Frequency Box "Water" April 2018 Review

First of all, I'd like to thank Heart + Honey (careful, their reviews are kinda NSFW) for introducing me to Frequency! Their March box featured a New Moon Ritual Kit which I just adored and I was tickled to find out that they have their own subscription box, so I HAD to get it!

front of info card

I love that the info card mirrors the colors of the included Lapiz Lazuli Pyramid that's included!

back of info card with list of items

The back has a short paragraph on why all of the items were chosen for this month's theme which is "water". I'm a water sign (Pisces) so I was really excited to receive this one as my first box! The card also has all of the items listed out, how to use them, and their retail value.

items wrapped up

All of the more delicate items were wrapped very thoughtfully!

3 Frequency Essential Oils with crystals back of 3 Frequency Essential Oils with crystals 3 Frequency Essential Oils with crystals with caps off

Frankincense Essential Oil with Red Aventurine, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $8.99

Each one of Frequency's Essential Oils come with stones inside to boost its power. Frankincense alone promotes spiritual harmony and has been used for ages in medicinal practices to help to promote an overall feeling of well-being and satisfaction. While it isn't my favorite scent, I do like the properties it has and with the pairing of the Red Aventurine, it is supposed to unlock ancient secrets! Sign me up.

Lemon Essential Oil with Golden Jade, 0.5 oz. - Listed Retail Value $7.99

I have been really into lemon the past couple of weeks due to all of the tea I've been drinking. This essential oil smells exactly how you would assume and it paired with Golden Jade. Since lemon is refreshing and cleansing, it's perfect to use as a way to freshen up the home via a few drops in a spray bottle of water, and they even suggest adding a few drops to your garbage disposal. Overall, the lemon scent is uplifting, so it's a great way to keep yourself upbeat.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil with Rainbow Flourite, 0.5 oz. - Listed Retail Value $7.99

The final essential oil this month is eucalyptus which immediately begins to clear up my sinuses when I inhale. As predicted. this one has antiseptic properties and can help clear breathing passages so it's a good one to keep bedside when the sniffles arrive. They suggest mixing this with the lemon oil in a diffuser to make a great cleansing combo. It comes with rainbow fluorite stones in it as well.

Frequency Clarity Spray back of Frequency Clarity Spray

Frequency Clarity Spray, 4 oz. - Retail Value $8.99

Continuing this amazing tour of scents, they've included a full-size bottle of their Clarity Spray which has to be one of the best things I've ever smelled in my life. The essential oils in this blend of pink Himalayan salt water and rainbow fluorite stones are spearmint. lime, rosemary, and eucalyptus. My word, it is just so refreshing and wonderful! The directions to use this (on your body or in your space) is to shake up so the fluorite energizes the water, and focus on clearing your mind before spraying and breathing in. This has the ability to help you clear your mind to focus better, so I think I'll be leaving this in my office at work. I just love it!

3/4 view of Lapiz Lazuli Pyramid side vire of Lapiz Lazuli Pyramid another side view of Lapiz Lazuli Pyramid looking down at Lapiz Lazuli Pyramid

Lapiz Lazuli Pyramid - Listed Retail Value $14.99

Yes! I love receiving crystals, especially in this powerful pyramid form. The info card tells me that Lapiz Lazuli helps bring inner peace and clear the mind, which stays in tune with the other items of the box. It likens the deep blue coloring with golden flecks to waves crashing on a beach and I have to agree. Staring into makes me feel good, so I may also keep this one at work to keep me clear-headed. The base is two-inches squared so it's a great size as well.

bundle of lavender

Lavender Bundle - Listed Retail Value $2.00

Haha- the card for this item simply says "does lavender ever need an excuse?" Certainly not in my book! I enjoyed using lavender as part of the ritual bath from their New Moon Ritual Kit so now I know that I can use it to drop into a calming bath, or in tandem with a smudging stick to clear my space and set new intentions.

Hirschbar Water Element Soap in package Hirschbar Water Element Soap rough edge of Hirschbar Water Element Soap

Hirschbar Water Element Soap, 4 oz. - Retail Value $7.00

The featured artisan this time is Hirschbar, a husband and wife team who handcraft soaps and candles, among other things. This 100% vegan soap is made with all natural ingredients and uses cedar, juniper, sage, and lemongrass essential oils that are all associated with the Water element in Traditional Chinese 5 Element Theory to help you replenish the water aspect in your life. From their website:

The Water element represents adaptability, beauty, and diplomacy as well as our long-term goals in life. It is also linked to sociability, sympathy, and artistry. In general, the Water element is associated with the North direction and the associated body parts/organs are the kidneys, bladder, and ears.

I love that this soap has a rough edge that also happens to look like a wave with its blue hue. While dry, the soap has a very subtle pleasing scent that is not overpowering at all.

Hirschbar Water Element Candle Hirschbar Water Element Candle with lid off description for Hirschbar Water Element Candle label of Hirschbar Water Element Candle

Hirschbar Water Element Candle, 5 oz. - Retail Value $7.00

In addition to the soap that can help replenish your water aspect, they've sent a soy candle as well. This holds all of the same properties as the soap but can be lit to help replenish via scent instead of lathering up. As it says on the side of the candle, you can use this to help with career, long-term goals, and communication as well. 🙂

The Verdict: I loved my first Frequency Box and learning all about different aspects of the Water element! They sent such a great variety of items to keep your mind clear and open while staying balanced. The pyramid and clarity spray were probably my favorite items of the box, but I'm excited to put the essential oils to good use around my home as well! I can't wait to see what future boxes hold!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, no but they are now taking orders for their  June "Warming Up" box now.

Value Breakdown: For $38.24 ($33.24 + $5.00 shipping), I received 8 items that had a total retail value of $64.95. Here's essentially what you end up paying for each item:

  • Frankincense Essential Oil: $5.29
  • Lemon Essential Oil: $4.70
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil: $4.70
  • Spray: $5.29
  • Lapiz Pyramid: $8.83

Hi Sars! And welcome to the BEST site for box addicts. You will find it to be extremely informative and you might even make some friends along the way.

To answer your question, to “sub to a box” means to subscribe to it. Just like you would a magazine. There are literally hundreds of subscription boxes and each one is set up differently. Some are monthly, some are bi-monthly, and some are quarterly. There are also one-time boxes for sale, including limited edition boxes. For this particular box, it seems to be bi-monthly. So, to “subscribe” to it, just click on the link provided by the reviewer above and it should take you to the Frequency site to subscribe.

Basically, you pay for the box and it comes to you in the mail. Each box has different subscriber options. For example, you may get billed for it monthly, or you can choose to pay for 3, 6, or 12 months in advance. Paying for a longer time period usually saves you some money because most boxes offer discounts for longer subscriptions. You set up your subscription with a credit card and every time the box is about to send you a box, they take the money out. Of course, you can cancel at any time. But beware, some boxes are sometimes hard to cancel because the box company makes it confusing.

Also, make sure to look at the reviews on MSA before you buy a box. If there is a coupon or discount available, MSA always puts it in the review. And sometimes, MSA has exclusive discounts that aren’t available to the general public. So always check the blog for any possible discounts on boxes you are interested in.

As a side note, MSA has a huge directory of boxes that you can check out. It’s accessible if you look at the top of this page and click on “subscription box list”. Of course, this isn’t a complete list of sub boxes available but it comes very, very close. I would also recommend you join the forum here on MSA. You will find a lot of advice and personal reviews of boxes that may help in your decision to subscribe to a certain box or not. Plus, you get the added benefit of “meeting” some great people and making some friends.

If you decide to subscribe to boxes, you may also want to join the MSA swap page. Often times you will find that you love about 50% of a box but the other items aren’t really for you. You can put those unwanted up for “swap” and hopefully someone else will want those items and that person will have different items listed for swap that you want. Then you just mail them to each other. It’s fun and extremely useful in getting some stuff want and getting rid of stuff you don’t. You are welcome to use my swap page as an example. Just click on my name above and it will take you to my swap page and you can see what I have available for swap.

I hope this is helpful to you. I didn’t mean to give you too much information and to be honest, I could have said A LOT more lol. But hopefully this gets you started. Good luck in finding some boxes you love and again, welcome to MSA. It’s an awesome place to be!
