You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Lillypost May 2018 Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their new coloring contests. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is Outer Space and I love that they included some fun facts too!

Little Friends Sound Book: Colors by Mara van der Meer, Penny Worms and Amy Oliver - Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $11.24)

This book couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. My almost 2-year-old has been really into colors lately and wants to name every color that he sees. This is the perfect book for teaching him and reinforcing the idea of color.

I really love the way this book is set up. They highlight a color and describe the picture and then ask the child to help pick a color that matches it. But it’s done in a really unique and engaging way. The little sound portion simply says the name of the color which is helpful if a child gets stuck on their colors. I think it’s cute that it looks like a little paint palette! The book is great by itself, but the sounds make it even more engaging.

Can an Aardvark Bark? by Melissa Stewart

Can an Aardvark Bark? by Melissa Stewart - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $14.38)

This book is a little more advanced than the colors book. I love that we get books at such different levels because it really broadens the range of materials we have in our home library. This was a great book to explore together with a ton of different animals and a lot of fun sounds and noises that we could replicate.

I liked that there was large text that was simple and more of a story, but that it also had smaller, more educational paragraphs about each animal. I read the larger lines for my son since his attention span is a little shorter, but with my daughter, I could read the whole book to her. I thought the animals were great because there were a lot of animals we had never heard of. This was definitely a different kind of book than we are used to, but we all really appreciated it.

Super Manny Stands Up! by Kelly DiPucchio - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $9.89)

Super Manny is about a raccoon who dons various capes to fight off imaginary bad guys like alien robots and sea creatures. Each time he wears a different color cape and declares a different adjective to describe himself such as strong or fearless. I love that the imaginary creatures are featured in the same color as the cape as it makes it easy to see what is happening.

When he is at school he wears an invisible cape to fight the bad guys and he ends up standing up to a bully and making a new friend. This was a cute book with a good message. The bully scene was very simple and not too intense but showed how easy it is to be a hero just by being kind and looking out for others.

Verdict: This was another great Lillypost box! The mixed book option is really perfect for us because we get a good mix that appeals to both my son and my daughter. This month it was great to have an interactive book that the kids could explore on their own along with two titles that were fun for us to read together.

The total retail value of the books came to $50.97 (less with sale prices), and the cost of the box was $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping). I think that’s a great deal, even if you take into account the sale prices!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
