Exotic Noods is a ramen subscription box that delivers noodles from around the world every month! You receive four or eight ramens a month, and you can choose “regular” or “no spicy.” Bonus— this box doesn't have “Exotic Noods” prominently displayed if that is something you don't want others to see 😉

Exotic Noods May 2018 open box

There are three subscription options for this box. You can get the red pack, which will require you to cook your noodles in a pot or separate bowl, the black pack, which comes conveniently packaged and you only need to add hot water, or the green pack, which is both the red and black packs in one box.

This review is of the Red 4 Pack, $15 a month, box.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Exotic Noods May 2018 Review

Exotic Noods May 2018 info sheet

This box included an info sheet with more interesting tidbits about each ramen included.

Sesame Paste Noodles

This ramen wasn’t awful, but it was the least delicious out of the four ramens included this month (to be fair, all of the other ramens were great). I didn’t really taste sesame paste (in what I know sesame to taste like from sesame oil), but I did taste soy sauce and there was a bit too much soy sauce flavor in here for me. The noodles were standard, but the broth was too salty.

Fire Curry Chicken Noodles

I knew from last month that if a noodle has the word “fire” in the name, it’s going to be a painful and delicious experience. This ramen tasted a lot like the curry umaibo from the May Japan Candy box, so there was a noticeable curry powder flavor. Oh man, though, does this bring the heat.  I had a friend with me to taste test these ramens, and she said it made her eyes water from the spice but her mouth water because it smelled and tasted so good. It really did- this was delicious.

Chewy Potato Ramen

This ramen lived up to their namesake and were indeed chewy! It was a pleasantly chewy experience, however, and these noodles had a hint of mint I wasn’t expecting. My friend described these as basic top ramen broth kicked up with some Cajun spices, and I think that’s a good way to explain these!

Spicy Zha Wang Noodles

Like the word “fire,” I take note when an Asian ramen has “spicy” in the name. This definitely brought the heat, but it brought the flavor too. This was my favorite of the month because while it made my tongue feel like it was on fire, there was some really delicious flavor in here too. The noodles were soft and chewy with great texture, and there was actual black bean and peas in here that added some texture surprises. If I knew where to buy more of these I would do so in a heartbeat.

The Verdict: I continue to have a lot of fun with Exotic Noods! I enjoyed being able to have a ramen taste-testing party with one of my friends, and I thought including two spicy and two non-spicy noodles made for a good mix. I can’t easily find ramens like these where I am, so I am happy with the price of $3.75 per pack—and each ramen could easily be made into a meal when topped with a cooked egg!

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Since the target ship date, each month is the 5th, I believe if you sign up today you will get the June box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $15 with free shipping and I received four packs of ramen. That breaks down to $3.75 a pack.

I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

The sesame paste noodle was supposed to be enjoyed dry… not in a soup
