Candy Club June 2018 Review

looking into Candy Club box

Since it's getting hot out there now, Candy Club has added insulating material to prevent your candies from melting in transit. Sadly, not even that insulation could stop the heat from melting 2 of the three candies I chose.

Atkinson's Chick-O-Sticks

Atkinson's Chick-O-Sticks, 2.1 ounces

First- the loose candies. I was not aware of the bite-size versions of Chick-O-Sticks but know them well because they are a favorite treat for some of my vegan friends. If you're not familiar, these are basically the inside of a butter finger (sans chocolate). There's a little something in the aftertaste of these I don't care for, but Emily's eye lit up when she saw them.

Albanese Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Balls, 8 ounces

Next, we have the first casualty of the box and my entire Candy Club life. These milk chocolate peanut butter pretzel balls that are pretty unrecognizable since they're supposed to be coated in chocolate. I'm a little perplexed but the chocolate IS in there. Make no mistake, these still taste great but are melted into one giant lump. I think the best course of action would be to break this clump apart with a knife and use in ice cream.

Arway Dark Chocolate Sticklets, 7.9 ounces

Whomp whomp. The chocolate on these pretzel sticks also melted into one giant blob, trapping the poor pretzels inside. I used a knife to chip some away and boy were they delicious. Too bad it's so hard to eat in this form.

Haribo Gummy Dinosaurs looking down at Haribo Gummy Dinosaurs

Haribo Gummy Dinosaurs, 10.3 ounces

Gummy dinos for the win! They came totally in-tact and unmelted. If you love gummies like I do, you know that Haribo is the best. These multi-colored dinosaurs are super cute and fun to eat. They're crazy soft and have the best fruity sugary flavor!

Verdict: Candy Club says that they send *up to* 3 lbs of candy in each $29.99 (+8.99 shipping) package, but the kicker is that they don't really send you the candy selection by weight, they send three choices by volume. In this particular box, I received a total of 28.3 ounces (or 1.77 lbs) of candy across the 4 kinds which would make this $22.00 per pound. Two of the three candies I chose came melted, but I've sent an email to their customer service to see what they can do. I'll update my review once when I hear back!

UPDATE: I got a response from Candy Club's customer service yesterday (turnaround time was 48 hours) and they refunded me $17.98 for the two melted candies and told me they sent my photos to their team to further investigate the issue. While I'm glad they gave me a partial refund, I can't help but be a little shocked it wasn't larger since 2/3 of the candy that was paid for was melted. I suppose I can still eat it, but it's just a bit messier.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You won't get this exact box since you can either choose your candy or have it chosen at random for you!

Value Breakdown: At $38.98 for this box on the month-to-month plan, we're paying about $22.02 per pound of candy.

Ive been a member with The Candy Club for some time now and I thought it was great up until today…I went to choose my candies for the month and (by the way they only give you a select few to choose from every month so the “all candies tab” you see on the home page you have to wait for months to pick the ones you want, kinda irritating to begin with) but my real problem is I live in warmer weather climate and they decided to take away my chocolate category for the month and the summer seasons, when I spoke with one of the mangers they said that it was because they didnt want to chocolate to melt, great okay Im fine with that but they never replaced the chocolate category with anything else so my candies were now even fewer then usual. Very upset at this point and “the manger” said that it happens every year but the only thing I could do it skip a month of candies instead of offering me different candies or if this happens every year fix the problem by having an option b list for people like me. You only do candy you cant tell me that you could give me a second option other then skipping a month. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

The chick o sticks and haribo are both sold in bags at Dollar tree for $1 each.

When I contacted candy club about melted candy last summer they credited my account for the melted candy but I needed to send a pic.

To cancel with this company you have to call in. At least that was my experience when I tried to cancel online and via email.

The candy they send tastes yummy and is fresh but the cost….not so much.

Thanks for an awesome review!

Yep. I had a 6 month sub about a year ago and when I emailed to cancel they said they would allow it this one time, but I was supposed to call. Not sure what the difference was. All it did was help convince me to not sign up again. Well, that and the price increase when I already thought I was paying too much (even with a reduced long-term sub cost plus coupon).

They had a lawsuit going on can’t remember about what, but I don’t think their candy is worth the price. I’ll drive to Albanese Candy factory in Indiana before I’ll sub to this at full price.

The lawsuit was regarding the boxes being underfilled. They promise a certain number of lbs of candy but a lot of people received far less.

I buy candy often from albanese candy dot com. $22 per lb is crazy, especially when talking about gummies and chocolate pretzels.
