RescueBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). They are associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more), and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

RescueBox April 2018 Review

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box and more information on The RescueBox’s charity efforts.

There was also a flyer relating to pet insurance. Somehow, I think the pet insurance companies would run screaming when they heard about my animals and their issues…

Iced Donut by Preppy Puppy

Iced Donut by Preppy Puppy – Listed Value $5.99

Preppy Puppy is wholesale only so you can’t look up prices online. You do get a lot of their stuff in this box, though. This donut is a hard cookie-type material and honestly, it looks pretty enough that I almost want to eat it.

Pupsavers Toy by Lulubelles

Pupsavers Toy by Lulubelles – Retail Value $15 (found here for $11.97)

This is a plush toy that is surprisingly durable. There is an extra layer of mesh inside that is supposed to help keep it in one piece. Nyx has played with this a few times so far and it actually still has all the stuffing.

Twisted Chews Two Knot Rope by Petsport USA

Twisted Chews Two Knot Rope by Petsport USA – Listed Value $7.99

This exact item is hard to find from a US-based seller so I’ve used the value from the information card, which is not so out of line with similar items. Nyx loves rope toys. This one is a bit too short to tug (at least for a dog with a mouth as big as hers), but she enjoys chewing on it.

Maple Bacon Sweet Potato Sticks by Snack Station – Estimated Value $11.97

I found a retail store here that lists these as $3.99 each and we got a three pack. These have a simple ingredients list (sweet potato, citrus fiber, bacon, and maple) and are completely grain free. They’re also suitable for large breed dogs, though do watch your pet at least the first time you give one.

Tender Taffy by Jones Natural Chews – Retail Value $3.79 (found here for $2.65)

These are soft (not sticky like real taffy) and made in the USA. They do have some rye flour, so they are not grain free, but even many allergic dogs will be able to handle rye as it is actually kind of an unusual ingredient for dog treats. You can break them into smaller pieces so they are suitable for dogs of various sizes. (I like how RescueBox is sticking with the theme here by sending a treat with the name of a sweet thing!)

Here is Nyx playing with the Pupsavor:

Verdict: I calculated a value of $44.74 for April’s RescueBox (using a few estimates and information card values, as needed). That is about $15 over the cost of the subscription on a month-to-month basis, which is good. The toys were reasonably durable (maybe not for the *most* destructive of dogs) and the treats avoided problematic ingredients like wheat, corn, and soy. Plus, many of the items were new to us, which was nice.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would be May.

Coupon - For a limited time, use coupon code RB15 to save 15% off any length subscription! Or, use coupon code FREEISGOOD to get a FREE Deluxe Mystery Box with your first RescueBox when you sign up for a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription! (Regularly $29.95 per month)

Value Breakdown: At a box price of $29.95, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Donut treat $4.01
  • Pupsavers toy $10.04
  • Rope toy $5.35
  • Sweet potato chews $8.01
  • “Taffy” treat $2.54

Nix is just adorable in these photos! I need to try this box out on my 3 boxers and see how they fair with the toys.
