Good to Know: The BookCase.Club for Kids used to be called Read to Me. Their model now says they’ll be sending 3 books a month (formerly 4) and you can pick what age range you’d like the books to be geared to (newborn-2, age 2-4, 5-6, 7-8, Pre-Teen).
BookCase.Club for Kids May 2018 Review
Rocket’s Mighty Words by Tad Hills- Retail Value $7.99 (found on sale here for $6.39)
Rocket is such a cute character, it was nice to open our box and find this book. We have a Rocket picture book, but I didn’t know there were board books from this series!
This book is basically just a book full of words, over 100 of them, in fact. I liked that some of them were presented as labels and that a lot of them were words that we could easily guess by the picture that was next to it. I think this will be a great book for when my daughter begins to read. The chalkboard pages with multiple pictures were great for her to start reading from pictures as she named as many objects as she could. The kids and I had fun reading this and pointing out everything and naming them as fast as we could.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Alison Jay - Retail Value $6.99
My daughter recently found my old copy of Alice in Wonderland, the Little Golden Books version, and we have been reading that, so this was exciting for her to receive! I think it’s fun that they basically summarized the entire story into just a series of illustrations with one descriptive word on each page.
Since my daughter was familiar with the story, it was easy for her to guess at what each word was and again, this will make a great beginning reader book for us when the time comes!
Chicken, Chicken, Duck! by Nadia Krilanovich - Retail Value $7.18
This was another book without much text, but instead a lot of single words. My son loved this book though and thought it was fun with all of the animals.
The pages named the animals, which there are many of, and some of them listed the sounds of the animals. There is also a repetitive line about chicken, chicken, and duck which my son enjoyed the more we read it since it was easy for him to join in with the reading of the story.
Verdict: The books we received this month from BookCase.Club were a little different since they all had such simple and limited text. I liked each of these books a lot individually and think they will be great for teaching my kids to read and recognize words when they are a bit older. I just wish that maybe we hadn’t received three such books all at once. Fortunately, the kids didn’t seem to mind since the subject matter and different style of each book kept them entertained. We have already read them each multiple times so overall, I was pleased with our books this month!
The total retail value of the books came to $22.16, which is a good value for a $14.99 ($9.99 + $5.00 shipping) per month box (especially if you opt for a longer subscription which costs less). I like that each month I really don’t know what to expect from this box- it makes each unboxing a real surprise!
