Little Passports Early Explorers July 2018 Review

This month we received a gift card for $30 off your first Hello Fresh box. (Check out our reviews to learn more and save $30 off your first box!)

Our letter from Max and Mia this month told us about how much fun they had swimming in our Earth’s oceans and they sent us a picture of them scuba diving. They told us about an oceanographer that they met and about some of the animals they learned about. This is a cute way to start the box and introduce some educational information about the theme.

These are the trading cards that we received this month that highlighted three different living things that can be found in the oceans and where they are located. I liked that when you put them next to each other they created a little panoramic scene.

On the back of our letter was this mini version of our World map that we received in our Traveler Kit from our first box. They also sent us some stickers to place on our map to show where we could find each geographical feature or animal. The stickers are clear so that when you add them to the map they don’t cover anything up, but instead become a part of your map. My daughter and I would locate the numbered stars on the smaller map and then find the matching star on the large map in order to place our stickers. I think it was a great activity for acquiring some new learning skills and for reinforcing numbers.

Each month you receive an activity booklet based on the theme. The box is geared towards ages 3-5 and I really think that the activities are great for that age. It was nice to find activities that my 3-year-old daughter could complete somewhat independently and it’s great practice for preschool!

Some of the skills that were covered included tracing, patterns, matching, and they even some craft ideas. The pages were detailed and colorful with short, fun activities which are perfect for little attention spans.

I thought it was great that they had an answer key in the back for kids to use as needed.

At the end of the booklet were some extension ideas related to our theme.

I love these little flashlight books! They are perfect to keep in the car for a quiet, independent activity. I just punched out the flashlight and then wedged it in between the pages and it showed the animals which were otherwise hidden. It really resembled a little flashlight which was fun!

This was our souvenir for this month’s travels - a little wooden fishing game. Perfect for the oceans theme!

There were several different sea creatures that we could catch with our fishing pole. It was actually a little bit tricky to get the hook onto them, but I think it’s a great lesson in patience and good fine motor skill practice! The set even fits into its own little bag which is great! I see this toy lasting us awhile and I think it will be fun to take with us to the beach to play with on a rainy day.

We received our monthly sticker for our oceans theme that we could add to our suitcase now that we had completed our ocean adventure.

They also included this luggage tag for this trip that we added to our suitcase that we received in our Traveler Kit from our first box.

The best part is that everything can then be packed away into our suitcase until our next adventure. Such a cute and fun concept!

Add-on Item:

Dino Pals Backpack- Retail Value $24.95

We received this dinosaur backpack in our box this month as well. This did not come with the monthly subscription but is an add-on item from their shop. One nice thing about this subscription is that you have the option to bundle shop items to ship with your subscription for free. This is a little bit expensive to me, but given my son’s love of dinosaurs, I was thrilled to see this and could definitely see myself splurging on it as a gift for him! It really is such a cute and unique toy. The backpack is the perfect size for a toddler or younger kid and the dinosaurs look so cute poking their little heads out of the holes. It’s a great toy to bring along with us on trips. I love the map that was included too. It’s large, on thick paper and very colorful, plus it shows us where we could find various dinosaurs around the world. This was a fun and educational toy that is already getting a lot of use in our house!

Verdict: We really enjoyed our Little Passports Early Explorers oceans theme. There were a lot of great educational activities and some of them could be completed independently, which I appreciate. I think the box was appropriate for the target age group of 3-5 and that the activities were engaging. The fishing set was very cute and I love that it’s something we can use over and over again. At $21.95 ($18.95 + $3.00 shipping and not including the add-on), I feel like we got a great value for what was included this month. Everything was fun and educational and my daughter was engaged in the activities. I loved seeing her little brain working to try and complete the activities and it was nice to have them all in one themed package that we could take out and work on together.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You will receive the Traveler Kit first, with subsequent monthly themed boxes. From Little Passports:

We currently do not offer the ability to customize the order/sequencing of the monthly country, monthly themed or monthly state mailings.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Thank you for the great review! Do you think that you or someone at MSA will review the science one in the upcoming months?

This subscription box is adorable! I don’t have children myself but I am thinking of buying a few boxes and place the items in the school where I am teaching at present.
