Intro Cards

Each box comes with a tiny envelope with cards detailing some of the items you've received. This month, I only got three cards, so I'm displaying them below along side their items to make this review easier to read.

Surf Durt

Travel Size Surf Durt, 1.5 oz – Retail Value $12

Finally, warmer weather is here– and lots of days playing in the sandbox have come with it. I'm always thankful to receive sunscreen in subscription boxes, because it's something I like to keep stashed in a few places around the house, plus in the car, in my bag, etc so we are always prepared!

Something for Mama

Something for Mama

Durf Durt is all-natural and reef-safe. Although we don't plan to go to the ocean this summer, I definitely appreciate that there are more natural and safe sunblock options on the market these days. Did you see that Hawaii recently banned certain sunblocks from their beaches?

Surf Durt

This mixture is SPF 30 and is a natural rust color from the included iron oxide pigment. This is a physical sunscreen and remains visible after application if you're doing it right (remember Zinka?), so it's not ideal for all-over application. But for a little extra protection on my nose and the apples of my cheeks, I'm game!

Surf Durt

This formula also smells amazing thanks to the cocoa butter. It feels really good on your skin, unlike my memories of the colored zinc stuff from the 80s. We haven't put it to a real pool-day test yet, but so far I like it.

Eco-friendly bug repellant

Bug Protector Tick Repellent, 2 oz – Retail Value $3.99

Bug Protector Mosquito Repellent, 2 oz – Retail Value $3.49

I've actually previously received this brand in a past Ecocentric Mom mystery box, and I love it! It was my go-to last summer. Bug Protector is a certified B Corp and their products are made with non-toxic, kid-and-dog-safe ingredients and are entirely DEET-free.

Something Practical

Something Practical

I'm especially happy Ecocentric Mom included both the Mosquito and Tick varieties because it's supposed to be another bad year for deer ticks in the northeastern United States. My dad loves to take my son on short hikes and I'm constantly paranoid about him picking up a tick or two, so I'm hoping keeping this in our toddler's go-bag will set my mind at ease a bit.

Eco-friendly bug repellant

The best part about this brand is that it smells really good, unlike the strong artificial smell of chemical based repellants or even plain citronella. We have found that it's effective for us, too (at least the mosquito blend – we haven't put the tick repellent to the test yet).

Eco-friendly bug repellant

And I love when brands included a coupon for a product I really like; I may have to use this for an extra bottle to keep at our in-laws' home as well.

Memory Matching Game

Sensory Match Game by Gift Genie Express – Retail Value $13.00

Memory Matching Game

This is such a cute and unexpected toy this month! This bag of small wooden circles is blank on one side and features a variety of textured and colored papers and fabrics on the other.

Something for Little Something for Little

They call this a Sensory Match Game but of course, I have many happy memories of playing memory card games– so that's how I introduced it to my son. We flipped them all over and worked as a team to try to find matching pairs.

He really really loved this! I was surprised because he's pretty active and doesn't always sit calmly at a table to do any task, even coloring books. But we played together for an hour after dinner one night and he asked for it again first thing in the morning. What a great reminder that sometimes the simplest toys are the best!

Baby Sun Hat

I Play Sun Protection Hat, size 2T - 4T – Retail Value $13

Oh my, how sweet is this white sun hat?

Baby Sun Hat

With UPF 50+ protection, this is a staple for parents who spend any amount of time out in the sun.

Baby Sun Hat

I love this cute felt star detail, too! This decorates a toggle that lets you snug the hat more tightly onto your child's head if needed.

Baby Sun Hat

I'm not sure if we'll actually get much mileage out of this yet or not; my son is a very opinionated 3 year old and I'm skeptical that he will actually keep this on his head. It's always worth a shot, though! And he hates getting sunscreen put on, so maybe if I can convince him that we'll need less sunscreen if he wears it, he'll be game.

Baby Sun Hat

At any rate, it's a nice simple design, and I especially like the mesh lining in the top of the hat and uncomplicated ties.

Jessie's Nutty Cups

Jessie's Nutty Cups with Dark Sea Salt – Estimated Value $4

Ending this review on a high note: these peanut butter cups were SO. GOOD.

Jessie's Nutty Cups

I like my peanut butter cups with a lot of chocolate, and these really delivered. The filling was creamy and not chalky, like some peanut butter cups can be.

Jessie's Nutty Cups

Do I see the words "Monthly Subscriptions" on this postcard? 😍They appear to offer sets of 8 or 16+ cups, with peanut butter or almond butter filling, and a ton of unique varieties. (Nutty PB&J Cup? Yes please!)

Jessie's Nutty Cups

I wish I'd have thought to hand this card off to my husband in advance of Mother's Day as a hint for what kind of gift he could get me, but alas, I think I'm on my own to pick up more of these in the future.

Sweet Dreams Moonbeams book

Sweet Dreams Moonbeams by Sara Conway and Kelly Breemer – Retail Value $7.99 (currently out of stock)

In our house, you really can't go wrong with a new book.

Sweet Dreams Moonbeams book

This is a simple bedtime story that follows various animal families as they get ready to go to sleep for the night:

Sweet Dreams Moonbeams book Sweet Dreams Moonbeams book

We're starting to get out of the board book phase and more into picture books, but my son really enjoyed this. The illustrations were beautiful, and there were some new animals in this book that he'd never seen before, too.

Verdict: My April  Ecocentric Mom Box had an overall value of $57.47, which is nearly $25 over the price of the box! I received some brands this month that I really love (like Bug Protector!), plus a toy and book that are sure to get frequent use as well. In general, I find that I use and enjoy many of the brands I've discovered in this subscription, and my son looks forward to the little treats they send just for him, too.
