Surf Shop Box Spring 2018 Review

Since this is a men’s box, John will be modeling for us. I’m actually really excited because he lives in tees and I like this style on him.

The included card is a welcome note from the Surf Shop Box team and includes social media handles.

A copy of Freesurf is included. This magazine has some really great photography and nice write-ups on all things related to surfing.

Katin Lighthouse Tee - Estimated Value $32 (I couldn’t find the exact shirt so I linked to a similar one)

This 100% cotton tee is so soft and fits John really well. I like the minimal graphic and light grey-green color and longer length.

Tavik Holbrook Hybrid Short in Heather Iron Grey - Retail Value $50

These shorts are really nice and well-made. They’re made of a 4-way stretch material so they are easy to move around in and the fabric is quick-dry so they are good for being in and out of the water. They have rubber button closures on the fly and back pocket. I can see John getting a lot of use out of these this summer since we live near the beach and river.

Banks Journal Urchin Boardshort in Dirty Denim

Banks Journal Urchin Boardshort in Dirty Denim - Estimated Value $60 (link is to similar style)

John swears these are pom-poms instead of urchins. 🙂 These shorts are the more traditional boardshort style with a tie waist and thin, quick-dry fabric. This pair is made of recycled materials and has the 4-way stretch comfort. While these aren’t John’s typical style, I think they look good and would be perfect for the pool.

Quiksilver Carver Nubuck Sandals in Demitasse

Quiksilver Carver Nubuck Sandals in Demitasse -  Retail Value $34

These sandals are John’s favorite item in the box. They are comfortable and the vegan nubuck looks just like leather. Plus, they can get wet without worrying about ruining them. John has had Quiksilver sandals before and loved them, so he knows that the quality is there.

Ecovessel The Stout Stainless Steel Pint Glass, 16oz

Ecovessel The Stout Stainless Steel Pint Glass, 16oz - Retail Value $7.95

This stainless steel pint glass is the perfect alternative to plastic disposable cups this summer. It’s lightweight and durable, so easy to throw in your cooler, and it’s stackable, so storage is compact. It can be washed in the dishwasher and fits in regular cup holders. I like the price point too!

The Verdict: Wow! John’s first Surf Shop Box is a slam-dunk! It has a retail value of $183.95 which means we got just under 50% off retail prices. I think that’s great if you buy this style of clothing since it is pricey at surf shops. The quality of all of the items is top notch and everything fits John so nicely. If something hadn’t fit, he could have exchanged for different sizes for free. I also appreciate it being a quarterly subscription. That way, he doesn’t get overloaded with clothes and a new box comes around when it’s about time to update his tee collection. Including a useful lifestyle item, like the Ecovessel, is a great touch. I think this would be a great gift subscription too. John is already looking forward to next season’s box.

I don’t think they look like pom-poms but they would be better as polka dots. At least everything seemed to fit him well!

I would order if there was more Volcom, Hurley, Billabong, heck even Oneil. O like brands I’m already into and I happen to love surf shirts.

First, I wish they made this box for women who surf. Second, I wish since it was the Aloha box that they had included items from Hawaiian surf brands like HIC or Local Motion but otherwise looks like a great deal. Props to John for being a model!

This company just announced a similar box for women called Coastal Co. I’m interested to see what they send!

Nope nope nope. Coming from an actual surfer, this box is all kinds of overpriced.
