Godiva has entered the subscription game, and now you can get luscious chocolate treats delivered to you every month!

open Godiva box

This subscription offers two different subscriptions: the Taste of Godiva and the Snack Lovers box. Each subscription comes in increments of 3, 6, and 12-month durations.

This review is for month two from the Snack Lovers subscription, which costs $65 for three months.

My chocolate came snuggly packed in bubble wrap surrounded by ice packs and an insulated bag! This month, however, the ice packs were completely melted.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Godiva Snack Lovers Subscription May 2018 Review

Before I show you the chocolate for this month, I would like to explain this subscription a bit more. There are four products included in the 3-month subscription. Month 1 sends you one pound of chocolate covered pretzels, month 2 sends you two specialty chocolate bars, and month 3 sends you a 6-piece dark chocolate truffle flight. The total cost for these items alone is $56, which is less than the $65 price for the three months. However, each month is shipped via UPS 2 Day delivery, which adds an extra $56.85 in shipping costs. This brings the total value of the subscription to $112.85.

Last month included a big pamphlet introducing the subscription and the products that would be included, so this month there was less paperwork. There is the included gift message envelope, a coupon, and a sheet detailing what to do if you need to contact Godiva Customer Service.

G by Godiva Milk Chocolate Bar, 2.8 oz - Retail Value $7

This chocolate bar is 42% cocoa and is perfectly smooth and creamy on the palate. The chocolate is supposedly balanced by almonds, vanilla, peaches, and apricots, however, I don't taste any of that. Maybe my chocolate palate isn't sophisticated enough? I wish this chocolate bar contained actual almond or fruit pieces to jazz it up, however, because this is a touch boring on its own. Also, this arrived to me slightly melted, as you can see from the photos. The warm-weather guarantee from Godiva means I could have just packaged this back up and sent it back to Godiva for a return or exchange, however, that honestly felt like more trouble than it was worth.

G by Godiva Dark Chocolate Bar, 2.8 oz - Retail Value $7

Normally I enjoy dark chocolate, but this 68% cocoa was just too bitter for me. This chocolate would have really benefited from having something like nuts, caramel, or fruit added to give some added flavor and texture. This didn't arrive in perfect condition either, however, a bit of time in the fridge took care of that!

The Verdict: I loved month one of this subscription, but month two wasn't the greatest. I think sending two pure bars of milk and dark chocolate is a mistake for the Snack Lovers Subscription— these would be a better fit in the Taste of Godiva box. Unfortunately, unlike last month, the chocolate arrived a touch melty even though it was packed with ice packs and shipped with the UPS 2 day delivery. Next month will be interesting, as the temperatures in Louisiana will be even hotter.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, the first month of any Snack Lovers subscription starts with a tin of chocolate covered pretzels, and in the second month, you will get these chocolate bars!

Value Breakdown: The $65 cost for 3 months breaks down to $21.67 a month, and I received $14 worth of Godiva chocolate bars shipped UPS 2 day, which would be an additional $17.95 if I didn’t purchase this subscription.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Why not just go to their boutique and get more for the splurge?

Hi Lisa!
There is no Godiva where I live (it closed about six months ago), and my mom lives in a small town and is nowhere near a Godiva. I believe this subscription is for people don’t have a local Godiva they can get to.

I understand, however, I went to their website and would be charged $59.92 for the same items in this 3 month sub and receive all in one shipment. Free shipping over $50.00 was added. My point was order what you wish for yourself or a gift. I don’t see the savings here.

Susan

Because of the cost of the shipping you can buy more chocolate for less money in the store. The bars were boring.

I love single origin dark chocolate (Filling defeats the purpose!) but I agree that maybe it’s not a fit for a snack box. If anything, i’m disappointed it’s only 68%! Best quality tends to be in the 70-72% range (I’ve even had a good 80% but that really was pushing it)

Wow! I 2 plain chocolate bars? That is not appealing for $21. Can’t believe what shipping costs and still arrives melty. I really have no idea who the target audience is that would find this sub worthwhile?

Misti

I find this sub horribly overpriced . The chocolate came melted even with ice.

I went and looked at all of the sub boxes and all of them refer to each sub as a gift to give chocolate lovers but I still would never pay that kind of money for plain chocolate bars or any kind of chocolate. I’d go buy a friend 100 Hershey bars for that price. 🙂

I’m guessing it’s probably more of a gift type of sub. I can’t imagine chocolate lovers buying this for themselves?

Oh no…the contents and value of this sub are starting to give the Oreo sub a run for its money for the “why bother?” sub box award.
