Allure Beauty Box x Kat Von D June 2018 Review

info booklet Allure x Kat Von D

This month's Allure Beauty Box is a "takeover" by Kat Von D and was curated by her along with Allure's Deputy Beauty Director, Elizabeth Siegel. This is such a treat since I'm a big fan of Kat's makeup!

intro and info on kvd tattoo eyeliner

info on kvd everlasting lip liner and studded kiss creme lipstick

info on ole henriksen transforming walnut scrub and kvd travel mirror

back of info booklet for Allure x Kat Von D

There's a booklet that begins with a letter from Elizabeth, and each page afterward talks about the five products included that are compiled of their favorites.

kat von d tattoo eyeliner in trooper black

Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner in Tropper Black, 0.2ml - Estimated Retail Value $10.00 (Full Size $20.00)

Well, this is a strong start because I already use this eyeliner! I love liquid eyeliners even though with contacts sometimes things can get watery, I've never had a problem with Kat's version as it stays put and doesn't end up anywhere else on my face. Since this "trooper" shade is a deep black and the same color I use, I'm excited to have a travel size to pop in my bag before heading out of the house.

kat von d everlasting lip liner in lolita with packaging

Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner in Lolita, FULL SIZE! $18.00

I love wearing lipstick and have oodles of variations of this color but haven't really dabbled much in lip liners. I could have sworn I owned this hue in liquid lipstick but I just have a few similar ones which is terrific because it will still work! I was really impressed with how this liner glided across my lips. It's really creamy and soft so it allows me to define the lip shape I want and prevent bleeding when I use cream lipsticks. Hooray! This is going into my beauty routine.

kat von d studded kiss creme lipstick in double dare with packaging

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Double Dare, Estimated Retail Value $5.59 (Full Size $19.00)

I've never tried Kat Von D's creme lipstick, but I'm a HUGE fan of her liquid ones (and already own this color in that form) so I'm on board to give this one a go. The dusty rose color is really close to the color of lipliner below so they work really well together. The liner is slightly darker, but it blends nicely and makes my lips really precise. Like the liner, I was also blown away by how creamy this formula is and am wondering why it took me so long to try the creme version of her lipsticks! It's also really staying put even though it does seem to transfer slightly. Overall, it's really moisturizing too. The tube is a smaller travel version of the full size so, like the eyeliner, I can toss this in a pouch in my bag for when I need to look polished on the go. The studded tube gives it a signature punk look that is synonymous with Kat Von D as well and sets it apart from those bourgeoisie brands.

ole henriksen tranforming walnut scrub

Ole Henricksen Transforming Walnut Scrub, 3 oz. - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $28.00

back of ole henriksen tranforming walnut scrub

Yes! I loooove exfoliators! Something about the gritty texture really makes me feel like I'm getting my face clean and helping remove any dry skin that may be muting my glow. This transforming walnut scrub is just DIVINE. Immediately after using it my face felt impossibly soft and smooth like I had been reborn. Having that feeling is a wonderful base for the rest of my skin routine. The walnut powder "gently exfoliates to reveal fresher, softer skin" while the Ginseng extract "helps purify and revive". It is of course vegan as well which is very important to Kat Von D and contains no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates.

back of kat von d travel mirror

Kat Von D Travel Mirror - Estimated Retail Value $8.00? (Larger hand mirror here for $18.00)

mirror side of kat von d travel mirror

The final item is this super cool travel mirror! It's designed to look like a wax seal like the one you'd find on a letter with the recognizable KVD logo embossed on it. The total diameter is a little over 3 inches so, like the other petite products, this easily slips into your bag so you can check your look discretely wherever you are. Since a lot of my makeup doesn't have built-in mirrors, this will come in handy for me.

swatches for Allure x Kat Von D beauty box

Here are the swatches of the lip liner, creme lipstick, and liquid eyeliner.

Verdict: This month's Allure Beauty Box is absolutely the perfect box for a Kat Von D beauty fan like myself. Every single product was a win and even though they weren't all full size, they are perfect for travel or supplementing in between grabbing your next full size. This has to be one of my favorite months of any beauty box plus the value is wonderful seeing as though it's only $15.00 and I estimate the retail to be about $69.59!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! As of publication, this box is still available. (To make sure you get this as your first box, scroll down this page to make sure you see these products featured.)

Liz,

You should NOT be giving Allure business! This company is charging people’s cards, not sending boxes, not responding to emails, sending broken, half used, old samples, and advertising great products that they don’t deliver. How can you feel good about even giving us the option to subscribe to this deplorable company??? Read the reviews! I signed up because you gave them a good review. UGH.

I subscribed at the end of June and just got the June box yesterday. My free gift was some waxy lip moisturizer. Does anyone know if this was a potential gift, or did anyone else get this? I was hoping for the mascara.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamey

The exact same thing here.i got a cheap lip balm and subscribed on june 20 and just got my june box on july 10. So when do i get julys box? In aug?

Cindi

Did anyone get the liquid lipstick?

Just wondering since I haven’t seen anybody happy about it.

I’m happy with my box since I generally buy a KVD lip liner every once in a while and my whole box was cheaper than one from Sephora or the web site.

Reply ButtonReply

Suzy

I liked the box, not so happy with the anti-vax stance, but the lipstick (cream not liquid) was the perfect shade for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

Agreed. My biology degree is having a hard time separating the art from the artist.

Amie

This box was terrible for me. First off, when I checked the website, it listed the liquid lip as being an item in the box but I got the mirror? Very upset as that is the main reason I got it. Then I noticed that when they sent shipping update they used the first line of my shipping address but the city state of my billing (the next town over). I emailed them and they “fixed” their error in time for shipping, about a week prior. Or so I thought. had to go to a specific post office location to pick up my box which took 30+ mins for them to find. But they found it! Yay! The moment I’ve been waiting for…wait…the lip liner is stuck in the cap…the lipstick is stuck in the cap..what kind of crap is this?? And the tatcha product is super scuffed up and the seal wasn’t on all the way like it’s been used..so disappointed..I’ll be sticking to Sephora’s box from now on

I also had my lipliner broken off and stuck to the cap. I contacted Allure and sent pictures. They said they’d send a replacement box (of course, I had to write twice – and then I got a few different emails as though nobody kept track of whether a CS rep responded or not). I did get my replacement box but it was smashed to smithereens. The box was squashed down to a wedge shape, the lipstick case was so smashed it couldn’t be turned and raised, but the worst is that the walnut scrub was totally ripped open and got all over everthing in the bag – in every nook and cranny. Nothing was salvageable. I wrote them about this replacement box, got no answer and wrote again today. My May box was damaged as well and they did send a replacement box. They do seem to eventually make good on things, but they field customer service inquiries in a rather haphazard way. Things fall between the cracks easily. I can’t even imagine how and where the box got so crushed. I don’t think much of the post office, but I haven’t seen quite that much damage. I don’t know if the damage happened in Allure’s hands or after it left.

Didn’t get my box this month. I was issued a new credit card mid-month, but notified Allure CS too late before the box sold out. 🙁 Oh well. Didn’t really need any of it…due to product overload. Waiting for July box now.

Christine Sutters

I just loved the Kat Von D box. This was the first box that I have bought. I have used all the products and they are so awesome

Reply ButtonReply

Just received my first Allure box today 6/29, I did get the KVD, and I am sooo disappointed! My lipstick is smashed, my lipliner box was opened (first thing I noticed when unboxing) and there’s product on the cap of it, clearly looks like they sent me someone’s returns. I was most excited to try those two things based on the MSA review of this box. And yes, my scrub has that carving too, lol. I wonder if there’s even any point in complaining after hearing from you guys how terrible customer service is…so disappointing, I was very excited to get this…

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

I doubt they are returns since I don’t think Allure takes returns! And yes, the CS is pretty bad. i did get something, an email maybe, that said they are aware that they’re perceived as bad in this area and are working to improve, so maybe we all have something to look forward to.

Reply ButtonReply

Tran

Received my box today and I signed upon 06/12 for the liquid lipstick but got the mirror instead 🙁 so disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

Ash

Me too! That was the only reason I got it in the first place. I was pissed. I dont like being told I’ll get one thing, then getting something else. False advertising at its finest!

Reply ButtonReply

fernanda.perez8915

ahh me too :(((

Reply ButtonReply

christina.poynter

has anyone else had problems with receiving their box from Allure? I signed up on 6/12 and I still have not heard or received anything. Emailed them no response. I signed up for Boxy Charm and FitFabFun the same day and have both. NO ALLURE BOX OR RESPONSE. Super sad and disappointed

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth

I never received my June Kat Von D box from Allure. I called the customer service number and they told me the box was sold out and I would not be able to receive a replacement box. But they did say they would refund my account of the amount $17. This would have been only my second box from Allure and I was totally looking forward to it! So sad that I wasn’t able to get it🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Julie D White

Me too. But it does show now it finally shipped out 6/26.

Reply ButtonReply

Elaan

Same here but I saw some fine print in one of their emails that they sold out of that box and my first box would be the July one. I just received notification of that one bing shipped.

Reply ButtonReply

bdubs

Based on a tip on MSA I ordered Allure through Amazon instead. My Kat VonD box arrived within a week. I love the idea that I can easily cancel or appeal to Amazon customer service after reading of issues with Allure direct.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

I FINALLY got an email confirmation today – it is the 26th!! – that my Allure box had shipped out… hopefully you guys will get an email too!

Lara

Don’t worry! Same thing happened with me at first – signed up end of May, box came mid-June. It doesn’t ship right away, give it about 2-3 weeks. They should definitely send another email stating that though.

Reply ButtonReply

Sierra

I’ve had the same issue! I signed up on 6/12 too actually, and I’ve heard nothing. I emailed them on Wednesday, and nothing and I tweeted at them yesterday and nothing. The Kat Von D products pulled me in, but I’m canceling. Terrible customer service is line in the sand when there are dozens of beauty boxes out there.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

Christina I ordered mine on 06/11 and have not received mine neither. I have not heard ANYTHING from Allure. I placed an order from FabFitFun too and at least got emails from them … nothing from Allure. They took the $$ so I’m hoping I hear something by 06/26. Apparently that’s when the next wave ships? Keep me posted on if you hear anything

Reply ButtonReply

Michele

I ordered 6/8 and still nothing. I also got the other boxes I ordered from other companies at the same time.

jennyjenny

Got my box yesterday and LOVE it. I was a bit worried about the lipstick color but it looks great on. The lipliner is a bit brown in comparison to the lip color, so you just have to soften it a bit to make it work.

While I don’t agree with many of her beliefs, I do really like her products and that she doesn’t test on animals. And who knows, maybe the anti-vax thing will change.

Reply ButtonReply

kitty

never understood the likability of von d. i think she’s over hyped, coddled and liked solely for her “alternative cool girl” appearance, when in reality she’s a intolerant nut job.
had planned on giving this box to my hairdresser who loves her some kat von d, but sadly her anti vax stance has made her persona non grata so i am stuck with it.
I wish Allure had an easier way to send comments regarding the beauty boxes, because they would of gotten an earful, however Kendo Brands (Which owns the line certainly did)
Looking on the bright side I got a full size Henriksen walnut scrub out of this deal.

Reply ButtonReply

Cuz Potatoes

Allure boxes are supposed to be curated. There was nothing here that was curated except maybe the eyeliner. This box was a themed box and I would have never paid for this. Box value ~$70? We didn’t even get a full size lippie. And I don’t even understand the scrub. The entire box is literally KVD and then there’s this odd scrub to round out the minimum of five items. And the purse mirror? Seriously? Something like that is usually a freebie and it’s listed in the booklet for retail $18 but the $18 mirror on the KVD website is a full-size handheld mirror. Kat Von Disease gave us almost nothing and Allure robbed us of our usual curated box. I don’t even care about her anti-vax right now, I’m angry that she’s so stingy and Allure was like oh hey ok let’s put nothing but sample size crap in the box. Like I guess she thinks of all of us as so poor we’ll happily take the stuff she throws out? Because btw folks, spend $50 on her site and you can get the eyeliner. So it’s a freebie for anyone, not just our Allure box.

Reply ButtonReply

KITTY

The scrub is owned by the same parent company as KVD

Pammy

Sorry. To each their own. I don’t live their lives and they don’t live mine. I’m just looking forward to this box and for me-that’s as deep as it gets!😉

Reply ButtonReply

Yes, I agree. We don’t need to judge. Vaccines do have side effects. So who knows? I am not buying her beliefs but her products.

Reply ButtonReply

Pammy

My box is scheduled for delivery today!!! Sooooo excited to get it!

Melissa W.

I got my box today and noticed I have a “g” engraved on my walnut scrub? I noticed in your review, you also have a “g” engraved on your scrub… So weird, I wonder what it means and why it’s there? Does everyone have a “g” engraved on their walnut scrubs?

Reply ButtonReply

Kristina

I also had a g on mine, noticed it right away. Was planning on gifting it, but don’t want to now with the creepy g on the back.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

That’s a pretty creepy looking g!

Reply ButtonReply

jennyjenny

whats even crazier that it looks like someone had to engrave all of those by hand!

Pammy

I’ll let ya know if I have a “g” on the scrub bottle. Wonder if it stands for “gift “? (Such as free gift). Maybe that’s for store return purposes or something? Idk. Sounds like a mystery to me. Lol

Reply ButtonReply

Mallory

Mine does too!!! I got the box with the mirror. The funny thing is that I did notice it when I looked at the bottle and thought maybe it was odd,but then I just kinda brushed it off as maybe it’s a weird coincidence. Hmmm…now I’m intrigued and want to know too lol

Reply ButtonReply

Anita

I noticed that too on my Ole scrub. Maybe they’re marking things so people can’t return items?

My free gift for a new subscriber was in the box too, it’s the Tarte mascara. I was hoping for the perfume. I also got the mirror nicely packed, perfect for my purse. I don’t usually save boxes but I’m recycling this to store makeup items in

Reply ButtonReply

Pammy

Sorry. Just read your comment above. I see you were thinking the same thing about the “g mystery “! Lol

Pink5

I got my box today and the mirror arrived packed in a protective envelope.

Not a scratch.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

If I bought a 3 month gift subscription on 6/10 for my daughter, in addition to my ongoing subscription, I should get 2 of the same boxes this month and for two more months, yes? Just wondering because I only have one tracking so far.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

I will answer my own question. Just received the first of the three month gift. Email tracking sent the same day it arrived. This box had the lip liner, lipstick, eyeliner, mirror, walnut scrub, and sinner perfume.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I’m bummed!

Got my ship notification yesterday and it’s just leaving the shipping facility in Iowa. So, Saturday at the earliest.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I got lucky, got it today (Friday).

Reply ButtonReply

RR

Not excited about the K von D box. Most of that stuff I don’t need. Wanted more skincare/coverage/powder.

I finally got my “free” gift and it’s a repeat of the box i just got. What?! I hate it – i don’t need a repeat of last month’s box that wasn’t that great anyway. The customer service is just awful. Takes forever to get a response and they are so unorganized.

Reply ButtonReply

Corinne

You’re telling me that Kat’s hubby is a Luciferian? Cool. That makes this box even more intriguing!

Reply ButtonReply

Heather Schick

I’m bummed. I ordered my box in June and expected to get the Kat Von D. box, buy I didn’t get it. >(

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

You didn’t get the Kat Von D box?!! That’s the only reason I signed up for Allure …I’m new !

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

Is it possible yours just didn’t arrive yet? The first box often shows up the next month but is still the month you signed up for. I re-joined this sub in May and while I got the May box, I didn’t get it until June 11.

CHELSEA

So I double checked… And they removed the mirror D: that’s what I really wanted 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Corinne

Is there a replacement for the mirror? I don’t really need a hand mirror, but, it would be a nice complement to the collection.

Reply ButtonReply

CHELSEA

Theyre doing the liquid lip instead.

Emilia

Why won’t my comments get posted?! I had tried twice a few days ago – nothing.

Reply ButtonReply

k.benavides

I’m having the same issue!!! ugh

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

A little off subject here, but have any of you that are regular subscribers , not been billed, for this month? I haven’t, for some reason. Just wondering …

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

I was billed on the 8th.

Reply ButtonReply

Kat

Get off your soap boxes already

You don’t like her stance on something or her husbands religion…move on with your life and stop trying to force your beliefs down other peoples throats.

Do i think not vaccinating your kids is right, of course not but i am not jumping up and down having a fit about it.

No one has any right to try to tell someone their religious beliefs are wrong, end of story.

Reply ButtonReply

Mandy

Not wanting to support some celeb. who is a practicing Luciferian with a spouse is a person’s individual right.
It has to do with the money, and support of those beliefs that most people find untenable.
Likewise, I understand the push back over the Lagerfeld Glossybox. He’s recently made extremely unsavory remarks about half the world’s population- females.

If that’s all OK with some people, then maybe they lack personal convictions and boundaries. :). Tolerance has never meant blind acceptance and financial support.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

The only thing I like about Lagerfeld is his cat.

Pink5

Satanists and Luciferians are not the same religion.

Mr. von D’s religion might more closely be described as pagan.

Though I think at least some of it’s a put-on.

Michelle

So basically you know the practices and beliefs behind every dime you spend? I doubt it. While I don’t agree with everything she believes I can also say that about every other human on earth. We are all individuals, we all get to be the person we choose to be. We don’t have to conform to fit others. She runs a business, I like her products and I will buy them.

Rookala

How about the irony of an anti-vax stance vs. all the “ink vaccinations” this woman pumped into her skin – the body’s largest organ. As human beings we run the risk of infection every time the skin in pierced, which includes the process of tattooing. Everyone with a tattoo is going to breath fire at me for posting this….. be that as it may, it is what it is – a foreign substance introduced into your body via multiple needle piercings. (See Mayo Clinic’s website for the list of health risks of tattooing.)

On the topic of Allure pairing with KvD to curate this box with her products, I dont understand why some celebs need to sound off publicly about their personal beliefs. It usually isn’t good for business, especially in today’s PC-conscious world, there will always be heated discourse between those who agree and those who dont. Controversial subjects should be a common-sense topic to avoid if one is in the business of selling a product to the public. I guess Allure either doesn’t care or or isn’t afraid of turning off some subscribers due to KvD’s publicly-stated anti-vaccination views, knowing it is a hot-button issue for many people. They’re just in the business to promote the cosmetic and skin care products and brands they partner with.

If I sampled a product in a sub box and there was some controversy surrounding the manufacturer that resonated with me personally, I would think twice about making any additional outright purchases from the company. It’s true that sometimes an ill-advised comment from a high-up can taint a brand’s reputation.

Reply ButtonReply

Cat

I got told her tattoos weren’t relevant when I criticized the fact she seemed to be fine with that (also tattoo inks are largely unregulated by the FDA and a study showed 25% of a bunch of unopened inks they tested had bacteria)…and someone told me off for it. I have tattoos and love them, but yeah she’s a nutter. Haha, either way thank you for being the only other person I’ve seen so far who also questioned the tattoo hypocrisy as well lol

Reply ButtonReply

Denise

Not to mention she’s willing to tattoo people for money. But does she ask them if they had a vaccine in the past week or so ? Or is it only people that don’t give her money that have vaccine shedd ?? Stand by your beliefs if you want kat, but don’t cave when it comes to your profit margin.

Mandy

Very well said.

Reply ButtonReply

Christin

The people saying that she is entitled to her own opinions are complete opposites of KVD. Remember last year she took away a contest winners prize because of how the girl voted. She is super judgemental but can’t take others criticism on a much more serious potentially life threatening topic.
