Sweet Sparkle March 2018 Review

This month is all about warming up your look for summer. Let’s see what they included.

Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Info Front Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Info Back

Each month, an info card is included with an intro to the theme and the product names, descriptions, and retail values. This month’s theme is “Blooming Bronze”.

Dome Diamond Shadow Metallic Eye Color in Copper - Retail Value $29

Wow, the retail value of this shadow is high for a single shadow! Its formula is soft and silky and can be used wet or dry. I feel like the shade is more of an orangey-gold than copper which I probably would have liked better. I don’t love super warm metallics with my skintone. It does apply and blend pretty well and would be perfect for a pop of color on the inner lid or tapped over darker shadow.

Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Blush Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Blush Open Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Blush Detail

Be a Bombshell Baked Blush in Teacher’s Pet - Retail Value $8

This blush looks like a light lilac in the pan but applies super sheer and with a mauve tone. There is a hint of subtle gold shimmer in the finish. This is not really something I’d reach for because it feels pretty dry and chalky in the pan and on my face.

Makeup Love Lipreme Gloss in Diamond in the Buff - Retail Value $15

I’m pretty happy with the formula of this gloss. It’s moisturizing, not sticky, and lasts a while. The sheer shade has a blue tone shimmer that washes my lips out when worn alone. It does look pretty layered over matte lip colors though. Points for cute packaging too.

E.L.F. Intense Ink Eyeliner in Blackest Black - Retail Value $4

I have no problems with E.L.F when I’m looking for an inexpensive makeup product. Actually, their brow pencil is one of my go-tos. But, I don’t love seeing it in a makeup sub box. That said, I liked this liner. The felt tip looks super large but works well for getting a sharp wing and the black is rich and matte. I’m impressed with the staying power too.

LA Splash Mascara Catwalk in Black - Retail Value $18

The things I like about this mascara: the curved wand, which helps to apply to even tiny lashes; the intense black color; the shiny packaging. The problem with this mascara is that is doesn’t do much for my lashes. I don’t get the separation or length I want and I think it is because the formula is kind of dry. This is the main reason I’ve moved away from waterproof mascaras.

Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Swatches

Swatches of the makeup (top to bottom): lipgloss, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and blush.

Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Face

Sweet Sparkle March 2018 - Eyes

Here I’ve done my version of “Blooming Bronze”. I’m not very impressed. I don’t think the mix of warm and cool tones work well together. Most of the products just didn’t perform that well.

Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Blooming Bronze” box has a value of $74 plus free shipping. While that value seems fair for this box, the quality of the items just isn’t there for me. I actually liked the E.L.F. liner best which is the least expensive items of the box. All of the items, as always, are full-sized and coordinated to create an entire look. I do like the idea of including everything for the themed look though this month the look didn’t work for me.

Great review! I love how you show what the makeup looks like on instead of just swatched. This is not a box I would like but I’m sure my 17 yr old nieces would love it.

I got that mascara in my Lola box and felt the exact same way u do! I’d put it on but nothing happens. U just keep applying and applying and then ur like why am I trying this hard for something that is this bad? Lol so im glad I’m not the only one who thought that way about that mascara I just couldn’t put my finger on it. But this mascara just doesn’t work at all for me bc it’s just so dry

You really do look beautiful in the above pictures. I agree though, that the quality of the included makeup is definitely questionable!

The theme is blooming in bronze, but they only include one item that is in that color range? A cool tone blush and lip gloss seems an odd choice in relation to their theme. I like the idea of being able to create a whole look from the box, but this doesn’t make sense to me. I would have expected a bronzer, and other bronze or warm tones for the other products. It’s like they mixed up two different looks and didn’t bother to fix it. Very strange.

Wow you look gorgeous! Love this look on you

I actually liked this look on Liz, and did not feel as if the products were bad one’s. I actually do not mind getting a low end product in a box to try, if it turns out to be a great product it is a win. Inexpensive and effective! As an older woman I have learnt quality does not always equal expensive designer items.

Thanks LOL I have my ladies wrong!

Thus sub makes no sense to me. It looks like a pile of Dollar General makeup that might add up to $20.

Michelle

I so agree!! This all looks like Dollar store makeup. No thanks.

I love the darker roots and eyebrows. Their beautiful and standout more. I thought you looked subtle and pretty. That look would be pretty with a white sun dress and to the beach look. You looked stunning.
