Degustabox July 2018 Review

Info sheet

Degustabox always has a really nice info sheet that goes over each item included in the box with their retail values.

recipe for sweet n spicy bison balls

The content on the back changes from month to month, but has included a recipe for Uncle Dougie's Gluten Free Sweet n' Spicy Bison Balls using the BBQ sauce included.

Lee Kum Kee Plum Sauce open Lee Kum Kee Plum Sauce

Lee Kum Kee Plum Sauce, 9.2 oz. - Retail Value $3.59

I'm not a big fan of plum sauce since it's on the sweet side of things but to be used for savory items (like chicken). I'll probably pass this on to a friend who enjoys the sweet & savory mixture of flavors more than I do.

Loacker Cocoa & Milk Wafers Loacker Cocoa & Milk Wafers on plate

Loacker Cocoa & Milk Wafers, 1.59 oz. x 2 - Buy a case of 12 for $17.99

Oh yeah, baby! I normally consume these in their bite-size form that comes in a little bag, but these will do nicely as well. I immediately gobbled up one whole pack when photographing these and they were to die for! I can't recall if I've had this specific flavor before and my previous favorite was the hazelnut variation. These cocoa & milk ones give those a run for their money! So crispy and delicious! I can't wait to dive into the second package.

Box of Aiya Matcha Powder back of Box of Aiya Matcha Powder individually wrappe Aiya Matcha Powder Aiya Matcha Powder on plate

Aiya Matcha Zen Cafe Blend, 12 15g packets - Retail Value $17.80

My expectations here were quite low even though I am obsessed with matcha flavored anything. I just wasn't sure if these packets would be as good as the latte's I've had. I noticed they have a quick recipe to make an iced latte which I opted for since it's been so darn hot lately. All I had to do was shake up 6 ounces of milk (I used whole) with one packet in a jar of ice and voila: the perfect iced latte! It was nice and frothy at the top and sooooo creamy! What a delicious treat! Highly recommended and perhaps a new staple for me!

They also sent an info card with a recipe to make a MATCHA MILKSHAKE, y'all!! Dreamy.

Uncle Dougie's Sweet n Snappy BBQ sauce

Uncle Dougie's Sweet n' Snappy BBQ Sauce, 18 oz. - Retail Value $5.99

I don't normally go for sweet BBQ sauce, but I had a little taste of this one and it has a sweet lil zip to it with some spice at the end. I'm a huge fan of pulled pork and this would make an excellent sauce for that. Oh, and this all-natural sauce won an American Royal World Series of BBQ in Kansas City. Now I know what I'm making next week!

Here's a card with all their info on it.

Sir Kensington's Chipotle Mayonnaise

Sir Kensington's Chipotle Mayonnaise, 12 oz. - Retail Value $4.95

Another condiment featured this month is from a brand favorite of Degustabox, Sir Kensington. This chipotle mayo sounds amazing, and once I tried it I knew it for sure! I love dipping fries into chipotle mayo at some of my favorite places to eat and now I can do it at home too! I also have a feeling that this would be super dope in potato salad! It's zesty without being overly spicy.

Wise Snacks Cheez Doodles x 4 Wise Snacks Cheez Doodles on plate

Wise Extra Cheesy Cheez Doodles, 1 oz. x 4

At first, I was like "Why four bags? What if I don't like these?". But now I get it - these are the cheesiest of doodles I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I'm glad they sent four 1 oz bags instead of a larger full-size one because I would have polished them off in one sitting. This way, there is some portion control. Beware though, you WILL be caught orange-handed when eating these. I'm not seeing these exact variation online anywhere, so perhaps they are new?

Chomps Free Range Turkey Snack Stick back of Chomps Free Range Turkey Snack Stick

Chomps Free Range Turkey Snack Stick, 1.15 oz. - Buy a 5 pack for $11.25

It's always a pleasure to see some form of jerky in the box. This month offers a single stick of free-range turkey from Chomps. It has a really nice texture that isn't too squishy (like some other brands) and has a mellow flavor with a hint of black pepper. Snacks like these are perfect to bring on hikes or outdoor jaunts this summer to keep you energized! Yum- I would definitely go for these when choosing a meat stick.

bag of Goetze's Candy Co Chocolate Caramel Creams Goetze's Candy Co Chocolate Caramel Creams pouring out of bag Goetze's Candy Co Chocolate Caramel Cream on plate

Goetze's Candy Co Chocolate Caramel Creams, 10 oz. - Listed Retail Value $2.48

This particular flavor and/or size is exclusive to Walmart and I don't see it available on their site, so if you like them it looks like you'll have to go to the store to grab more. They've sent a healthy 10 oz bag full of individually wrapped candies so you can toss a couple in your bag for a lil sweet treat later. I probably don't ever choose to buy a candy like this (caramel or the chocolate variety) but when I eat one, I really do enjoy it. They're super soft and tasty like a Tootsie roll but with a cream center.

Goetze's Candy Co Chocolate Caramel Creams info card

And the info card.

Verdict: Degustabox was a little light this month, but after a staple-heavy box for me last month I'm okay with it. They didn't contain much to make a full meal of and it mostly consisted of condiments and snacks. The big winners for me are the matcha packets, chipotle mayo, and cocoa wafers. I will use the other items but most likely share some of them too.

I love the Loacker brand of all that I have tried. I live in a small town in the South and there is not a large selection of Loacker products. Guess will have to order online. I do not subscribe to this box as there are too many spicy hot items which I cannot eat and do not like.

This box was just ok for us. My kids always love the snacks and sweets. We can always use sauces. I’d much rather have these things than the pasta or beans sent in previous boxes. The big miss for me is the matcha drink. It must be an acquired taste. I hate anything matcha.

Yup, me too. Very disappointed in this box. I think I am done.

This was my “I’ll give it one more month try” box…Sadly this box was another bad one, will have to cancel. I apparently unlike others don’t mind the treats, candy in the boxes, fun to have on hand for kids treats. But the last several months have been going down hill and not any kind of value. In this last one,I find Matcha tea to be an acquired taste, not mine and to have the majority of this box’s value that, is nuts. Also what’s up with ALL the Goya products, note those are cheap at Walmart.

I cancelled too after 1 and a half years. They just seem to be going further and further down hill.

Sadly I cancelled my subscription after this box. I’ve been with them over a year and a half. I was just tired of repeat items and items I’ll never use (plum sauce, matcha tea) and candy which I’m trying to eliminate from my diet. Loved the sir Kensington but other than that I have felt the boxes have not been the same the past few months.

I cancelled also…I have not seen the value of 20.00 dollars in these boxes it seems over the last 6 months…Just used my points for this one as a free box and I cancelled. ‘Tis a pity…

I cancelled too. Sad because I am a big fan of trying new things but I was VALUE if I am subbing blindly. The value wasn’t here. I liked the sir Kensington and the matcha but the rest was just ok and definitely not worth more than the price of the box. Too bad.

I did the same; canceled mine over a year ago after only 2-3 boxes. I wasn’t impressed and got stuff we’d never use. I threw away most. This box isn’t impressive at all. I don’t get why they can’t have a better variety in their boxes.
