Walmart recently released six Beauty Favorites Boxes, and I immediately got my hands on this Love My Curls box! Curly hair is usually neglected in the subscription box game, so I was excited to try a box just for curly hair.

This box is now sold out.

Walmart Beauty Favorites Love My Curls Box Review

On the back of the box came details on the products included.

HASK Coconut Milk & Organic Honey Curl Care Deep Conditioner, 1.75 oz - Retail Value $1.77

Even though this is a foil packet, there is a substantial amount of product inside and I will be able to get multiple uses out of this. The directions called for leaving this in wet hair for ten minutes, but I didn't have ten minutes worth of things to do in the shower. After about five minutes I rinsed it out, and I was still happy with the results. It provided great slip for combing out my hair, and my hair felt soft and hydrated.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch Up Crème, 4 oz

John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch Up Crème, 4 oz - Estimated Value $7.47

I normally go to sleep with my hair wet and in a bun on the top of my head, and when I wake up and let my hair down the curls fall prettily. Sometimes, though, if I toss and turned a lot the night before there can be some frizz. I have been using this in the morning by putting a small amount in my hands and then running my fingers through my hair. I am happy with how this has been working for me, and I will continue to use this in the mornings. Just be sure to use a little bit at a time so you don't weigh your curls down!

Curls Unleashed Shea Butter & Mango Leave-In Conditioner, 1.75 oz

Curls Unleashed Shea Butter & Mango Leave-In Conditioner, 1.75 oz - Retail Value $1.77

Like the Hask, the amount of product in this foil packet is impressive, and I will get multiple uses out of this. This leave-in conditioner was solid but not spectacular, but I believe if you have tighter coils or kinky-curly hair this product will perform better for you. My curls aren't tight enough to really benefit from what this leave-in conditioner is trying to do, which is elongating and stretching your curls.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie, 3.2 oz

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie, 3.2 oz - Estimated Value $3.72 (buy the full-size version for $6.97)

Shea Moisture is one of the better drugstore curly-hair lines, and this hair cream is pretty standard for me, performance wise. It helps my curls hold and is soft and doesn't cause tangles, but ultimately it doesn't wow me.

TRESemme Extra Hold Mousse, 2 oz

TRESemme Extra Hold Mousse, 2 oz - Estimated Value $0.94 (buy the full-size version for $4.92)

I used this when I was younger and still trying to figure out how to deal with my hair. I am older and wiser now, but I still agree with younger me on this one. Since this mousse is crazy strong, you sacrifice soft hair for hold, and you are left with some crunchy curls. The holding power is impressive, but the tradeoff isn't worth it to me.

Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Shampoo, 3.3 oz - Estimated Value $1.52 (buy the full-size version for $5.98)

Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Conditioner, 3.3 oz - Estimated Value $1.77 (buy the full-size version for $6.97)

I don't normally like drugstore shampoo and conditioners for my hair, but this set surprised me. Both are made with aloe vera juice and coconut water, so my curls were really hydrated after using.  They also smell a little of coconut, and it really does take me back to when I was visiting Maui this time last year. The shampoo didn't leave my hair feeling stripped or dry, and the conditioner provided great slip when I was combing through my hair. I would buy this set again, which is a big win for me.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner, 3.2 oz

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner, 3.2 oz - Estimated Value $3.72 (buy the full-size version for $6.97)

I used this after using both the shampoo and conditioner from Maui moisture and then threw my hair up in a bun to dry. Y’all that combination is sorcery because my hair was so soft and smooth. I couldn't stop running my fingers through my hair, and I may consider buying the full-size version of this when this is all gone. As a side note, this was Duchess’s favorite from the box.

The Verdict: I am really happy with theWalmart Beauty Favorites Love My Curls! I found some new curly hair products that impressed me, and it is hard to try new curly hair products because you usually can only get them in the full-size version, and that gets expensive quick. Hopefully, Walmart brings this back in stock so more people can buy it— I may even grab a second box if they do!. Value-wise, the box is promised to be valued at over $29, however by my math I calculated a value of $22.68. That is a pretty big gap, however, I still feel like the box is worth it for $15.87 ($9.88 + $5.99 shipping).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is sold out. Sign-up for an in-stock alert here.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $15.87 ($9.88 for the box + $5.99 shipping) and is worth $22.68, which means that you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Hask: $1.24
  • John Freida: $5.23
  • Curls Unleased: $1.24
  • Shea Moisture Leave-In: $2.60
  • Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie: $2.60
  • TREsemme Mousse: $0.66
  • Maui Moisture Shampoo: $1.06

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I don’t use silicone on my hair any more so I have to read the list of ingredients for each product. I know Maui moister is silicone-free but not sure about the rest.

I find them in store, so no shipping charge.

They still have all the $10 boxes in my store but I’m kinda bummed mine because they doesn’t carry the full size versions of half the stuff in the box.

If you don’t mind my asking, what do you normally use on your hair? My daughter (almost 9) has amazingly beautiful curls (often compared to Shirley Temple or Orphan Annie) and I’m struggling to find a good routine for her. I have pin straight hair so I’m used to being able to grab any old product for myself. I keep passing her all of my box products. 🙂

Might have to check out that Maui Moisture. I had tried a Shea Moisture set and ended up passing it to my other daughter who inherited my hair.

Anne research the Curly Girl method. That might be helpful in learning how to care for your daughter’s hair. I’ve been following it for almost 2 years and I can tell such a difference in my curls.

I still don’t have my Winter box, and it is now Summer! And they are spending their time creating special LE boxes instead of filling the backlog???

Meadow

I never received my winter either, even after a few emails. I did get my spring box a few days ago though.
