Trunk Club For Women March 2018 Review

My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.

They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.

Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.

Collarless Denim Jacket by Rebel Wilson X Angels, Size 2x - Retail Value $79

I love stretch denim, so I was definitely interested in trying out this Rebel Wilson X Angels jacket. The jacket certainly has ample stretch and with the vanity sizing I have come to find from the brand, I could have stood to go with a 1x. Unfortunately, the jacket at the 2x was a bit bulky on me and I prefer jackets with collars. This piece is a great staple item and will pair great with your favorite jeans and t-shirts, but also will look excellent with casual dresses and wedges for the workplace and relaxed Sunday Funday hangouts. I have a black denim jacket already, so I ultimately passed on this piece.

Floral Smocked Cold Shoulder Dress by GLAMOROUS

Floral Smocked Cold Shoulder Dress by GLAMOROUS, Size 22W - Retail Value $79

Last month I received a star design top from the GLAMOUROUS brand. This piece is very different stylistically and aesthetically from the previous one I reviewed, so it is nice to see this brand’s range. I love the mustard color of this dress - it is absolutely one of my favorite colors! The yellow is so warm and the fuschia floral pattern complements it extremely well. The material is light and flowy; rather ideal for the summer months. I am curious how the size twenty would have looked on since the dress was a tad oversized on me. Plus, I wonder if the back of my bra would still be exposed in a smaller size. I didn’t realize how big it was on me till I saw how it looked on the Nordstrom site’s model. This dress would look fantastic with tan summer booties or with pumps and a long beaded necklace for that special date!

Denim Body- Con Dress by Rebel Wilson X Angels, Size 22W - Retail Value $129

YOU, GUYS! OMG! This may be my favorite piece Stefania has EVER selected for one of my Trunk Club boxes! All those exclamation points were necessary, don’t you agree? The cut of this dress is so flattering. It was a tad loose under the arms, so I do wonder how the 20 would have fit. The denim material is thick, yet incredibly soft with ample stretch. What I also love about this piece is how versatile it is. You know me, I like getting a lot of wear out of my clothing and getting a better value! I know I could wear this in the warmer months without a shirt underneath, but in cooler months and when I am at my office job I could wear it with shirts underneath. I took a lot of inspiration in my styling of this dress from my friend, Jamie (of JamieJetaime.com), who is a blogger and has posted quite a few pics of herself in this glorious dress. I styled it with hoop earrings, my new favorite (and comfiest) shoes, as well as a hat, bracelet, and bag from CHC Vintage Accessories (review coming soon!). As fantastic as this dress is and all the wear I would get from it, I had to pass it up due to the $129 price tag. Heartbreaking, right?

Slim Leg Overall by Addition Elle Love and Legend  Size 24W—Retail Value $125

When I initially saw these overalls I initially cringed a bit because I was immediately hit with a sea of flashbacks from my awkward middle school years. I had quite the collection of bib overalls in denim and corduroy. My favorite ones were a medium wash denim pair by Calvin Klein that I found at good ol’ Marshalls. It was the 90s after all! TLC wore them and made them look so cool!  My mom ended up inheriting them from me and legit wore them till they disintegrated. Here we are again! It is funny how fashion comes back full circle, eh? I was surprised that I ended up enjoying these overalls so much. It could be due to the modern style of the bib on these; they aren’t nearly as bulky and fare more flattering than the ones I had as a pre-teen. I am not used to wearing baggy pieces, so this was an interesting departure also. I opted to style these overalls two ways to show how diverse they can be.

First, style is cutesy, fun, and more comical featuring a John Waters Dreamlanders themed t-shirt I got from Etsy years ago, jellies, hoop earrings, and oversized green cat eye glasses.

The second look is more refined and sassy with a black scoop top, aviator sunglasses, hoop earrings, and black open-toed shoes. These overalls could be worn for a casual hang out or a date depending on how they are styled!

Floral Kimono Jacket by Evans Size 22W - Retail Value $79

I am a big fan of kimonos, but mainly as robes to wear with my swimsuits in the summertime. I mean, they just add a touch of glamour to any suit! This long-sleeved kimono is made of a lightweight fabric that isn’t as sheer as some I have tried on in the past. I decided to pair the kimono with the Addition Elle overalls and black top for an ultra-90s Blossom Russo meets Clarissa Darling ensemble. Just get me a large brimmed hat with sunflowers on it, and I am set!

Harley Release Hem Skinny Jeans by City Chic in Nectar, Size 22W—Retail Value $89

You know that meme of Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost where she is saying,” You are in danger, girl!’ That is what I thought of when I tried these pants on. I truly wanted to love these pants. I wanted to give them a try because the pastel shade intrigued me and was out of my comfort zone. Alas, the cut of these were just odd on my figure. Maybe I need a smaller size? I am not sure because the cut on these fit me SO strangely. I styled these pants with a vintage flowered Peter Pan collar with matching jelly shoes to achieve a Marcia/Jan Brady inspired look. Though these pants weren’t my cup of tea, that doesn’t mean they won’t look dreamy on another bodacious babe! These pants would look awesome with a white eyelet off the shoulder top, jewel detailed sandals, and an ice cream cone in hand for an ultra-sweet summertime ensemble.

X Living in Yellow Elizabeth One- Shoulder Ruffle Top in Tangerine Size 2x

X Living in Yellow Elizabeth One- Shoulder Ruffle Top in Tangerine, Size 2x - Retail Value $54

Well, it is time for me to invest in a new strapless bra. Regardless of my bra strap showing, I am not a fan of this shirt. If I did want to keep this top, I certainly would need to size down; it’s far too big on me especially for the style. This top is immensely stretchy, so sizing down, fortunately, wouldn’t be an issue either. I see this new summer trend surfacing, instead of two cold shoulders, you get one. This top’s style is a mish-mosh of a top that Debbie Harry from Blondie meets Naomi Harper from Mama’s Family would have rocked. Even though this piece isn’t my favorite, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t look amazing on another bodacious babe. This could look fantastic tucked into a black pencil skirt with leopard print heels for a sassy Boss Lady going on a date after work ensemble!

Eyelet Bell Sleeve Top in Navy by Caslon, Size 2x—Retail Value $69 (On sale for $46.23!)

I am a fan of bell sleeve pieces, so I sense that is why Stefania sent this piece my way. The top is a mix of textiles: the majority of the top is a stretchy, knit top with belled eyelet cotton cuffs, and a crocheted panel down the middle of the shirt. The top is a bit plain, but would pair great with skinny jeans and Swedish Hasbeen style wooden heeled clogs for a casual Bohemian look. I layered the top over a dress I styled in my April Gwynnie Bee review and my go-to low heeled open toed sandals.

Verdict: This month had some hits and misses, but I overall enjoyed Stefania’s selections. The City Chic pants, Tangerine off the shoulder top, and bluebell sleeved tops were my least favorite of the bunch due to style and fit. However, I loved the denim pieces Stefania sent my way, especially the Rebel Wilson dress! It killed me to pack that baby up, but I couldn’t justify the $129 price tag. I am going to stalk the Nordstrom site in hopes that dress goes on a drastic summer sale! Fingers crossed, bodacious babes! I do appreciate the Trunk Club service because it conveniently delivers their high-end brands to you directly. Did you know they offer free pick up from UPS as well? That’s pretty fantastic! In addition, I will always gush about their app. It is the easiest way to communicate and give feedback to your stylist on your boxes!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the six items inside is $683. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box would also be applied to the purchase. That’s an average $85.38 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

Stuff looks great, but my thought is you can get this stuff for less off the rack in Peter Harris or even (spare me) WalMart. Also, again my age, most of the stuff looks smaller than it says it is…have they downsized sizes yet again?

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Andrea! Well, I think you can find a lot of similar pieces at different retailers for sure. Quality can vary. I am miffed because I just found cute overalls on Shoedazzle, but they are entirely sold out. I never thought would love overalls again?!? Haha

I am not sure. Sizing can be all over the place. I legitimately am all over the place in terms of sizing.

Awe, Kimby! Thank you! You will love that shirt even more when I tell you I met Traci Lords at the Burger Boogaloo in that top! That shirt was a hit at the event, man!

Bret

Is it wrong that my favorite thing you wore in those photos is that kick-butt John Water’s pink flamingos shirt! I loved it!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Bret! I don’t wear that shirt nearly enough tbh. I bought it a few years back specifically to wear at the Burger Boogaloo! John Waters started hosting it the second year of it and I always go buckwild dressing up for it. That top was an amazing etsy find for sure!

Thank you, Ragan! I feel like yellow doesn’t get enough love!

I loved all these looks on you except the yellow dress I am not a big fan of yellow anything. This would be the box I would go for if I needed a clothing box. I think where you live plays a big part in if clothing boxes are a good fit for you. When I lived in Rural Illinois I would of loved these, because it was tough to get quality clothing. Now, I live close to Destin Florida with tons of stores and resell shops so have no need. I must say though I loved these looks and it for sure gave me idea’s. I think you are very beautiful and love you hair!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Totally, Shari! I certainly can see that being the case. I swear, I am the type of person you can take anywhere and I will find clothing I like. Well. Not anywhere. There is a lot of frumpy clothing shops out there! But I still somehow manage to find goodies! Hahaha. We have a ton of shopping options out here and lots of affordable ones too. I just am a clothing horse.

And thanks for the kind words!

Jenni

There are some really cute pieces there. I especially think the blue and red shirts look fantastic on you. I am confused about how this works though. So if I understand right you pay them $25 to send you clothes and if you want to buy something out of the bunch they apply that to it? So what happens if you don’t want to get anything, do you lose out on your $25? Also, they charge retail price for everything? I’m a bargaintista so I rarely pay full price for things so paying $130 for a dress, cute as that dress is, doesn’t appeal to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Jenni! Yeah, there is a $25 styling fee. If you don’t buy anything then that money isn’t applied to what you buy. I am always looking for the best buys myself, but the beauty of lots of these sub boxes is you can tell them your budget on pieces. Most have that included on their surveys. Check out my other sub box reviews. You may find one that fits you well!
