Whiskerbox June 2018 Review

One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else! Let’s see what was in store this month:

Whiskerbox June 2018 Booklet Front Whiskerbox June 2018 Booklet Back

There was an information card in the box listing the items. It also had my cats’ names!

Please note: Whiskerbox recently changed their information cards a bit. There are some box variations and everything you could possibly receive is listed, though you won’t necessarily get every item on the card. (You will still receive, in the case of the “Meow” version, 4-6 items, including apparel, for a total value of $76 or greater. For what it’s worth, I think the $76 is Canadian; I am pretty sure Whiskerbox is based out of Canada somewhere, although I can’t find an address to confirm this.)

Whiskerbox June 2018 Banana Toy

Slippery Banana Peel Catnip Toy by Housecat Club – Retail Value $9

My cats generally like Housecat Club toys and I think it’s fun getting something handmade and supporting an independent artisan. This is a fleece toy that includes organic catnip and it seems very durable so far.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Pie Toy

Catnip Banana Cream Pie Toy by Housecat Club – Retail Value $6

Here is our second Housecat Club toy of the month. It is small and made from felt and Angus has been tossing it around already. I hope he doesn’t chase it under a piece of furniture although that *is* a likely, eventual, fate for this toy.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Wobbler

Multipet Big Eyez Wobbler Toy – Retail Value $11.78

I think this is supposed to do something, but mine arrived with the switch in the “on” position and the batteries dead. My cats actually found it pretty interesting nonetheless. It takes AAA batteries so as soon as I find a little screwdriver to remove the battery door, I’ll try replacing them.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Hat

Cat Couture Personalized Cat Apparel – Listed Value $35

With this level of the subscription, you’ll get one piece of cat apparel per month. It alternates among bowtie + collar, knitted hat, and full-body costume (usually). I am not sure what this hat is (unicorn? banana head?) but it is pretty funny on the cats so I don't mind.

Gratuitous cat photo time:

I couldn’t get Angus in the hat but he was happy to investigate some of the toys.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Madison 1 Whiskerbox June 2018 Madison 2

I *could* get Madison in the hat and I’m surprised I got any pictures of him afterward.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Monkey 1

Monkey didn’t make his funny hat face this time, but I still like this photo.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Sneaky 1

The feathers on this thing were darned interesting, I guess.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Sparkles 1

OMG, he looks so pathetic here.

Whiskerbox June 2018 Sparkles 2

Mr. Kitty will usually sit still when I pose him with various objects. I think he was taking the chance to groom himself here because I took off his e-collar for a bit (he rubs his one remaining eye to the point of pain when given the opportunity so I have to watch him very carefully).

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $61.78 for the June 2018 Whiskerbox. Most of the items this month were available elsewhere on the web (with the exception of the cat hat – the apparel in this subscription appears to be exclusive to the subscription). I had a ball putting the hat on my cats and they seemed interested in the toys, which were all new to us, so I am happy with the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Whiskerbox ships on the 15th of the month so if you sign up before then (assuming they haven’t sold out), you would get July's box as your first box.

Oh, Ragan, I suggest sleeping with one eye open tonight. There could be a kittycat hat revolution.

Nah, they all avoided me last night. I have bronchitis and I guess the coughing drove them off…
