You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Lillypost April 2018 Review

Lillypost included this little note in the box about how the purchase of this box means that one book was donated to a child in need. Just a little something to make you feel good about your purchase!

My Book of Farm Noises by Kasia Nowowiejksa- Retail Value $8.95

My son (22 months) is now obsessed with this book and has it memorized! He loves all things animals so this was perfect for him. I loved that it was a longer board book with several animals on each page and different sized text to emphasize the animal sounds.

This book was fun to read with its rhyming text and colorful illustrations. The animals are all nice and large and easy to recognize. This is a new favorite in our house.

Rufus the Writer by Elizabeth Bram - Retail Value $17.99

I really loved the concept of this book! The boy in the book, Rufus, decides to have a story stand and write stories for his friends and family. He has a few visitors to his stand and writes short stories for them in exchange for various items such as a seashell.

Within the story are four short stories that Rufus writes. They are written in a font that looks like his handwriting and they talk about how he illustrates them (great vocab!). I like that they are stories similar to what a child would write, making this a more believable book. This felt so unique and I think it’s a great book to spark some creativity in younger kids to write their own stories.

Douglas, You Need Glasses! by Ged Adamson - Retail Value $16.99

This was another creative book with a fun concept! Douglas is a dog whose vision is not so great. He finds himself chasing leaves that he thinks are squirrels and make other silly mistakes due to his vision.

He visits the eye doctor and reads the chart as best as he can, but he ends up needing glasses. He tries all sorts of different pairs on until he finds the right ones. The book also featured a page of pictures of real kids with glasses. This is an excellent book for a kid who needs to get glasses for the first time. It was a funny read and we really enjoyed all of the silliness that Douglas’ poor vision created.

Verdict: I really loved our Lillypost box this month, which is starting to become a trend. The books always feel fun and unique and are incredibly engaging for both my 22-month old and my 3-year-old. I love that we have this option to get both board books and picture books in the box so that we can make everyone happy.

While I am a little sad that they changed their plan from 2 board books and 2 picture books to just 1 board book and 2 picture books for the mixed book option, the value is definitely still there. The total retail value of the books came to $43.93, and the cost of the box was $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping). I think that’s still a great deal especially for the quality of the books that we have been receiving.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
