Bookroo is a subscription service that sends books for children every month. They have a board book plan (for ages 0-2.5), a picture book plan (for ages 2.5-6) and a chapter book plan (for ages 7-10). They offer the option to alternate between picture and board books each month which is great if you have children in different age groups like I do.

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Picture Book, $19.95 a month, box.

Bookroo May 2018 Review

Look at this beautiful wrapping paper! This is definitely my favorite paper that we’ve ever received. So summery and fun!

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of each book and also includes a link for some extension activities. This month they suggested that we make a party hat like Puppy’s or go for a walk and count the cars in our neighborhood. The extension activities are cute and easy to do and really help take the books a step further which is nice!

Little Friends: Happy Birthday: A Touch and Feel Book by Sarah Powell - Retail Value $6.99

This book is about an adorable little puppy who is celebrating his birthday. I really love the color scheme of this book with the muted colors and pastels. It’s really pretty to me and very different from most board books that are filled with bright, vibrant colors. The book is also filled with different patterns throughout.

The best part of this book is that it is a touch and feel book, as you can see from the little ribbons on the end of his party hat and the corrugated cardboard piece in the middle of his cake. This makes it fun for kids as they get to explore all of the different textures on the pages.

A Traffic Jam of Trucks: A Clever Colors Book

A Traffic Jam of Trucks: A Clever Colors Book by Emma Jennings, Robyn Newton & Kate Ward Retail Value $8.99

My son really loves this book! He loves cars and trucks and any vehicles really, so this was a perfect selection for him. Each page features a different vehicle and then a group of vehicles. The colors of each vehicle are noted and the illustrations are bright and colorful. I really love that each of the drivers and passengers in the vehicles are animals that my son loved looking at and naming.

The first page features the vehicle cut out and placed on top of the page, while the next page actually has a section cut out and removed. The result is a tactile experience on every page with some vehicles creating a bump and others creating a deeper space for them to explore with their little fingers. This book was really unique and exciting for my son.

The Nice Book by David Ezra Stein

The Nice Book by David Ezra Stein - Retail Value $6.99

This book was just like a mini book of life lessons for kids. It was not a predictable book at all, but instead, sort of jumped around in order to maintain a rhyming pattern. This was a great way to introduce the topic of some basic manners and rules for how we should treat one another.

The message in this book was great and they approached it in a silly way that was fun for us to read together. The colors and illustrations were very simple, but still appealing as they were bright and featured lots of different animals.

Verdict: I really loved this month’s Bookroo board book box! The presentation was great as usual with the beautiful paper and elastic ribbon tying them together. I thought all the books were really unique and two of them provided great tactile experiences for little hands. I love that the third book also taught some basic manners in a fun way. Overall, a great mix!

The retail value of the books was $22.97 which is just shy of the $24.95 box ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping). The great books we received this month definitely made up for that, and since I am on the alternating plan and usually get a lot more value during the month’s I receive picture books, I think that it all balances out for me value-wise.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
