Bariatric Pal June 2018 Review

This box came with a very detailed info sheet with more information about the products.

The nutrition facts and cooking instructions for the oatmeal and pasta were on the back of the info sheet.

They also included this card with ideas on how to use everything in the box to make a full day’s meals.

Legendary Foods Seasoned Almonds in Cheddar Bacon, 1.5 oz – Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.74)

Legendary Foods Seasoned Almonds in Tangy Ranch, 1.5 oz – Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.74)

Oh, baby were these almonds good! The size made them perfect for throwing in my purse and they were an awesome mid-morning snack. These almonds are low-carb and have no added sugar, but they didn't sacrifice flavor at ALL. The cheddar bacon almonds reminded me of potato skins (one of my favorite appetizers), and the tangy ranch tasted zesty and full of herbs. I actually think the ranch ones were my favorite, but I already reordered the mix pack containing these flavors and two others from Legendary Foods (wasabi soy sauce and buffalo blue!). The almonds themselves were great- not too hard, not stale at all. Two thumbs up on these.

Smart Baking Smartcakes in Chocolate, 2 cakes - Estimated Value $4.50 (buy 4 cakes for $8.99)

Smart Baking Smartcakes in Cinnamon2 cakes - Estimated Value $4.50 (buy 4 cakes for $8.99)

Look, Y'all. I have a big sweet tooth and I love cake. These are not cakes, they are muffins, but they are pretty good for having zero net carbs, 38 calories, and 4 grams of protein! The overall texture was light and airy, though there was a tiny bit of a powdery taste at the end. These “cakes” did have appropriate moistness so they didn’t taste too dry, and these would go great with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning (which is how I enjoyed them). The cinnamon reminded me of coffee cake and the chocolate reminded me of, well, chocolate!

Cello Whisps Cheese Crisps in Cheddar, 2.12 oz. – Retail Value $3.99

Cello Whisps Cheese Crisps in Tomato Basil, 2.12 oz. – Retail Value $3.99

Score! I have seen these whisps in other subscription boxes, and I am excited to get TWO bags of these bad boys. A serving of these has zero sugar and 12 grams of protein, and they are a great cracker or crouton replacement. I really want to have a bowl of tomato soup with the tomato basil whisps on top, because the savory flavors would complement each other well.

Bariatric Pal Hot Protein Breakfast in Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal, 2 packs

Bariatric Pal Hot Protein Breakfast in Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal, 2 packs - Buy a box of 7 for $13.49

Oatmeal is one of those things I don't crave but I don't hate it—but usually, I need tons of sugar to make it palatable. What I liked about this oatmeal is that the sweetness level was appropriate enough for me to not need to add more, but each oatmeal is only 100 calories and has 14 grams of protein! Like most oatmeal, it wasn't the most appetizing looking when it was cooked, and I did think the texture was a tiny bit gummy. As someone who doesn't eat breakfast, though, this can be made quickly and eaten fast while still fueling your body. The price per serving may seem high compared how cheap uncooked oats are, but I can promise you if I made oatmeal on my own it would not be as low calorie, low carb, high protein as this oatmeal is.

Bariatric Pal 15 g Protein Shot Mix Variety Pack, 4 bottles – Retail Value $11.99 (found here for $9.99)

I have struggled to add more protein into my diet, but I have yet to find a protein drink that I like the taste of. These protein shots are PERFECT because each bottle is only 2.5 oz, which means I had this swallowed in two and a half gulps! The flavor wasn't fantastic—think crystal light meets cough syrup. BUT—the flavor is so worth it considering I don't have to drink 8-16 ounces of it compared to every other protein drink I have tried. The only thing holding me back from buying more right now is the price, but I will probably order more in the future regardless.

Chomps Meat Snack Stick in Original Beef - Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.49)

Chomps Meat Snack Stick in Crackin’ Cran - Retail Value $2.49

I recently saw this brand in Marne’s July Degustabox, so I thought it was neat to see them here too. This is awesome because nitrate free (ignoring the celery juice and salt) and made from grass-fed beef! I am, unfortunately, really not a meat stick person. Luckily I have a friend who was more than willing to be a taste tester! She tried the Crackin’ Cran, which is habanero and cranberry flavored. She said the flavor was great, but the texture of the meat stick was a bit too mushy for her liking. Just hearing that description solidified that I was not putting the original beef flavored one in my mouth, so I will be mailing it to my mom who had actually asked for grass-fed beef and nitrate free jerky and meat sticks for her birthday!

Bariatric Pal Protein Pasta Entrée in Fettuccini Alfredo and Creamy Chicken Pasta, 2 packs – Buy a pack of 3 for $13.49

These pasta entrees are great low-calorie options when you are craving pasta but want to stick with your diet. Each entrée is 220 calories or less, and the protein for each dish is 12 and 14 grams, respectively. I made the creamy chicken pasta and I was impressed with the overall flavor—it won't win any Italian awards but it was 1) creamy 2) pasta and 3) pretty yummy. If I was craving pasta, this would be a great option. The fact that they are made in the microwave means this would be super easy to pack and take to work for lunch as well! I thought the taste of the creamy chicken pasta was like a savory chicken noodle soup with a big dollop of sour cream mixed in (which is something I personally was digging) with no weird protein aftertaste, either. I made it for dinner after a long day of work and school, and I plated it with balsamic green beans and some toasted baguette to sop up the sauce.

I was actually pretty pleased with how well-rounded the dish looked, and I thought the pasta serving was generous considering the low calories. This satisfied me and I wasn't left still hungry, and the single-serve packaging means that you're not going to overeat. I am happy to have the fettuccine alfredo to store in my pantry for the next time I need a quick dinner!

Verdict: Personally, this box wowed me. I thought this box really showed that there are diet-friendly options that don’t taste awful, and this subscription is a great way to be able to try a variety of products without committing to buying the larger versions and potentially being out a lot of money when you realize you don’t like it. This box promises at least a value of $50, and the June box came in at an estimated $55.17. I think that’s a great value, and I am honestly really happy with everything about this box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, but I think you can get the July box! Boxes ship around the 24th of each month.

As someone who has Bariatric surgery, I love bariatric pal. They have a great selection and samplers for their own products (like protein hot chocolate). But Some of the things like protein chicken broth aren’t going to appeal to most dieters. The liquid protein shots are good if you can only drink like 4oz of liquid at a time. They also have a great reward system so you can get a lot of products a lot cheaper.

Hi Mandy!
I haven’t had the surgery— this box is for both patients and people who are trying to follow a low carb, high protein diet!

These snacks actually look pretty tasty! The name of the box kinda discourages me from ordering it. But maybe I’ll try it out if they have a good coupon at some point.
