Switch is a jewelry rental service that lets you try out designer jewelry without the commitment. You pick your favorite pieces and try them out for as long as you want with a monthly fee. This is a review of the 3 pieces at a time plan.

Switch also offers the option to purchase jewelry pieces at a discounted member price. For every month that you’re a member, you get a $10 credit that you can use towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry at the special member price.

The order is contained in a sturdy black box, perfect for safe storage of these borrowed pieces.

Switch will always use USPS First Class mail to send your jewelry unless it weighs more than 1 pound. Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you’re the nervous type. Shipping is free both ways, and they just ask that you package it just as you received it to return to them. It’s important to save the mailer and packaging for your return.

Switch Subscription Box May 2018 Review

The order is topped with a bunch of different info cards. The first explains how you should take care of your jewelry.

The next card provides instructions on what to do when you’re ready to switch.

The sent with love card explains that prior to receiving the jewelry, each piece has been cleaned and sanitized, had its authenticity guaranteed, as well as some other info about the subscription. Minor wear and tear is covered as well!

The final two inserts explain how you can refer a friend (for each friend you refer you get an additional $10 towards your membership) and how to purchase pieces if you fall in love with one of them.

When you activate your subscription, you get to select the pieces that you want to receive from their available inventory:

DO NOT DISTURB Diamond Small Bow Ring (Size 7) – Retail Value $595.00, Member Price $495.00

This beautiful, delicate diamond ring is made of 14k white gold and diamonds (TCW 0.087-0.072). This is a perfect right-hand ring, and easy breezy to add to any outfit for a daily look. I really want to add this to my collection – but can’t justify it right now – and would probably want it a ½ size smaller if I were going to invest the $495 in this ring. It’s slightly big on my right-hand ring finger, where I prefer to wear this style. To be honest, I wasn’t familiar with this brand before but liked this ring so much that I’ll be looking to borrow more pieces from this designer in the future!

CHLOE Fringe Bracelet – Retail Value $660.00, Member Price $462

This hinged bracelet is made of gold-tone brass with ringed chains on the front half of the bracelet, it has a secure clasp and each ringed fringe piece has a small heart detail on the end. I have the S/M size, which has an inner circumference of 6 inches (with no give). It fit perfectly on my wrist and was comfortable and secure to wear.

This was a fun piece to wear around town – and I styled it a variety of ways – from dressy to casual. One day, I wore it with a white tee and jeans. Another, I wore it with an all-black jumpsuit and large gold earrings to make more of a statement.

This piece is a prime example of the beauty of this membership. Would I spend $660 dollars of my own hard-earned money on a trendy, brass, designer fringed piece of jewelry? Probably not. But would I borrow it for $29 for a month? You’re darn-tootin’ I would.

CHANEL CC Simple Earrings – Retail Value $500.00, Member Price $350.00

These earrings are gold-plated metal clip-on earrings, that measure around 0.8” in diameter. I loved the way these earrings popped against my dark hair and felt super fancy wearing the Chanel logo around. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize when I selected them for one of my picks that they were clip-ons, and as someone with 2 holes in each ear – I’m just not used to wearing clip-on earrings and found them super uncomfortable. Around lunchtime, I had to take them off and put them in my purse because my ears were throbbing. I won’t be borrowing any more clip-ons in the future – Chanel or not. They weren’t heavy – and if clip-ons are your thing, you would probably love them!

The Verdict: I would be hard-pressed to ever have a bad feeling about a subscription that lets me borrow essentially unlimited amounts (you can switch your pieces at any time, and have 3 pieces out for $69/month) of this type of jewelry from luxury brands. The only critical piece that I can say is that there are some pieces I’ve seen on the site that I’d love to try, but are always out as borrowed. Those are very much first world problems though – and there are always a ton of great pieces to choose from! In this shipment, I tried out $1,755 of jewelry for $69 – which is about 3.9% of their retail value. ‘nuff said.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription, meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list. It’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

Value Breakdown: These three pieces cost $69.00 to rent, which is a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too). To rent just one piece per month is $29.00, so you’re saving about $6.00 per piece to go for the larger subscription.

The member price for all 3 of these pieces is $1,307.00 in total. At retail, they’d cost $1,755.00. Members also get $10.00 to put towards a piece, so that’s $1,297.00 to buy everything, which is around a 25% discount. I am not buying anything this month, but if I were – it would be the ring.

Love the idea of this box, but I would be terrified about wearing a piece and losing it!!
