glanced through the pictures really fast just to see what was included… as I scrolled past the jacket, I thought ‘wow, she looks fab in that’! After looking through everything, I went back to read about the jacket because I loved it on you so much. I was shocked to see you didn’t really like it. Just thought I’d share…lol… Happy 7/11!

Awe thanks, Lisa! If you have Dia and Co you should definitely reference this review to your stylist so they can hook you up! Happy 7/11 day to you too!

Gorgeous, as always! The shirt and jacket, however, I happen to think look fabulous on you, if everything else is fitted. The ruffles. If one steps back and looks at the placement of those ruffles, it gives a great visual illusion and makes the eye see a thinner shape. That is important for many plus sized women. The jacket, probably because it is soft and I think the details are fabulous for the price point. I got very sick and lost 75 lbs. I learned a lot about tricks and how amazing just lowering or angling pockets can make a woman look thinner. I know that you already know this, too, but some might now be aware of how important it is to be open to giving every piece of clothing a chance. If it’s not too late, I think you should re-consider that ruffle top and jacket. I found both of those to be the most flattering and the colors perfect for your skin and hair tones. I really do think your stylist took you into consideration. I wouldn’t mind finally considering this subscription after seeing those two items. Do they only do plus sized or do they do all sizes?

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Plus, I am not concerned with looking thinner tbh. I wore things snug seventy pounds ago and wear them snugger now too. I just have a certain fit preference and style I gravitate to ultimately. But I do appreciate you taking the time to read my review and comment, h! It means a lot.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, h. Those pieces are great, but just not for me. They may look good on, but it doesn’t fit my taste and I don’t feel comfortable in them ultimately. Not necessarily my aesthetic. But I appreciate the kind words! And I totally agree it is imperative to try things on and be open because you may find your dream piece for sure.

Dia & Co is strictly plus size, but some of the other boxes I review like Gwynnie Bee, Stitch Fix, and Trunk Club style straight and plus sizes!

Being comfortable is the most important thing. In the past two years I have lost 120 lbs on my own just cutting back. I am down to a 24w from Macy’s and 22-24 from lane bryant shirts and 24w in pants. How does gwinnie bee size things in comparison because everything is so different? I wear baggy but seeing you and how great you look (i love your style) makes me want to do a little more fitted. I am just so used to hiding everything.
