All Around Vegan July 2018 Review

All Around Vegan is a fairly new box for me. Let’s see what they sent this month:

There was a standard information card with more details about the items in the box, including how they fit the categories nutrition, lifestyle, bath/body, and activism.

Mylk Labs Roasted Almond and Himalayan Pink Salt Oatmeal (1.88 oz) – Buy 6 Cups for $23.99

This is a new brand for me. I eat oatmeal on weekend mornings so that I have something in my stomach and don’t get dizzy from taking my blood pressure medicine. This is a bit higher in calories (at 230) than I would normally eat (I aim for 150 or so) but I feel the amount of food you get for that calorie number is not bad. And there are actual almond pieces that you can see, in a reasonable amount (but sliced in a way that works with the oatmeal texture). I think I wish this had been a little bit sweeter but you can remedy that on your own with your sweetener of choice.

Mylk Labs Toasted Coconut and Cassia Cinnamon Oatmeal (1.88 oz)

Mylk Labs Toasted Coconut and Cassia Cinnamon Oatmeal (1.88 oz) – Buy 6 Cups for $23.99

I let my husband try this one. He was pretty enthusiastic about it, actually. We both liked the directions to pour hot water until just over the oats instead of trying to find some hard-to-see arbitrary fill line that most other oatmeal cups seem to have. I do think that around $4 per cup is a bit pricey for oatmeal, though.

Skinny Pop Popcorn (0.65 oz) – Buy 4.4 oz for $3.29 (found here for $3)

This was listed as a bonus item. It is something I’ve had from a few food subscription boxes in the past. It is pretty plain but has a decent texture for bagged popcorn. The calories are pretty low, just 100 in the whole bag.

Rawrev Organic Golden Cashew Bar (1.8 oz)

Rawrev Organic Golden Cashew Bar (1.8 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $21.99

Ah, Rawrev bars. I lived on these for a month or so last summer (in the previous packaging, although I think the product is basically the same in a new wrapper) after I had oral surgery. I cut them into tiny pieces and placed them in the back of my mouth where I could chew without biting (the oral surgery was in the front of my mouth). So anyway, I got a little sick of them after that, but it’s been enough time, I guess, that I’m happy to see them again. This has 260 calories, which at first seems like a lot until you realize that’s pretty reasonable for something made up pretty much only of nuts and nut butter. If you are a fan of cashews, you should like this, as the cashew flavor is definitely pretty strong.

Forest Nymphs Soap in “Aqua” – Retail Value $8

I have been getting a lot of handmade soap in subscription boxes lately but it is something I do use, so that is fine. This is the only bath and body item in this box for the month. It has a lovely (if strong) scent and I find it quite pretty to look at (hopefully I captured some of that with the second picture). The packaging is cardboard and recyclable, which is a nice touch. I put this one in a dish near my sink for hand washing since I have a half used handmade soap in the shower already. It rinses off cleanly and hasn’t irritated my skin (and I have sensitive skin) so that is nice.

Pig Print from George Dyachenko

Pig Print from George Dyachenko – Retail Value $10

This is adorable. It’s one of my favorite prints from a subscription box, actually. I much prefer art to words/sayings, to be honest. Also I have been seeing a lot of great artists on Etsy lately but wondering about the quality of the prints they send out, so actually having one in hand to examine is great (I can’t speak for all the artists there but this one is printed on very nice, thick cardstock and seems very sturdy).

There was also a business card for the artist.

Vegan Emoji Cap

Vegan Emoji Cap – Retail Value $16.95

This is soft and made from high-quality materials with machine embroidered details (it’s no quickie print job on cheap stock as some subscription box caps are). It is subtle, too, in its message, which is great for folks who are non-confrontational and/or shy. The light color is good for staying cool in the heat, too.

20 “Vegan Option” Cards for Restaurants

This is the activism item for the month. I think this is going to be better-received than some of the items in past months because it doesn’t involve vandalism (e.g., sticking stickers on stop signs or grocery store items) and it can be used without calling undue attention to yourself, but can still get your message across. These are cards designed to be left at restaurants asking for more vegan options to be added to the menu. I think these will probably work best at non-chain restaurants (since the menu is not usually locally-determined at chains) but I’m not sure of the best person to hand it to (leaving it on the table may lead to it getting thrown out with used napkins and such).

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for All Around Vegan this month because some of the items were not available for individual purchase. This subscription costs $42.45 (with shipping), and the MSRP of the print, soap, and cap together is $34.95, which leaves about $7.50 in value to be distributed among the snacks and the “vegan option” cards. So I think you are getting your money’s worth this month. Although some of the snacks were familiar, Mylk Labs and Forest Nymphs were new brands to me, and I think the print is super cute.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now, you’ll get the August box (ships June 1st) as your first box.

Value Breakdown: At $42.45 for this box (subscription cost plus shipping), the total MSRP for the print, soap, and cap is $34.95, leaving about $7.50 for the snacks and “vegan option” cards.
