Kids Dinosaur of the Month Club May 2018 Review
In the box, you will receive a personalized letter from Club President, Ptyler the Pterodactyl. The letter introduces the dinosaur of the month, provides pronunciation tips and gives a few facts about the featured Dino. They also tell you what dinosaur you will be receiving next month.
Included in your first box is this personalized membership certificate. To a kid, I’m sure this is fun and feels very official with the seal at the bottom and their name front and center. I couldn’t find an age group that this is targeted to on their website, but I would think it would be best for ages 4-8 depending on your child’s interest in dinosaurs? My daughter is 3 and definitely thinks it’s cool, but I think she’s a little young to appreciate all of the features. My 2-year-old son is just happy to see dinosaurs on everything!
The Dino information card is a nice feature. It’s in color and on thick, glossy paper. The letter says they have a Dino Binder to store these in, but I’m not sure if it will arrive in a monthly box or is just for purchase on their site.
DinoZone Tyrannosaurus Rex by Katie Woolley - List Price $27.25 (found here for $20.45)
The value of this book seems a little high to me, but it’s actually part of a series intended for educational use, which is probably why it costs so much.
The book itself is bright, detailed and full of glossy, colored pages. The images in the book jump out at you- they are so detailed and realistic. The information in the book itself is great and it’s presented in a fun way. I think this an awesome book for kids to use to learn about dinosaurs.
Dover Little Activity Books Dinosaur Sticker Book by A.G. Smith - Retail Value $1.99
I love little books like this for my kids. They are great to take anywhere and occupy them. The panoramic background of this book is glossy so that you can reuse and move the stickers around if you want to. There are plenty of little dinosaur stickers to fill up the pages and even some to use for other dino works of art. I love that it also has a dinosaur guide on the back so that you can tell what type of dinosaur each sticker is. Super simple and very old school, but fun!
Dover Coloring Book: Dinosaurs of the Cretaceous Era by Jan Sovak - Retail Value $3.99
The next activity book we received was this coloring book. There are 30 pages in this book and I love that it features different dinosaurs as well as showing their names and some information about them at the bottom of each page. The pages also feature landscapes in the background which means there is a lot of color.
Safari Ltd.Tyrannosaurus Rex Toy - Retail Value $9.99
This toy is obviously the best part of the box (if you’re my 2-year-old son!). It’s very detailed and realistic looking, and a great size for playing with or just for display. It’s made of hard plastic so it’s very durable and has survived multiple dinosaur attacks already from a much larger tyrannosaurus that we own. I like that his mouth is open, but not so deep that I can’t dump the goldfish back out of his mouth after my son feeds him.
Verdict: I’m not sure if all kids are as obsessed with dinosaurs as mine are, but I think Kids Dinosaur of the Month Club is a great idea. This box is very basic and no frills (which could get really fun if they ever decided to amp it up a bit!), but all the basics are there: the toy, the educational info, and the fun activities. This box costs $26.75 ($19.95 + $6.80 shipping to MD) and the total value of the items added up to $43.22. While I did think the value of the book was a little high, I still think this was a good value for all of the fun stuff we received in our box!
