All Around Vegan June 2018 Review

All Around Vegan is a fairly new box for me. Let’s see what they sent this month:

There was a standard information card with more details about the items in the box, including how they fit the categories nutrition, lifestyle, bath/body, and activism.

All Around Vegan June 2018 Coupon

There was a coupon for a featured brand!

All Around Vegan June 2018 Fig Bar 1 All Around Vegan June 2018 Fig Bar 2

Nature’s Bakery Gluten Free Fig Bar in Raspberry, 2 oz – Buy 6 Twin-Packs for $6.39 (found on sale here for $5.69)

I’m pretty familiar with these from other food subscription boxes. They’ve been around for awhile. But, I do buy them from the supermarket from time to time (usually not the gluten free ones) as I find them to be more pleasant than the mass-market name-brand product. These are soft and the “cookie” part is not too crumbly, although it is a bit starchy. The whole wheat ones have a less starchy cookie part if that is something you are looking for. Anyway, these are very portable, just make sure you notice that each twin pack like this is TWO servings, not just one.

All Around Vegan June 2018 Cranberry 1 All Around Vegan June 2018 Cranberry 2

I Heart Keenwah’s Cashew Cranberry Clusters, 1.5 oz – Buy 4 oz for $4.99 (found on sale here for $4)

This is another snack that’s been around for awhile, although I haven’t received it in a subscription box for some time. This is another gluten-free item (these are also non-GMO and, of course, vegan). I like them, but they are very, very hard. This is more convenient than granola because the chunks are actually big enough to pick up and eat with your fingers.

All Around Vegan June 2018 Almond 1 All Around Vegan June 2018 Almond 2

I Heart Keenwah’s Almond Clusters, 4 oz – Retail Value $4.99 (found here for $4)

These have basically the same texture as the previous ones (so, hard) but without a slightly fruity taste running through them. This variety has a little less sugar per serving than the cashew cranberry ones, and a little more fiber, both of which are nice. This is a full-size product (the other was a sample) and comes in a resealable pouch.

All Around Vegan June 2018 Hippeas 1 All Around Vegan June 2018 Hippeas 2

Hippeas in Sriracha Sunshine, 1 oz – Buy 12, 4 oz bags for $35.88

Ah, Hippeas. These are this year’s Beanitos. As in, they show up in tons and tons of food boxes. I have to say, though, that I am happy to see a flavor I haven’t received before. These have a little bit of kick to them from the sriracha flavoring. They have a satisfying crunch, as well. Think of them as being kind of like Snapea Crisps but made from chickpea flour, instead.

All Around Vegan June 2018 Book 1 All Around Vegan June 2018 Book 2

But My Family Would Never Eat Vegan by Kristy Turner – Retail Value $24.95 (found on sale here for $14.92)

This box was really heavy when I picked it up and I think having a full cookbook in there is why. This is not a cookbook I was familiar with before, and I don’t already have it (I have an excessive number of cookbooks). My husband and I sometimes get in a rut when it comes to dinners and this has already given us a few ideas. (Although, I have to admit, nut-based “cheese,” which seems common here, has not worked for me in the past.  I’m willing to give it another try, though.) The author is gluten free but the recipes, themselves, don’t push that viewpoint (though there are GF options if you need those).

All Around Vegan June 2018 Jason

Jason Purifying Tea Tree Soothing First Aid Gel, 4 fl oz – Retail Value $4.99 (found on sale here for $2.79)

I’ve heard of this brand before (I think I have tried their mouthwash before) but this product is new to me. This has witch hazel and tea tree oil, so it is slightly antibacterial and a little bit astringent. It also has menthol, which provides a cooling sensation, and it has some calming plant extracts. It can be used on sunburn (which I never get) or insect bites or razor nicks, which I do sometimes end up with, though I don’t have any at the moment. I don’t have any irritations or cuts to try this on at the moment so I am keeping it sealed for now so that it will be good for future use. It is definitely an appropriate summer item!

All Around Vegan June 2018 Sunscreen

Nature’s Gate Face Sunscreen, SPF25, 4 fl oz – Retail Value $11.49 (found on sale here for $7.06)

This is a new brand for me. Although it says “face” in the name, I am using it on my arms because it does have some chemical sunscreens (octinoxate and octocrylene) in addition to zinc oxide. I have some sensitivities to some chemical sunscreens (not all) but I figure, this is a generously sized package so I can test my reaction on my arms before using it on my face. (So far, so good, but it can take a couple of weeks for me to have a reaction based on past experience.) This also has tomato extract and some other antioxidants, which I’m always happy to see in skincare items. This does not leave a white cast on my arms (but I am really pale so I can’t speak as to what it would look like on someone with darker skin).

All Around Vegan June 2018 Poster 1 All Around Vegan June 2018 Poster 2 All Around Vegan June 2018 Poster 3

Posters Against Cruelty, 3 Posters

I haven’t listed a value here because you can download these and print them for free. I basically consider getting them in the box an awareness issue – I had no idea this website existed before, and now I do. These have little tear-off tags at the bottom with web addresses for more information. I think these are going to go over a little better than last month’s stickers because there are plenty of places (especially in urban environments) where it seems to be allowed to put up posters  as long as you are not permanently altering a surface (or making a mess for someone to clean up). There were tear-off posters all over the place when I was in college, for example, and there are always community bulletin boards in coffee shops and such.

(For the record, I have never liked bacon. I stopped eating meat about 25 years ago when I went to Australia, bottle-fed a baby lamb, and then was served a lamb burger for lunch. So the baby animal thing does work with some people, and that little pig is cute.)

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for All Around Vegan this month because some of the items were not available for individual purchase. This subscription costs $42.45 (with shipping), and the MSRP of the book + the retail value for the sunscreen add up to over $36. That doesn’t even take into consideration values for the snacks or first aid gel! So I feel comfortable with the retail value here, balanced against the subscription price. I also feel that this box really attempts to stay true to its stated mission and values. In terms of “activism,” it helps to look at a few months’ worth of reviews to see if those items will be your style (occasionally they are a big portion of the box’s value, but not always). In general, the food and bath/body/beauty products have been quite good and should probably work for a lot of different people.

I’ve actually seen this cookbook before and almost purchased it. My brother is a vegan and we usually eat dinner as a family but my mom has had a really difficult time adjusting to the change. I’m consistently impressed with the range of items that this box sends.

I love meat but I also like vegan food. This box seems boring though. I would be interested in the cookbook but the snacks are nothing special. They can be found in most stores.

I’m confused this is listed as the June review but then the wrap up says:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now, you’ll get the June box (ships June 1st) as your first box.

Just a typo. You’d get the July box. Sorry about that.
