Cat Claws Club is a bi-monthly subscription box for cats filled with lots of toys, treats, and other surprises.  (They just use whatever box will fit the items, so it varies from month to month, but it allows for some unusual item shapes, which can be fun!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cat Claws Club June 2018 Review

About Cat Claws Club

The Subscription Box: Cat Claws Club

The Cost: $33.90 a box ($24.95 subscription price + $8.95 shipping)

The Products: Lots of cat items, mostly toys, including some exclusive and/or new items.

Good to know: Although PayPal checkout shows as an option for this subscription, you can’t actually pay for the subscription with PayPal.  I checked out that way the first time and they contacted me, processed a PayPal refund, and I had to resubscribe with a credit card number.

Ships to: U.S.

Cat Claws Club June 2018 Review

This subscription is pretty heavy on the toys and is often, but not always, holiday-themed. This is also one of the only cat subscriptions where you get scratch pads regularly. Let’s see what was in the box this month:

There’s usually a booklet with more information on the items. There was also a card asking you to share pictures on social media.

Country Chicken Cat Toy

Country Chicken Cat Toy – Retail Value $6.25

This is a lightweight catnip plush that is a good size for tossing around. There are several different textures involved, which is always a plus for my kitties. Everyone was too focused on treats during our photo session to do much playing in pictures, but this has been moving around the upstairs so someone is pretty into it.

Fried Egg Refillable Catnip Toy – Estimated Value $6

This item wasn’t available in the Cat Claws shop so I’ve estimated the value based on similarly-sized refillable toys that they do sell. This has hook-and-loop tape on the back to keep it closed and arrived stuffed full of catnip. It has a fuzzy texture that is appealing to several of my cats, and the small size is perfect.

Happy Hen Scratcher

Happy Hen Scratcher – Estimated Value $25

This is another Cat Claws Club exclusive item so I estimated the value based on similarly-sized animal scratchers from their store. This came with a packet of catnip (they always do), which was quite popular. I have placed this near the top of the stairs and Monkey sits on it and looks out over his domain (it’s pretty cute to watch him).

Churu Chicken Purees (4 pack) – Retail Value $3.99

Best cat treat ever. Cat Claws Club introduced me to these things and I have since ordered tons (they are originally from an Asian country but are starting to hit the US market). You can see why I like them so much in some of the pictures below. (Also, these seem to keep Monkey’s innards lubricated and he has many fewer hairballs if he is eating a few of these a week.)

Gratuitous cat photos ahead:

Any time I get these purees in a subscription box, you can pretty much guarantee there will be a lot of pictures like this.

Monkey almost never eats treats. But he likes these.

Monkey and Angus shared the treats. See TWO kitty tongues in the third picture?

And then they ate catnip off the scratch pad until one of them threw up.

Sneaky kept trying to eat the foil pouch.

But she did also share a little.

Mr. Kitty is still in the cone to keep him from rubbing his eye, but he was hanging out when we took pictures. (He can’t have the treats, unfortunately, although I’m sure he would love them.)

Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total retail value for Cat Claws Club this month since some of the items are exclusive to the box. I thought they did a great job of choosing items that fit the chicken and egg theme but also selecting items that are unique to Cat Claws (like the scratcher, or the chicken purees that are only just starting to show up at other retailers, etc.). Plus, my cats enjoyed the items and that is the main thing!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  No, Cat Claws Club ships once every other month. Your first box would be August's box if you signed up now. (But, a fair number of the items are available for individual purchase from CatClaws.com.)

Value Breakdown: At $33.90 for the subscription ($24.95 + $8.95 shipping), the toys and treats add up to about $16, leaving about $18 for the scratcher (which is less than a new scratcher in a similar design would sell for).

I love your kitties! I think this box is too expensive. If you go to Ross, they sell those cat scratchers for $4-$6. I buy them all of the time!

These are much more substantial/sturdier than the ones you get at mass market stores. I order some from Amazon that cost less, and they just don’t last as long.
