Love With Food Gluten Free June 2018 Review

I'm excited to explore this month's gluten-free Love with Food box. I don't eat a strictly gluten-free diet, but my husband and I cook and eat gluten-conscious due to the widespread health benefits of cutting back on grains and carbs. Ready to see what's inside?

Love With Food GF June 2018 Wow Nut Butter

Love With Food GF June 2018 Soy Butter

Love With Food GF June 2018 WowButter

Wowbutter, 1.12 oz – Buy 17.6 oz for $3.94

I live in a nut-butter-loving household and if I want to keep a jar around for more than a few days (I'm serious), I have to hide it. My husband makes his own 8-nut and seed butter in bulk about once every other week. Despite all that, I've actually never tasted soy butter! I thought the flavor was fine—nothing too standout and for someone like me who doesn't have a peanut allergy, not something I'll likely seek out again. While I do like how portable this snack is, I dislike the plastic-to-food ratio. It strikes me as wasteful. It was still an interesting and unique snack to try!

Love With Food GF June 2018 Tea Love With Food GF June 2018 Tea Bag

Pure Leaf Hot Tea Bags, Black Tea with Vanilla x 3 - Buy 6 packs of 16 for $25.46

I often go for a good, classic mug of black tea when I want a warm drink and was curious to see what the vanilla flavoring would add. To me, the vanilla flavor tasted kind of fake and didn't blend well with the black tea flavor. I'll still hang onto the extra 2 bags I got in this box to have in my tea cabinet for if a friend wants to give it a try!

Love With Food GF June 2018 Jerky

Love With Food GF June 2018 Cheese and Jerky

Chef’s Cut Smoked Beef with Cheddar Cheese, 1.35 oz – Buy a 6 Pack for $21.95

I'm just coming around to jerky and part of the reason I've been a skeptic is because of how much sugar is often in it. For a savory snack, I want something salty! This jerky fell into that category of "too sweet," even when paired with the dehydrated cheese. If anyone knows of a jerky brand that isn't filled with sugar, I'd love your recs!

Love With Food GF June 2018 Seaweed Love With Food GF June 2018 Seaweed Snack Love With Food GF June 2018 Sea Salt Seaweed

Ocean’s Halo Sea Salt Seaweed Snacks, 0.14 oz – Buy 12 Trays for $16.93

I don't eat seafood of any kind and while I know seaweed has a lot of great vitamins and nutrients in it that could help me make up for it, the flavor has always struck me as too fishy. Here's what one of our other reviewers, Ragan, had to say about this product:

So I just bought like $65 worth of these off Amazon, but in the Texas BBQ, Chili Lime, and Maui Onion flavors. Then, I used some Love with Food points to get more of the Maui Onion ones. I have gotten it into my head lately that I don’t have enough iodine in my diet and this is a way to get it from food instead of supplements. (I don’t eat fish and though we do buy iodized salt, we don’t actually put much of it in our food). This whole package is only 20 calories. If you don’t like the seaweed flavor, go with one of the flavored ones as I do think this brand (which I have received in food subscription boxes many times before) does a really good job with flavors.

Love With Food GF June 2018 Peanuts Love With Food GF June 2018 Salted Nuts Love With Food GF June 2018 Salted Peanuts

Hubs Home Cooked Salted Virginia Peanuts, 1 oz – Buy 12 Bags for $15.99 (found here for $13.99)

I always have nuts in my pantry to snack on, but not often peanuts because I usually get a good amount of peanut protein from peanut butter! These peanuts were so salty and satisfying! I found the contents of the 1 oz package to be the perfect amount for an afternoon boost.

Love With Food GF June 2018 Beanitos

Love With Food GF June 2018 Lime Chips

Love With Food GF June 2018 Gluten Free Chips

Beanitos “Hint of Lime”, 1.2 oz x 2 – Buy 6 oz for $4.19 (found on sale here for $2.94)

I'm a sucker for a good tortilla chip, and I've liked every Beanito I've ever tried, so I was ready for these! I'll point out that even though these chips are marketed as being "white bean chips," a peek at the ingredients list shows that they do also contain corn. And, for those with allergies, note that they've been made in a facility that may contain dairy, wheat, corn, and tree nuts. As for the flavor, I thought the lime dusting was a little intense. I might have abandoned these chips if I were just dipping them into salsa or guac, but I ate them with a burrito and the balance of flavor worked itself out.

Love With Food GF June 2018 Cinnamon Snack

Love With Food GF June 2018 Cinnamon Beans

Enlightened Roasted Broad Bean Crisps in Sweet Cinnamon, 4.5 oz – Buy 12 Bags for $79 (found on sale here for $49.99)

This is such an interesting concept! These are dried beans with a cinnamon flavoring on 'em. I love that they only have 1g of sugar! I'll say you have to be a bit open-minded to appreciate the flavor of this snack fully—there's something a little unusual about the sweetness paired with the bean taste—but the bag suggests mixing them into oatmeal or yogurt, and I think they'd work great for that purpose, when mixed with other flavors and textures.

Love With Food GF June 2018 Candy Love With Food GF June 2018 Caramel

Tom & Jenny's Classic Soft Caramels, 2 count — Buy a 2.3 oz bag for $5.99

These candies were pretty melty when they arrived. I unwrapped one to find a very sticky situation and I really don't care for this type of candy enough to get sticky fingers and molars trying to enjoy it. I decided to pass on trying it!

Love With Food GF June 2018 breakfast Cookie Love With Food GF June 2018 Breakfast Bar

Love With Food GF June 2018 Lemon Ginger Cookie

Love With Food GF June 2018 Dancing Deer

Dancing Deer Baking Co. Lemon Blueberry Oatmeal Breakfast Cookie, 2 oz. – Buy 12 for $24.99

Breakfast cookie, you say? Sign me up! This snack does have 16g of sugar and only 5g of protein, which ain't the best way to start your day, but that doesn't mean it isn't tempting! I was enticed by the lemon ginger blueberry flavor—not your everyday cookie combo. When I bit in, I found this cookie to be good but not great. The lemon flavor tasted a little artificial to me, and the ginger was difficult to detect.

Love With Food GF June 2018 Chewy Granola Bar

Love With Food GF June 2018 Don't Go Nuts

Don't Go Nuts Blueberry Blast Bar, 1.26 oz. - Buy 12 for $21.48

This granola bar is both gluten free and nut free. It's geared toward kids, but its blueberry flavor struck me as surprisingly natural and really good. It's got a chewy consistency with a slight crunch thanks to puffed rice. It's not very substantial with 12g of sugar and only 2g of protein, but it tastes good!

The Verdict: This month's Love with Food Gluten-Free box offered a nice variety of snacks. It included some out-of-the-ordinary flavor combos and some straight up indulgent items. I do wish that snacks marketing themselves as healthy would keep the sugar content to a minimum, but if eaten in moderation, they're still better than many other foods one might reach for in a moment of mid-afternoon hunger. Value-wise, I'd say this box is a good deal, especially when you consider that it saves snackers the trouble of having to sift through nutrition labels at the grocery store and they can just dive right in!

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? If you order today, you will receive the July box.

Limited Time Deal: Now through 6/30, use this link to get a FREE $20-value bonus box with any subscription of 6-months or longer, plus use coupon code SASS18 to save an additional $10 off their Tasting, Gluten Free or Deluxe plans.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $24.99 + $3.99 shipping, which means that each of the 13 items in the box (counting the candies as 1) has an average cost of $2.23.

You didn’t eat the seaweed and I didn’t eat the jerky but I guess between the two of us we got both items covered.

I don’t think the seaweed tastes like fish but then I suppose I actually have no idea what fish tastes like because I’ve been a vegetarian for 25 years. Though there is a certain “marine” aroma to it, I suppose. (But it is vegan.)

Those caramels look great but why are they labeled and linked to cherries? I don’t see any cherries at all in the box. Am I missing something?

Hey Mimi! Eek—that was an oversight on my part. The link has now been updated so you can shop your heart out for yummy caramels!

I used my points to get a 6-pack of the jerky snacks, so I’m a bit bummed to hear they are sweet. Maybe they will be OK!

I love dried seaweed snacks, but my box came with a Maui Onion flavored ones that just didn’t work and had a super chewy texture. I wasn’t a fan of the WOW butter either- I gave most of it to my toddler.

It’s only my second month, but I do like getting a box of random snacks – great for keeping calories up when nursing!

I hope you disagree with me about the jerky being sweet! I’m a little bit of a fair weather jerky fan anyway, so maybe I’m just being picky. 🙂

Dena

I didn’t feel that the jerky is sweet at all!!
