Mickey Monthly Theme Park Edition April 2018 Review

When you open the box there is a lot of paper filler and there are no inserts or list of items so you have to dig through it all to make sure you find everything. This month we received 4 items. As usual, my kids were ready and waiting to see what was inside!

Disney Piece of Magic Pocket Token Coin- Peace Love Mickey - Estimated Value $4 (Based on a site that shops for authentic merchandise from parks and ships it to you)

This little token is about an inch high and an inch wide. It is meant to give you a piece of Disney magic to carry with you. It came in this nice satiny, Cinderella-blue bag. The front features a peace sign while the back says “Peace Love Mickey.” This would be a nice little souvenir from the park itself, so I can see why they included it in the box.

Mickey Shaped Rice Krispie Treat with mini peanut butter chips - Estimated Value $6.00

Well, this is my third Mickey Monthly box and the third time I have received one of these Mickey-shaped Rice Krispie treats. While the others were covered with mini M&Ms, this one seems to be covered in tiny peanut butter chips. This is only a guess based on taste (which was fairly mild) since there is no card or tag attached to it which means no nutritional information or expiration date either.

The treat was pretty tasty - there is a layer of chocolate underneath the peanut butter chips that help them stick to the treat. I really enjoyed the combination of krispie treat, chocolate, and peanut butter and it was in the cute iconic Mickey shape which is very fitting for this box.

Disney Parks 4 Disney Food Magnets - Retail Value $14.16, Listed Value $12.99

These were super cute and my kids went crazy for them…mostly because they thought they were really made of chocolate at first. Once they discovered that these were magnets, they got even more excited though. They played with these for the rest of the day since to a 3-year-old and an almost 2-year-old, fake food is fun!

Since this was a box for an adult, I think these were still good to include. I feel like as many fridge magnets as we have I am always searching for just one more! These are a great way to put a little Disney Magic front and center in your life. They are well made, soft and flexible and cute.

On the back of the bag was a price tag from Disney Parks, so I believe that these were really purchased there, but I was also able to find the same magnets on Amazon. This was disappointing since everything in the box is supposed to be exclusively sold at Disney Parks.

Disney Parks Neverland Think Happy Thoughts Vase -

Disney Parks Neverland Think Happy Thoughts Vase - Retail Value $16.99

Wrapped inside of the brown paper was this Peter Pan vase which is about 8 inches high and only 2 inches wide. The design is very simple but still features some classic Disney characters. I love that it just has their silhouettes and of course the sweet quote “Think Happy Thoughts.” I think this would be a great gift for someone along with a nice bouquet of flowers. This was something unique and useful to receive and I thought it was a decent addition to the box.

So once again this has the Disney Parks price tag on the bottom, but I was also able to find this vase on eBay and other online shops. That means another item that is not exclusive to Disney Parks which really takes away from the value of the box for me. You are supposed to be paying for items that you can’t get yourself unless you visit the theme park, but 2 out of the 4 items were easily found for sale online.

Verdict: This month’s Mickey Monthly Theme Park Edition was a good mix of items and I think they were appropriate for an adult, but my kids definitely enjoyed the magnets and treat, too. I estimate the value of this box to be about $41.15. The cost of the box is $59.44 ($49.99 +$9.45 shipping) which is around an $18 difference.

The draw of this box is that it is supposed to bring you items that you can only find at the actual theme park and the value in that is supposed to offset the fact that you are only receiving about a 55% return on the cost of the box most of the time. Our return was actually a little higher at around 69%, but I was able to find two out of the four items online, which really takes away from the exclusivity of the box. Fortunately, they were two items that will get used, but that doesn't make up for the huge gap in value. We got a better value from the Mickey Monthly Theme Park Edition Snacks Only Box we received last month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your box will be different based on your customization choices!

Value Breakdown: At $49.99 + $9.45 shipping to MD for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Token: $5.78
  • Rice Krispie Treat: $8.67
  • Magnets: $20.45
  • Vase: $24.54

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

for me personally any Disney item is always way over priced and I would rather go without I went to Disney land as a child and remember even back then my parents thought the treats were a crazy price

I agree with the former Cast member…this stuff seems “discontinued” or not legit. Way too much money for dollar store items. I love the Disney brand and hate to see people tarnish it like this.

Park exclusive doesn’t mean that someone isn’t buying and reselling. Disneyana is a real thing and people do it all the time, you can basically find any park exclusive item online if you look hard enough.

And I also agree with the cast member that this doesn’t seem official. Official Disney is always Disney branded (see the Disney Treasure’s Funko box.)

So if you actually were to go on their Facebook Page you can actually see they buy stuff from the parks from some of their photos and posts. That treat would have to be from an actual theme park or Disney Springs cause you can’t treats online or the app. I

As a former Cast Member, I’m suspicious of this box. Exclusive park items can be purchased at park store outlets. Maybe discounted or clearance items at the outlets? I would also hate to think that a Cast Member is using their discount to purchase the goods. The box doesn’t really feel official, considering it doesn’t use any phrasing other than “Mickey”.

I don’t think it’s fair that you add eBay to deny the exclusive aspect for an item. I can go to the park, buy the item and then sell it on eBay. I used to subscribe to this box and always enjoyed the items. I just think you’re being a bit picky.

Hi LorieLynn! I linked to eBay because the item is still available there, but I also found it available on Walmart.com (out of stock) which was why I felt it wasn’t as exclusive. Thanks for your comment! 🙂

You can also purchase DisneyParks stuff on the Disney store website.
