Vegan Cuts Beauty Subscription Box Review – June 2018

The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

The Vegan Cuts Beauty box usually contains a variety of haircare, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

Art Naturals Black Peel Off Mask, 3.4 oz – Retail Value $13

I’m still working out how much of this to use to actually get it to dry in the amount of time I have to use masks and to get it thick enough to peel off. I suspect there is a happy medium somewhere. But, I will say that considering my thus-far imperfect attempts, it definitely pulls gunk out of my pores and leaves my face in an excellent state for subsequent makeup application.

Puna Noni Naturals Plumeria Conditioner, 3 fl oz – Estimated Value $4.75 (Buy 12 oz for $19)

This is a new brand for me. This particular product is a thick white cream with a heavy floral aroma. I tried it on two separate occasions and I have to say, it is not right for my hair – I was totally frizzy the next day. It may work for some, just not me (for reference, I have long, Caucasian-textured, color-treated hair that is somewhat dry).

Derma E Vitamin C Brightening Clay Mask – Retail Value $4

I love clay masks and this individual package takes the guesswork out of how much to use (and keeps a larger container from drying out). This is mostly kaolin and bentonite with a lot of plant extracts containing antioxidants. I think this did a good job of removing excess oil without drying my skin out but I think you would have to use it a few times a week for a few weeks to really see the brightening effects.

Manna Kadar HD Volumizing Mascara in Jet Black, 4 mL – Listed Value $12

This particular product is only on eBay and available from third-party resellers on other websites like Amazon (and is not on the Manna Kadar site) so I think it is discontinued. However, it was new and sealed in the package so I won’t complain too much. I needed a new mascara since I recently got over an eye infection and had to throw my old one out and this works well enough and doesn’t irritate my eyes, even with contacts in.

Modicum No. 4 Birch Tree Water Spritz, 0.34 fl oz – Buy 1 oz for $28

Ah, a “water spritz.” I just do not use sprays and spritzes as part of my skincare routine and I really don’t understand their popularity. Whenever I receive one in a subscription box, I try it out as a toner, which is what I did here (it has rose flower distillate in it and that is often in toners). I would say it was OK for that purpose and I will probably use it up. For my skin type, this would be a better winter toner than a summer one. It is alcohol-free and non-drying and also has methylsulfonylmethane, a source of sulfur which may help clear up the skin over time.

William Roam Sense Shower Gel, 1.5 fl oz – Estimated Value $4.34 (buy 7.6 fl oz for $21.99)

This lathers pretty nicely despite appearing to be sulfate free, which is nice. I am unsure, even after using the entire container, what precisely it smells like (the product page says it is “light” and I don’t know that I would agree with that, though it’s not precisely heavy either). It’s kind of floral and kind of spicy and kind of something else that’s neither one of those things. Anyway, I felt clean after using it and it didn’t leave any residue on my skin.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $43.65 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That is a bit lower than the usual value although I did generally like the contents (and it is still more than twice the cost of the box). I was a fan of both masks (though I find it a bit unusual to receive two) and I was happy to at least try the conditioner, since it was a new brand for me, even if it didn’t end up working out for my hair.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you would receive the July box. They don't have a standard cut-off date, but boxes ship until their next month's spoilers launch (typically between the 26th and 29th of each month). If you are interested in trying some of the items, though, watch the Vegan Cuts shop for sales – they offer large bundles of past items fairly regularly.
